•BAPTISMS / BAUTIZOS/ BATTESIMO Baptism are celebrated once a month on a Sunday after the 12:30 Mass in Spanish and 2:00pm in English. The dates for the Baptism of children and for the Pre-Baptismal instruction of parents should be arranged in the rectory ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE. In addition to English, and Spanish this Sacrament may also be in Italian.

•WEDDINGS/ MATRIMONIO Pre–marital instruction is a requirement for all engaged couples. Consequently, arrangements for weddings should be made SIX MONTHS in advance.

“Jesus said to his disciples ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.’” Jesus,

the teacher, offers three parables today for our reflection. The two the treasure and the pearl, followed by the net, ask us to consider what the kingdom is really like. Do I find it in my church? What is the treasure I am looking for, His kingdom? It is His grace, the Sacraments, the life of the church. The pearl is the Christian life which I sometimes fail to appreciate. I am the one searching for a treasure, the pearl and I live in a community where the net has been thrown and collects all, bad and good. I am asked to sit down and sort out what is good for me and what is not. I resolve to continue my search, discover the treasure offered to me, and work hard to preserve and persevere in my quest. The kingdom is now.

“Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: ‘El Reino de los Cielos se parece a un tesoro escondido en un campo; un hombre lo encuentra, lo vuelve a esconder, y lleno de alegría, vende todo lo que posee y compra el campo. El Reino de los Cielos se parece también a un negociante que se dedicaba a buscar perlas finas; y al encontrar una de gran valor, fue a vender todo lo que tenía y la compró. El Reino de los Cielos se parece también a una red que se echa al mar y recoge toda clase de peces.” Jesús, el maestro, nos ofrece tres parábolas hoy para nuestra reflexión. La del tesoro y la de la perla, seguidas por la de la red, nos hacen considerar cómo será el reino realmente. ¿Lo encuentro en mi iglesia? ¿Cuál es el tesoro que busco? ¿Su reino? Es Su gracia, los sacramentos, la vida de la iglesia. La perla es la vida cristiana que a veces olvido apreciar. Soy yo el que busca un tesoro, la perla, y vivo en una comunidad en donde la red ha sido echada y recoje todo, lo bueno y lo malo. Se me pide que me siente y decida qué es bueno y qué no. Decido continuar mi búsqueda, descubrir el tesoro que se me ofrece, y trabajar duro para preservarlo y perseverar en mi búsqueda. El reino es ahora.

“San Tommaso d’Aquino, il grande teologo del Medioevo, utilizza un’immagine: noi uomini siamo come una freccia già in piena corsa. Un altro ha preso la mira e ha tirato. Non spetta più a noi cercare un obiettivo: è già stabilito. E dove va questa freccia di cui il Creatore ha stabilito l’obiettivo? “ Ecco la risposta: la freccia corre verso il bene, e dunque

verso la felicità. Dio, e la felicità di essere presso di lui, corrispondono alla più profonda aspirazione dell’uomo. Qui non vi è nulla di imposto, nessun compito da fare come penso, nessun passaggio a gincana, non dobbiamo stringere i denti. Come il ruscello scorre naturalmente verso il mare, così l’uomo è in cammino verso. Questo insegnamento sugli uomini si trova nella parabola di Gesù che ci presenta il Vangelo. È riassunto in sette righe di una semplicità geniale. Il Regno dei cieli è proprio ciò che si cerca nel profondo del cuore. È come un tesoro di cui si scopre l’esistenza. È come una perla, la perla delle perle che il mercante ha cercato per tutta la sua vita. Se il mercante raggiunge il suo obiettivo, non è grazie alla sua tenacia, ma perché ciò gli è concesso in dono. Tuttavia il regno dei cieli non ci è tirato in testa. Bisogna impegnarsi personalmente, essere pronti anche a sacrificare tutto. Ma non per una cosa estranea. È ciò che abbiamo di più personale, e al tempo stesso un dono. E bisogna saper cogliere questo dono; bisogna essere pronti. Quando si raggiunge l’obiettivo, non bisogna crollare come dopo un eccesso di sforzo, ma esultare di indescrivibile gioia.Il segreto del cristianesimo può essere espresso in un’immagine di sette righe. Ce ne vogliono un po’ di più ai predicatori! Quanto a ciascuno di noi, ci vuole tutta una vita per capirlo. .

THE 2017 CARDINAL’S APPEAL!

At present we have not reached the Appeal Goal of $58,000 that was assessed

for our parish. The total that has been pledged at this time is $41,612. It is requested that if a family has not pledged or contributed, that they

consider doing so. We are called to assist our brothers and sisters in need as well as to assist in the education of our youth and in caring for our

retired Religious Sisters and Brothers. Our prayers and financial assistance to our

Seminarians should also gain our attention. Let us all consider a financial contribution in order that we may lessen the burdens of those who are in need.

FATHER GREGORY

The parish is grateful to Father Gregory for being

with us this July. This Sunday Father leaves us and eventually will

return to Rome after visiting relatives in Pennsylvania. We wish Father well and pray for his continued success in his studies in Rome. It is our hole that he will be with us again next summer.
