It takes great team effort…

The Guildford team want you to know, you’re important, and they reallyappreciate your patience during construction. The main team breaks into sub-teams, each with their own set of priorities, such as the housekeeping team. Added duties mean this team is on-site by5am, working diligently to clear construction dust and debris from glass, floors, escalators and storefronts, assisting affected retailers, and polishing the centreback to a sparkling finish by 10am when shoppers arrive.Guildford’s security team is diligent about safety, demonstrating approved first aid practices, and maintaining control of a very active construction site. This teamensures only authorized workers are on-site, and if a retailer is affected byconstruction and the store has to be accessed, the security team oversees the work, giving retailers extra peace of mind.Guildford’s customer service and management teams do routine walks checking for clarity of signage, answering questions and addressing concerns, as well asbeing pro-active regarding any potential problems. The Guildford team – working together to give you a great shopping experience, with or without construction. community initiatives

message from the Guildford teamconstruction update

We’re offi cially smoke-free!On Friday, June 1, our new Smoke-Free policy came into effect.Smoking is no longer permitted on shopping centre property.

Q: Why have you decided to make Guildford Town Centre completely smoke-free?

A: Once the redevelopment is complete, visitors to the centre will increase to 16-million a year. Surveys tell us the majority of these customers are non smokers.

Q: Smokers are customers, too. Don’t they have rights?

A: We respect our customers’ choice to choose their lifestyle, however, we’re committed to providing a healthy environment for all our shoppers, a good percentage who are under the age of 18. It’s our responsibility to maintain a safe shopping experience for all, especially the children.

Q: How will you enforce these new rules?

A: Highly visible signage will be posted, and the Guildford Town Centre security team will monitor the property. Smokers will politely be asked to refrain from smoking while on the property. We know it’s an educational process, but we see this as a positive adjustment and we thank you for your support.

Dana Buchart, LedcorWhenever a significant redevelop-ment takes place, there are always a variety of challenges to overcome.

That’s why Ivanhoé Cambridge chose the experience of The Ledcor Group of Companies to head up the project for Guildford Town Centre.Ledcor’s construction manager Dana Buchart saidpeople may not know this, but because his crew can’t work inside the shopping centre during store hours, there’s plenty of nightlife in the centre.“It’s kind of like Disney. You don’t see what happens at night, but an army of people are engaged,” said Dana. “If you tour the mall between 9pm and 5am, you would observe areas sealed off and the centre transformed into a full-on construction site with up to 90 crewmembers. It’s amazing, working together with theGuildford team, it’s pretty much all cleaned up by 7am for the mall walkers.”The greatest challenge overall? Reconstructing exterior and access routes that were ingrained in the minds of shoppers.“We suddenly removed acres of parking. All the ways

people were used to getting to the centre, were shut off by fencing.” said Dana.Once customers were comfortable with the changes, Ledcor staff noticed - they were being observed.“We first noticed moms showing up with kids watching outside in the public safety area. Others followed. The construction actually seemed to draw in thecommunity as people became involved in the cultureof the construction site.” Even BC rain hasn’t slowed progress.“You can already begin to see the transformation. It’s going to be bright, brand new and the finestlooking shopping centre in the Lower Mainland!”

housekeeping team vacuum 6.75 kilometres daily, or 4.42 miles. That’s the distance from the centre to Bear Creek Park at 88th and King George Highway.

What you can expect...We’re committed to keeping you updated on changes in and around the shopping centre due to construction. We’re pleased with the progress, but we still have a long way to go, and some tough projects are coming up that will hinder visibility and move traffic flow around the shopping centre. A lot of thought and preparation go into the decisions we make and your safety, convenience and comfort are top of mind. And we promise, it will all be well worth the wait.Coming up:

The escalators by London Drugs and Ben Moss are being replaced with new equipment. These escalators are old and tired so we retired them onMay 28, and by November, new escalators will be operational. In October 2011, we installed two additional sets of escalators and a new elevator. This improved our movement between floors, and we hope you get a chance to try our new “vertical transportation” soon. You can still move easily between shopping centre levels by using:

Renovations for Centre Court are now underway, and by November,we’ll be enjoying all the changes. For this project, a large scaffold similar to what you have recently seenin the centre, will be installed in three stages starting near The Bay.
