I want to join the DLA!
YES!
Joining the DLA not only keeps you in the loop with the most recent news and events, but gives you the opportunity to vote on important decisions like how to spend our funds to help the lake. In the coming year we will be exploring some options for projects to help improve our water quality, and we need your opinions and your votes! 100% of your dues go into the association, paying for things that improve the lake, such as the annual spring cleanup. They also help pay for our methods of communication, sharing lake association news and helping to educate our community about best practices to protect our water quality. Membership is just $20.00 per household per year, and your dues are completely tax deductible! You can now choose to save a stamp and register instantly online! Simply visit www.DutchLakeAssociation.com and click on “Join” to start the process. If you prefer snail mail, you can mail in the form below with a check. THANK YOU for your interest in supporting the health and beauty of Dutch Lake!!
Two types of water leave your home. One is waste water, which is water that goes down drains in sinks, toilets, and showers.
Waste water gets treated at wastewater treatment facilities. Trash, bacteria and other pollutants are removed, and the water is purified and released.
The second type of water that leaves your home is stormwater runoff. Runoff is rain that’s fallen on rooftops, driveways, and sidewalks. It can’t soak into the ground, so it runs off the surface. Runoff does NOT get treated. Instead, it flows to the nearest storm drain. Storm drains typically drain to a nearby lake, river, or stormwater pond. To protect lakes and rivers from pollutants, we must
also protect these storm drains. It’s very important that only rain goes down the drain. It is illegal to dump anything else down these storm drains. Any pollutants dumped down the drain pollute lakes and rivers and risk harm to public health and wildlife. The following actions protect lakes and rivers.
Fall is a particularly important time for protecting storm drains. Leaves, grass clippings and debris that builds up along curbs and storm drains all contain phosphorus. Too much phosphorus in a lake causes algae blooms and reduces oxygen in the water. Leaves and grass clippings that get into lakes and rivers via storm drains add to next year’s summer algae blooms. Multiple lakes in Carver County has significant algae blooms this
past summer including Benton, Swede, McKnight, Jonathan and Benton. Just one yard waste bag of leaves has enough phosphorus to create 100 lbs. of algae in water.
As you prep your yard, home and garage for the next season, take these actions to protect storm drains and so protect your lakes and rivers.

DLAEVENTSMark your Calendar for our Annual
Spring Cleanup!Every spring a group of our wonderful and dedicated Dutch Lake residents donate a few hours of their time to help clean up our lake. Every year we seem to pull less out of the lake, so we know we are making a big impact! We hope that you will mark your calendars for the morning of Saturday, May 11th and join us! This year we will even award a traveling trophy for the
most unique “treasure” pulled out of the lake! And, as always, we will feed you lunch! Thank you in advance for your generous gift of your time!
