By the time you are reading my letter, VBS will be over. However, as I am writing this, we have just finished our first day of VBS….and it has been a wonderful one! We had 88 adults and 140 children attend today for a total of 228 people. We have 96 adults enrolled and 153 children enrolled for a total of 249. We are picking up 13 children at two daycares. The halls are ringing with music, laughter, and learning! I wish that every member in our church could be here to witness this wonderful week! We have many different activities going on throughout the

week with the purpose of those activities being to guide the children into a growing relationship with Jesus. Our workers have worked countless hours to prepare for this week. From their classroom decorations to their activities…they have all outdone themselves. Our theme this year is “Bible Blast to the Past….Discovering God’s Everlasting Love!” Our Bible study is taking the children on an amazing time-travel journey to experience stories that show the INCREDIBLE, FAITHFUL, INVINCIBLE, UNCONDITIONAL, and REAL love of God. Children are learning they can count on God’s love because God IS love! Children’s lives will be changed, and they will be inspired to courageously change lives around them. Our Bible scripture is 1 John 4:16. “We know how much God loves us. God is love.” Each department is walking down to Martha’s Mission this week where the children are taking a tour of the facility, learning what goes on there, and delivering food that they have brought from home. The children are learning that they can be missionaries right here in Carteret County! The children have been asked to

bring food items that boys and girls would want to eat for breakfast and lunch. The food items that they bring will help feed the boys and girls who were on free breakfast and lunch while in school. Now that they are out of school for the summer, many of those children are going hungry. The mission is going to identify those children and provide these food items for them! We are so excited that the FBC Missions Council has joined with us during the month of June asking our church members to also donate food items that can be used to feed these children. Several of the children have expressed that they did not know we had people who were hungry right here in Morehead City! All of our offering collected is also being given to Martha’s Mission. It is such a blessing to work alongside our many talented volunteers for VBS. Whether you are working in VBS, praying for our VBS, providing cookies for everyone, or giving to the church so that our VBS can be funded, YOU are playing a very vital part in the success of our VBS!!! Thank you for being a part of such a special week in our church! Please continue to keep our VBS in your prayers! Seeds were planted this week that will last for a lifetime. Those seeds must be watered and fertilized to grow. Lives are being changed! God knows what is going on in each child’s heart! I am so proud to be a part of a church that supports Vacation Bible School. Churches around the country are canceling VBS because they cannot get enough volunteers to work. Churches in Morehead City are doing the same. If we do not invest in our young people, our church will be in serious trouble. Thank you, First Baptist, for being such a dedicated congregation for God!

In Christ, Diane Poag, VBS Director

Summer is here but our youth have not slowed down! This week they’ve been serving in VBS here at FBC and today we treated them to lunch at Bojangles as a way of saying “Thank you!” Tonight begins our PLUNGE events and we have five of these scheduled for the summer. We meet at someone’s pool, plunge into the water and food, then into the Word of God. This summer we are finishing up the study we began in May called MY8. This is a study on the call to share Christ with others and a means of preparing, equipping, and encouraging our students to do so. We’ll have two PLUNGES in July, on the 1 &15. Twenty of our youth will be doing a different summer camp thing this year. We’re heading to Ridgecrest near Black Mountain for CENTRIFUGE July 8-12. The theme for our week there is ALIVE AND FREE; and, we’ll be studying selections from the book of James. Please be in prayer for our youth and their chaperones as they travel, play, study, and worship God together. The other big thing happening in July is our Brazil Mission Trip. We have seven youth and two college students making up a part of the thirty-member team, along with many of their parents. Please be in prayer for them: Emory Knight and Christian, Lainey Nicholson and Kim, Sarah Swain and Annie, Josh Mason and Sally, Alex and Nathan Lewis and Jennifer and Jon, and Rees Waugh. College students are Kelly Mansfield, and Nicholas Green and Cathy and Joe. I will also be going and am so excited about spending this time with our students on mission in Delta, Brazil. God has provided in an amazing way for all of us to go; and, we give all the glory to Him! While we are away in Brazil the rest of the youth and their families are invited to go to the Water Boggan water slide at Emerald Isle on Sunday afternoon, July 26 for water fun and supper together. We’ll send out details for that event as it comes together. In the busyness of summer and the freedom from your normal schedule, please remember that God does not go on vacation and we should not neglect the study of His Word and worship here together at First Baptist. Sunday School is still happening at 9:45am on Sunday mornings and worship is at 8:30am and 11am. God is worthy of our worship, of our time and praise and adoration because He IS GOD and He has done so much for us! Hebrews 10:25 says, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” So before you set out to spend time with family and friends and enjoy God’s beautiful creation here on the Crystal Coast, make time each week to come together for Bible study and worship with the body of Christ. God will be honored, and you will be blessed!

(Miss Deb)

We ended our year of JOY-Makers Choir with two wonderful concerts at Crystal Bluff and Brookdale, followed by a luncheon at the Spouters Inn.

We’ve had a good year, added some new members, and already have a prospective member for this fall. It has been a blessing to work with these folks this year. We are taking the summer off and will resume rehearsals in September.

On Wednesday, July 15 there is a Gospel concert in the FLC (see page 1). All are invited to come out and enjoy this time of fellowship and worship.

Summertime is cookout time and we’re having one Tuesday, August 11. Peggy McQueen is opening her home to us, 141 Camp Morehead Drive, and we’ll enjoy some good old-fashioned hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixin’s. Come on out around 4:30pm and we’ll eat at 5:00pm. You’ll enjoy the beautiful view of Bogue Sound from her porch and hopefully a cool breeze, plus some wonderful fellowship! Sign up on Deborah’s bulletin board.
