Florida Couple, 4 Children Lost In Plane Plunge " NEWORLEANS (UPI) - A plane carrying six members of a Florida family attempting to. land in a light haze crashed into Lake Ponchartrain Wednesday night. The Coast Guard said today there were no signs of survivors. Bill Odom, the assistant controller at the Coast Guard's Rescue Center, said the six persons on board the plane were a man. his wife and four children from Fort Lauderdale. Fla. Odom said he could not release the identity of the family. Odom said the control tower at the Lakefront Airport had not been in direct communica- tion with the private plane but it did monitor its last radio message broadcast, when the plane was 4 1 -- miles from the shore of the 18-mile-wide. 30- mile-long lake. "Mayday! Mayday! Am over the water and about to splash," .the pilot radioed in his final message. At that moment the plane disappeared from the control tower's radar screens. Audio Speakers Taken At Clarion Area School Shippenville - based state police report they are in- vestigating the theft of two 12- inch audio speakers from a platform inside the auditorium of the Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School. The theft was believed to have occurred between April 10 and 17. Troopers ask anyone with information relative to the incident to contact them. Pressed for Answer PITTSBURGH (UPI) City Council said Wednesday it wants the West Penn Water Co." to provide it with a report on what the company is doing about an Environmental Pro- tection Agency study which showed small amounts of cancer producing chemicals' within its system. Councilman William Coyne said there was no need to panic since the water is safe to drink. The EPA report was based on a study of nearly 80 cities across the country. Week's Celebration Next for Ford City FORD CITY — A week-long celebration, June 16-21, is the next evjnt being planned by the Ford City Bicentennial com- mittee. During a meeting held last night in the Ford City VFW Home, chairman William Moore said he hoped something could be planned for every day of the week. A carnival will be in Ford City the entire week. There will be three parades during the week. There will be a parade for junior division groups on Monday.-,,;a .senior .division'' ! para'de""oh'AVedhesday \~ and' 'a children's pet parade on Saturday. Kittanning concert band will present a program on Thursday. There will be fireworks on. Saturday night. Ed Kornasiewicz and his "nationality committee" are planning an event to take place next Fall. American heritage chairman Frank Tolliver asked that anyone having pictures, paintings, artifacts of early American history to contact him. He would like to borrow the items for use in a public display. Tolliver said Indian scenes are particularly desirable. The group's first venture, a reenactment of Paul Revere's ride last Friday at midnight, was considered a success. It was estimated that over 2,000 people witnessed the event. Chairman Moore said that he has not had notification yet in regard to an application filed by the committee to designate Ford City area an official bicentennial community.
