Another big hello from all of us here at school. It is very strange that we have worked so hard over several years to have a strong connection among parents and staff to support our children and yet we don’t get to see many of you during the afternoon pick-ups at the moment. We are certainly thinking of all of our families constantly.
DROP OFFS IN THE MORNINGS
You may have noticed that our staff are moving a little further back into the playground from the drop off point. This is to further help our students work on being brave and resilient. Little steps forward for some of our students still. Staff will be on duty in the mornings in the central courtyard but will still keep an eye out for those who still need a little help.
AFTERNOON PICKUPS
Please keep to the staggered 2.45pm (RED and BLUE) and 3.00pm (YELLOW and GREEN) pick up times. Some of our parents in the second pick up time are arriving a little early increasing congestion. We are noticing this on wet days particularly.
LEARNING AND SUPPORT GROUP LESSONS
We are back in full swing with our extra support groups being provided substantial differentiated lesson support in literacy and numeracy. These groups are coordinated by Mrs Cady and implemented by her and our wonderful group of professional teachers’ aides. Your commitment to our students is outstanding Mrs Cady.
HEALTH CARE PLANS
As a legislative and a LCPS personal care requirement, student Health Care Plans are updated at least once per year. Some plans, where students have significant health care support needs, are updated several times each year. It is vital that up to date medical information is in the plan as they are communicated to all staff including teachers, teachers’ aides and office staff for implementation. Asthma Action Plans are required from a medical practitioner for any child who has a diagnosed asthma condition.
ATTENDANCE FACT
Interesting to note that 90% attendance on average from Kindergarten to Year 9 equals one whole year away from school. Just food for thought.
FROM THE SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT
“As a result of the updated health advice and relaxed restrictions, I am pleased to let you know that schools are able to recommence the majority of school-based activities from either 15 June 2020 or the start of Term 3 (20 July 2020). We have updated the attached Return to full-time face-to-face learning guidelines to assist schools to understand which activities can resume and when, and which are still under review. We do anticipate further relaxing of restrictions over the coming weeks and as soon as possible we will communicate any changes to you.
It is however important not to become complacent. All activities on school sites must occur in line with existing infection control procedures and the additional health, safety and distancing requirements outlined in the AHPPC Guidelines or in NSW Health advice, particularly as they relate to adults. Non-essential visitors are still not allowed on site or at events – this includes parents/carers.”
SOME EASING OF RESTRICTIONS FOR LAKE CATHIE PUBLIC SCHOOL
From Monday, 15 June the following will be permitted:
• Incursions/external providers relating to curriculum eg Healthy Harold
• Some activities which involve students visiting other schools
• Some community use activities
• From Term 3, schools can resume the following:
• All school sport and activities including competition aligned with current health advice
• Dance, Choir and Band sessions
• Inter-school student events and competitions
• Incursions/external providers not already permitted involving external adult providers
• SRE/SEE volunteers (Scripture and Ethics)
• Work experience for students

In line with health advice, schools are operating full time, and many additional activities are now able to recommence All schools have returned to full-time on-campus learning. With updated health advice and changes to state and national restrictions, schools are able to recommence the majority of school-based activities from either 15 June 2020 or the start of Term 3 (20 July 2020). Some activities are continuing to be considered.
The following principles underpin these guidelines:
• schools continue to be safe and operations are in line with Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and NSW Health guidelines
• existing infection control protocols at schools, and new health and safety measures put in place will help maintain the health and safety of students and staff
• all activities permitted at school are safe and appropriate in a living with COVID-19 environment.
School students do not need to follow strict adult physical distancing guidelines, but should follow good hygiene practices like:
• regularly washing hands• avoiding sharing drinks or food• coughing or sneezing into your elbow, or a
tissue which should be discarded immediately• filling water bottles from bubblers rather than
using the bubbler directly.
School attendance
All students should be at school unless:
• they have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition and the expected timeframe
• they are currently unwell.
School activities/school site usage
The majority of school-based activities can recommence, as long as the following measures are observed:
• all visitors and external to school providers must adhere to relevant hygiene, distancing and safety protocols
• principals may continue to restrict, limit or prohibit activities if they are seen as contrary to the current health advice
• external providers and visitors are required to demonstrate compliance with health and safety requirements including adhering to strict guidelines and completing relevant forms
• non-essential adults are still not permitted on school grounds or at school events – this includes parents/carers unless specifically approved by the principal.
Physical distancing
Physical distancing of children in schools is not required under the Australian HPPC guidelines. Research has shown limited transmission risk associated with school children in the school environment.
All adults must maintain physical distance from each other (1.5m) including teachers and support staff, and parents.Schools should ensure school pick up and drop off arrangements enable parents to physically distance from one another and from staff.
School cleaning and hygiene supplies
Your school will continue to receive additional cleaning in line with the AHPPC guidelines and advice from NSW Health. Target areas include high-touch areas and other hard surfaces, door handles, lockers, light switches and handrails in stairways and movement areas. There will also be additional cleaning of toilets and bubblers and topping up of supplies like soap.Your school has received supplies of soap, hand sanitiser, toilet paper, paper towels, disinfectant wipes and personal protective equipment. The school is able to order more as needed.

Changes to the opportunity class placement process for 2020 Year 4 studentsThe 2021 Year 5 opportunity class placement process was put on hold in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation.
We now have a revised and simplified timeline for the OC placement process to ensure that students and families can have certainty about their placement as soon as possible.
The changes include:
A new date for online applications. Parents must apply between 9 June 2020 and 26 June 2020. Late applications cannot be accepted.
A new test date - Wednesday 16 September 2020.
To ensure fair and consistent assessment of students across New South Wales, students will be offered places based only on their test results this year – there will be no school assessment scores.
There will also be no opportunity for appeals given the tight timeframes.

LIBRARYNational Simultaneous Storytime
Each year the Australian Library and Information Association holds National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) where a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
On Wednesday 27 May 2020 LCPS joined over 1 million students to head into the world of Whitney and Britney the Chicken Divas! Students enjoyed reading the story and participating in some fun activities.

President’s Report
● Welcome to term 3 and what a different way of life. I hope all our families of Lake Cathie Public School have survived these testing times of working from home, home schooling and self isolation. On behalf of the P&C and I’m sure our families, I would like to thank LCPS staff for the incredible effort in getting online learning up and running, to hand delivering work packs for families. Talk about above and beyond, and it is very much appreciated.
● Thank you to all families who were a part of our online shopping with the mothers’ day stall. l was amazed at the sales of $855, what a great effort given the current situation. I thought this worked well for our busy families. What a great way so no one misses out. It also alleviates having to handle a lot of cash by our volunteers. Maybe we can look into this becoming a regular
![Page 10: Jock Garven - Principal PO Box 279 Lake Cathie NSW 2445 T ...€¦ · (20 July 2020). thing and without Covid-19 we will have a few more helpers involved, just a thought.
● It has been pretty quiet with other things. At this meeting I was going to talk about fundraising ideas, but this does not seem valid at this current time.
● I have looked into a Facebook page and I think making a new person is the way to go but will talk this over with Jock and the team.
● Thank you again for the efforts in keeping our school a clean safe place for students to return too.
Treasurer’s Report
● Account Balances as of 13 May 2020 @ 6pm ● Canteen $1276.56 Main $1417.57 Savings $2358.09 Total $5052.22 ● Payments Mothers’ day gifts $1012.44 ● We have worked with our accountant to get the Job Keeper for our employee.
We have had to pay out the $1500 per fortnight to keep us eligible and we are expecting our first reimbursement from the ATO this week.
Principal’s Report
● Can I start by passing on my sincere gratitude to students, parents and staff for the way the positive messages of learning and wellbeing are being encouraged and promoted across the school as we continue through this extreme chapter in our lives.
● Commitment from parents to support Government Health directives has seen smaller numbers of students at school for the last 3-4 weeks of term 1 and at the beginning of term 2. During this week, the beginning of “Phase 1” of reconnecting with school and friends, we have seen around 170 students on site each day.
● Our amazing staff created an online platform very quickly considering the learning and wellbeing needs of our students and their families. Their dedication to a continuity of learning has seen a new direction in teaching and learning pedagogy. This is and has been part of our School Plan and sets us up strategically for our new learning environments that are being built as we speak. The way teachers and students are leveraging technology to support learning, communication and connection is amazing to witness.
● We await direction from Education and Health as to when we will invite all students back full time and will communicate this to parents as soon as advice is available. We are also awaiting instruction in relation to our Mid-Year Reporting to Parents process. With a significant change to regular learning routines, the Department of Education will advise us shortly of our requirements in this area.
● Can I encourage families to continue focusing on individual and family wellbeing. Remember to get out of the house for some exercise together, perhaps growing something in the garden, or even just in a pot. The idea of nurturing each other can come from watching something grow, looking after it, tending it, watering and being proud of its growth.
● Our building upgrade is progressing very well with AWEdwards slightly ahead of schedule making good use of this great autumn weather. The next 4 weeks should see all slabs down in all three buildings, wall frames and roof structures going up. Block G, our two storey building, will have ground and first floor slabs and all steel structure in place too. Then for the huge fit-out!!
● Enormous thanks to Roger Bussell for organising the JobKeeper package for the P&C to support its paid employee. A big job and very timely.
● Rachel Caller and I will continue to work through the arrangements for moving towards a school operated canteen to reduce the burden on the P&C, especially the Treasurer. Part of the process will involve us looking at options for the appropriate award and payment structure for the canteen supervisor so that it can be adopted in a longterm capacity. A long service entitlement may need to be calculated and paid from the P&C as the Department won’t recognise service from outside its own organisation.
![Page 11: Jock Garven - Principal PO Box 279 Lake Cathie NSW 2445 T ...€¦ · (20 July 2020). We have updated the attached Return to full-time face-to-face learning guidelines to assist schools](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022050602/5fa9eb33fd11be2195624a85/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
● It was great to hear so many comments of thanks for the inclusion of the P&C
Mothers’ Day stall in operation during this crisis. Kylie Whiting, Bec Bouldin, Sarah Jones and Roger Bussell providing invaluable leadership of this super online and pickup store for our mothers. Thank you so much.
● We look towards the future, among all of this change, concern, and despair for many families, both for lives lost and massive financial concerns across the community. We will continue working hard to provide stability for families and the community and a positive way forward for our students in their learning journeys.
