Our May meeting was hosted by Ruthie Kennedy, Nina Revon and Rosemary Tournillion who nicely decorated the tables with live plants in gift bags which served as door prizes. Guests for May were Libby Roland, Melissa Warren and David D’Aquilla, who gave members an update on the progress of Jones Park construction and the future phases planned. There were project displays and each member was given a handout showing projects planned which included an Amphitheater, Play Space, Splash Pad Play Fountain, Maritime‐Themed Play Equipment, Custom Pavillion and other design plans. June’s Luncheon was hosted by Sherry Trullender, Joedna Fagan, and Mary Anne Barkley who decorated the tables with plants and Cedar dolphins sculptures from the Gulfport Galleria. Entertainment for June was provided by the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center’s Jr. High Musical Summer Camp’s production of “Aristocats Kids.” This camp represented one of many summer camps available for Kindergarten through High School under the direction of Claudia Appel at the Lynn
Meadow’s Center. Invited guests included members of the Biloxi Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary, Sue Murry, Program Vice President Janice Diaz, Mary Bowles, Glenna Jerrod and Anne Ashleigh. July sure arrived fast! I hope you are enjoying your summer and getting to spend some quality time at the GYC. The 4th of July is upon us, and we’re planning on a great party at the Club. We’ll have games for the kids and
plenty of entertainment for the adults. Come down early, enjoy yourself and top off the night with the City’s fireworks. We still have about 22 slips available for boats of various sizes. If you’re interested, please contact our Docks and Piers chair, Gary Robinson. The swim team is having another great year, and by the time you read this we’re hoping the GYC will once again have brought home the swim team championship. Thanks to Christine O’Bannon for her great work with the kids. Also, sailing camps are in full swing, and Sam Vasquez is once again doing a super job with the juniors. As an added bonus, Christine and Sam even brought the President to the Coast Guard station so the kids could see a real presidential motorcade!
Keep in mind that the GYC is hosting the Junior Liptons the last weekend in July. This will be a good opportunity to show off our Club, and to see some great sailing, so mark that weekend on your calendars. The Power Boat Committee is planning another Ship Island Rendezvous for July 17. The last one was so successful, with over 150 people at the island, that it will be hard to beat! Plan on coming out and enjoying burgers and beverages. The Governing Board has approved a house committee recommendation that children be allowed in the Chart Room during all dining hours, provided they are seated at a table with an adult. Members, please make sure these guidelines are followed. Please keep in mind that we continue to look for prospective members and we need your help. If you know someone who may be interested in the Club, bring them down as a guest and show them what the GYC has to offer. If they are interested in joining, you can obtain a membership application for them from the office and, once it is completed, turn it back in at the office. See you at the club, Marty Warren, Commodore

SAILING NEWS
Save the Dates! Memorial Hospital Jr Regatta ‐ July 15‐16 (Thursday & Friday) Over 115 junior sailors sailed last year’s races with 70 of them racing for the first time in a regatta. All campers are invited to sail in the regatta. If your child will like to race, YOU MUST email me at [email protected] with the sailors name and what boat they would like to race. Sailing Camp The first session was a blast. It was a three great weeks of fun in the sun. 55 sailors filled the boats and facing a variety of the elements, from the scorching sun to the thunder bumping squalls. The camp started with the swim test and finished with racing and roll tacks. Tom Landrum graciously donated reusable water bottles for the campers to keep hydrated and keep the plastic bottles off the shores. Tom, thank you once again. Session 2 Session Two has started and we are off to a good start! We will not have camp the week of June 28‐July 2. Camp will start back up Tuesday July 6. 2010 Sailing Banquet ‐ August 2 (Tuesday) All campers and family are invited to come celebrate the accomplishments of all the junior sailors. It is a formal yachting attire event (blazers for the men and dresses for the ladies). Chapman Regatta Pass Christian Yacht Club held their annual regatta on May 22‐23. It is a team race between the MCYA clubs (each club shall send three boats for four races and a different skipper for each boat each race,
totaling 12 skippers!. Bay Waveland, Pass Christian, and Biloxi made up the twelve boat fleet. GYC sailed with a predominantly junior skippers. GYC finished 3rd overall but, just a few points out of 2nd. We will get them next year.
Capdevielle Updates Spring Regatta ‐ Buccaneer Yacht Club Sam Hopkins, Sam Hopkins Jr, Jacob Seicshnaydre, John Watson Galloway, Hugh Hawkins, and Ana Gayle Christian competed against 12 other clubs in the two day regatta on Mobile Bay. Light and fluky were some of the words used to describe the racing. They were able to keep their composure through the tricky conditions and finished 2nd Overall! Candler Regatta ‐ St Andrew Bay Yacht Club Claire Yoste, Sam Vasquez, and Ana Gayle Christian headed over to Panama City to try and improve their last years score of 3rd Overall. It was a test of endurance for the team to man‐up and sail all five races in the big breeze. The girls showed dedication and confidence in their game and were able to hang in the breeze and chop. After all was done and 6 blisters, GYC accomplished the goal and took 2nd Overall!
