JFB PTO at Work for Our Kids

The Amazing Amaryllis Race; Granny’s Garden School (grades K-4) Ask your student about the amaryllis bulb that was planted in his or her classroom this week! Each class is in charge of raising one beautiful plant from a bulb. The students are using the plants to practice their scientific observation skills, and will be charting and graphing their plant’s growth over the next several weeks. Certificates will be awarded to the classrooms who come up with the best name for their plant, and who have the first bloom, longest leaf, and tallest stem. There is also a “late bloomer” award!

Mrs. Rower said the students and staff are very excited for the project. “The kids were amazed at the size of the bulbs, anxious to see how fast they grow, and beyond excited to name the amaryllis. The staff sees so many potential learning opportunities and loves a little friendly competition!”

Animal Essentials - Can’t Live Without You; Cincinnati Zoo (first grade) What do animals really need to survive? Through live animal encounters, students began to understand how animals rely on essential traits and behaviors to survive. They also investigated to see if the animals are essential to their habitats.
