DONUT SALES This month, we will be selling donuts on

October 17th. We need 12 members helping with handing

out donuts. We need 12 adults helping at all stations.

Please ask your parents to come help. Please contact Ms. Thiers or Ms.Cohorst

There will be a sign-up sheet at the end of the meeting.

This will count as 1 hour for your service hours. Please be here by 8:30.

TUTORING WE NEED MORE 8TH GRADE TUTORS!! We will continue with Jr. Beta tutoring.

All members helping with tutoring, please be here by 8:00.

There will be a new sign up sheet every month.

If you have any question, please see Alex (homeroom – Burrell) or Ms. Thiers.

Next day for tutoring will be Tuesday, October 9th.

CAMP CREEK TUTORING There is now a limit of 8 students

signing up every month to reduce the number of students on the bus.

The next date will be on October 11th at 8:00.

You must have a signed parent permission form to go.

If you have any questions ask Ms. Thiers or Ms. Cohorst

T-SHIRT ORDER FORMS

If you forgot to purchase a T-shirt for Jr. Beta... We are collecting another round of order forms.

Mrs.Cohorst will be taking up the forms and the money, she is on the 7th grade hallway.

If you need an order form, they are on Ms. Thiers’ website. The cost is still $15.00.

The deadline for the order forms is October 19th.

SERVICE HOURS Keep on volunteering! You can earn service hours by helping

with donut sales and tutoring. Also please make sure that you aren’t

counting Campus Life or Thrive as service hours.

You can turn them in at every/any meeting.

WINNERS FROM THE SEPTEMBER MEETING

As you remember, we had a little contest to see if you had been paying attention to the book Wonder.

RANDOM ACTS Please keep turning in the Random Act

cards to stick on the bulletin board. Keep doing your random acts of

kindness.

You can turn them in to either Alayna (homeroom – Yates) or Ms. Thiers.

WRISTBANDS To celebrate August’s birthday this

year, which is on October 10th, we are giving each teacher a package with a note. The note says “To celebrate August’s birthday, Jr. Beta would like you to give this to one student who has chosen kindness.”

We want to spread August’s message to the school.

The wristband will be blue and have the words Choose Kindness on them .

UNITED WAY BRACELETS United Way student campaign is from Oct 9 -

Oct 31. We will be selling colorful yarn bracelets

made by Threads of Hope. We will be selling in the homerooms on each

grade level. 9 Volunteers needed per day. Each day of volunteering counts for 1/2 of a

service hour. Arrive at school at 8:45 and report to MS.

Smith in the 7th grade B stairwell by 8:55.

Elementary Schools: Damages

Lake Pontchartrain Elementary had minor roof damage and suffered approximately 18” of flooding.

LaPlace Elementary School had minor roof damage that allowed water to enter and damage ceiling tiles in approximately 7 rooms including the Principal’s office and library.

East St. John High School:Damages

East St John High School had approximately 12” of flooding and had minor roof damage.

All drywall, doors, flooring, and majority of furniture were damaged by flooding

Mold growth was present in all buildings Roof flew off the softball field dugout Softball field foul ball poles were leaning Baseball batting cage was damaged

Assessment of Damages

District wide damage assessed at approximately 23 million dollars

Students were not able to return to East St John High School and are now attending a different high school for half days (split schedule). Students will return second semester.

Many of the elementary schools were closed without power for over a week.

Construction was estimated to be completed in 4 weeks
