• Adults with profiles on social media platform up from 8 percent to 35 percent

• Adults are a larger percentage of US population than teens

• So there are more adults on social media platforms than teens

UMass Dartmouth study

• Largest nonprofits have outpaced corporations and academic institutions in adoption of social media

• 89 percent of charitable organizations using SM in some form

• 90 percent of charities say blogs are a great tool

• 80 percent say its important to future strategy

So what does that mean for you?

• If you are currently using social media, then you are in good company but are you using it effectively?

• If you are not, then you are faced with a decision to either let others have the competitive advantage or to begin learning and engaging

• Encourage them to be “ambassadors”

• Engage with and educate new audiences

Things to consider

• Do research to determine strategy and platforms

• Social media should flow from a broader communications strategy

• Should start from senior level• Social media should not replace

other forms of marketing• It is not expensive, but it does take

time
