With a gift in your Will, called a bequest, you can give a percentage of your estate or

a certain amount of cash, securities or property to the Church. There are two key benefits to setting up a gift through a will.

- You can be flexible in your commitment. Most people don’t know what the exact size of their estate will be, so making a gift to the church using a percentage can be a more appropriate way to divide your assets. It enables you to serve the Lord and

at the same time benefit your loved ones in a relative proportion. - You have the ability to update or revoke your gift at any time.

Because you retain your assets, you don’t need to worry that your own needs, and those of your family, won’t be met. It allows you to benefit from your generosity

with out any concerns about living expenses, future medical costs and loved ones.

For more information about planned giving, contact Fr. Kendal at 334-2193.

July 29 Rev. Arockiam Arockiam, SVD July 30 Rev. Justin Arackiasamy, SVD July 31 Rev. Herbert Bennerfield Aug. 1 Pope Francis Aug. 2 Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI Aug. 3 Bishop Michael Jarrell Aug. 4 Rev. Lloyd Benoit

“Lord, teach us to pray…” Prayer has always been part of the Christian heritage. The book of Psalms long ago became the prayer book of

the church, along with some hymns and canticles from other books of the Bible, both Old and New Testaments. Among the most beautiful prayers we have are the Magnificat of Mary, the Benedictus of

Zechariah, and the Nunc Dimittis of Simeon, all in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 1:46–55; 1:68–79; 2:29–32). Most importantly, Jesus prayed. Think about that for a moment. Jesus, the Son of God, the Word made flesh, the only begotten Son, prayed. We know that he went off by himself to pray. He did this before some of the most important moments in his ministry, like before he chose those who would be with him. But it is safe to

assume that he did it as a habit. So when one of the disciples asked him to teach them to pray and Jesus responded with the Our Father, it

deserves our attention. This prayer reveals the heart of Jesus, and tells us how we should speak to the Father. The prayer has two parts: blessing the Father and calling for his presence in the world, then turning to God for

our basic needs of food, forgiveness, and fidelity. The parables that follow call us to persevere and persist in prayer because God is a Father who will give us his life-blood, in this case, the Holy Spirit, to all who ask. Continue to knock, continue to ask. God will respond.

Being A Martha God does not lead all souls by the same way. St. Martha was holy, though we are

never told she was a contemplative. Would you not be content with resembling this blessed woman who deserved to receive Christ Our Lord so often into her home, where she fed and served him, and where he ate at her table? Someone must cook the meals, so count yourselves happy in being able to serve like Martha. The humility consists in being willing and ready to do what our Lord asks of us. So if contemplation, mental and vocal prayer, nursing the sick, the work of the house, and the most menial labor

all serve this Guest, why should we choose to minister to him in one way rather than in another? St. Teresa of Avila
