We use our “PAL’ing Around Days” and our “All School Assemblies” throughout the year to take time and celebrate our students for the positive actions and decisions they make here at school. We believe it is important to take that time and celebrate our achievements with one another in order to build a close-knit community. As a professional learning community, the staff members at Prairieview have the opportunity to recognize their colleagues each week by awarding them a FISH (an acknowledgement of a job well done). May 6 th begins Teacher Appreciation Week, and we take this time, as an entire school community, to honor all of our staff members that go above and beyond to make Prairieview a special place for kids. Throughout the year your kind words and notes let our teachers know how much you appreciate their efforts. While we are always proud of our dedicated staff, during this week we place special emphasis on celebrating and honoring them. If you have experienced an exceptional act of service by a Prairieview staff member, please take the time this week to let them know. Estimados Padres y/o Encargados,

Durante el año escolar, reconocemos los esfuerzos de los estudiantes en convertirse en buenos ciudadanos, entregando "PALS" a aquellos que muestran cualidades positivas. Nosotros usamos nuestro programa de "PAL'ing Around” y “Días de Asambleas” durante todo el año para tomar tiempo y celebrar a nuestros estudiantes por las acciones positivas y las decisiones que toman aquí en la escuela. Creemos que es importante tener ese momento y celebrar nuestros logros con el fin de construir una comunidad muy unida. Como una comunidad profesional de aprendizaje, los miembros del personal en Prairieview tienen la oportunidad de reconocer a sus colegas cada semana concediéndoles un pez (el reconocimiento de un trabajo bien hecho). El 6 de mayo comienza la Semana de Apreciación a los Maestros, y tomamos esta oportunidad, como una comunidad escolar entera, para honrar a todos nuestros empleados que van más allá para hacer de Prairieview un lugar especial para todos los estudiantes.

Durante todo el año sus amables palabras y notas que nuestros maestros reciben le dejan saber cuánto aprecian sus esfuerzos. Aunque siempre estamos orgullosos de nuestro personal dedicado, durante esta semana ponemos especial énfasis en celebrar y honrar a todos ellos. Si ha experimentado un acto excepcional de servicio por un miembro del personal de Prairieview, tómese el tiempo esta semana para hacerse lo saber. Una simple nota destacando sus cualidades especiales podría hacerle el día a esa persona, incluso su año!

Teacher and Staff Appreciation!

Discovery Day coming up fast! DD this year is being held Friday, May 10. This is such a FUN day at PV! If you would like to be involved this year, please contact Melanie Bruce at [email protected] or “J” Richards at [email protected]. Market Day pick up is scheduled for Saturday, May 11th. While the event is done at Meadowview School, Prairieview is hosting. This means that we need 15 volunteers to help that morning and get orders filled and passed out. If you are able to come and help, please contact Kelly Murphy at 847-752-8780.

It is that time of year where we get to show our principal, secretaries, custodians, teachers, and staff how wonderful we think they are! Over the next few weeks please be on the look out for the activities and ideas that you and your family can do to show our excellent PV team how truly fabulous we think they are! But shhh, keep it a secret! I

The PV PTO is still in need of new faces! We are looking for anyone interested in joining/chairing a committee and new board members. If you would like to be involved with the PV PTO in any way, please contact Kristi James at 913-549-8690 or [email protected]. The principal and assistant principal of Frederick School will be attending the PV PTO meeting on Monday, May 13th for any 4th grade parents. Elections for the PV PTO will also be held at this meeting. A sheet was sent home for Turn off the Technology Week. Complete 5 squares and turn it in to your teacher on Monday, May 6th and receive a Popsicle treat on Tuesday! Have a fun and safe weekend!

Teacher Appreciation Week

Monday, May 6th- Friday, May 10th “Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others

belong to us as well.” ~Voltaire Prairieview has the BEST teachers and staff! Teacher Appreciation Week is the prefect time to tell them all a BIG thank you! We encourage parents and students to participate in one or all of the following activities! *A note with YOUR teacher’s FAVORITE items was sent home as well! Monday, May 6: Bring in a homemade gift. This could be a craft such as a decorated picture of you and your teacher. It might be some homemade cookies of muffins that you made! A special painting you may want to share! Tuesday, May 7: Please bring in a special thank you note or special drawing to thank your teacher. We will be putting them on a giant heart in the classroom. Wednesday, May 8: Wear your teacher’s favorite color or a Prairieview shirt! Thursday, May 9: Surprise your teacher with your own creation! A craft, a book you wrote about what your teacher taught you, your teacher’s favorite candy, a gift card to Starbucks…whatever you would like to tell them thank you! Friday, May 10: Have a blast with your teacher at DiScOvErY DaY!!!!!!! Remember you have many teachers that are with you each day! Don’t forget the music, art and PE teachers as well as the reading specialists, and MR. Major Saver Discount Cards: Please continue to sell Major Saver discount cards over the weekend. The cards sell for $10 each, but buyers will save much more! Even more exciting is how the money will be used: 20% of Foundation46 revenue will go directly to your child’s school, 20% will be applied toward Foundation46 initiatives, and 60% will be invested in iPads, apps and related professional development! Help us reach our goal of selling an average of one card per student, raising nearly $20,000 for our schools! The final day of collections is Monday, April 8th. Destination ImagiNation Fun Night: Come celebrate the end of the 2012-2013 season with our teams and learn more about DI. Participate in Instant Challenges and see 2012-2013 teams perform. This event will begin at 6:30pm on April 26 at Frederick School. Admission is free, but we recommend a donation to the Global DI Tournament Fund of $5/person or $15/family.

Destination ImagiNation State Tournament:Please wish our DI teams luck at the state tournament on April 13th. Congratulations to the Flying Narwhals, DI Tornadoes, and the Snooze Buttons on qualifying for this tournament!

Home Run for Education: Foundation46 will host its 2nd Annual Home Run for Education on September 14th. Round up a co-ed softball team to challenge the 2012 champions! We may have new rules this year pertaining to the gender balance of the teams so be sure to recruit both men and women.

CCSD 46 Continuing Student Registration Important Reminders 

 All students who are currently enrolled in CCSD 46 Pre‐K through 7th grade are required to complete registration for the 2013‐2014 school year  and to attend Central Registration at Frederick School in August. The table below provides information needed to complete this registration.  If you will not be returning to CCSD 46, please notify your school office.  May 10 – June 27  Review the pre‐printed registration form and make any necessary changes.  

Sign the updated registration form and return it to school.  All registration forms should be returned during this period WITH OR WITHOUT PAYMENT so your child can be placed in classes for next year.  Registration fees paid in full during this period will receive a discount of $25 for students entering grades 1‐8*.  The fees for the 2013‐2014 school year are located on the registration form. 

July 25  Central Registration information will be mailed to all students. August 6 & 7 at Frederick School 10:00 a.m. –  7:00 p.m. 

Central Registration occurs for ALL students, continuing and new.  All CCSD 46 families must bring the documents listed below to Frederick School.  Teacher assignments and schedules will be available at Central Registration. • July letter (colored form) • One of the following current proof of residency (60 days or less) 

o Utility bill (phone bills not accepted) o Cable TV or Internet bill o Credit/Debit card statement 

• Physical forms required for specific grades o Pre­K:  physical exam and record of immunizations o Kindergarten:  physical exam, dental exam, vision exam, record 

of immunizations o 2nd Graders:  dental exam o 6th Graders:  physical exam, dental exam, record of 

immunizations including Tdap o 7th & 8th Graders:  Tdap immunization required o New Out of State Students:  physical exam, dental exam, vision 

exam, record of immunizations. *Registration fees for the Kindergarten half‐day program do not receive a discount. Early kindergarten registration is vital to prepare for class building.  

• Families who cannot attend Central Registration will need to establish proof of residency at their home school starting Monday, August 12.   

• New students to the district entering grades K‐8 will need to register at the District Registrar’s Office, located at Grayslake Middle School.  Please check the district web site at http://www.d46.org for the registrar’s office hours or call (847) 543‐5809. 

• New Kindergarten registration continues.  If you know of a family who may not have registered in March, Please ask them to contact the Registrar’s Office. 

• Bus stop information is based on your last submitted address or daycare information.  If you have moved or will be making changes to your childcare arrangements, you should submit a bus stop change to the Registrar's Office as soon as possible.  There is no guarantee that bus stop changes submitted after August 1st will be completed for the first week of school. 

• School offices will be open Monday through Thursday during the summer months to drop off registration materials.

 A todos los estudiantes inscritos actualmente de Pre Jardín de niños (Pre‐K) hasta 7° grado en el CCSD se les solicita que llenen una inscripción para el año escolar 2013‐2014, y que asistan a la Inscripción Central en la Frederick School en agosto. En la tabla siguiente se proporciona la información necesaria para llenar esta inscripción. Si no va a regresar al CCSD 46, por favor notifíquelo en su oficina escolar.  10 de mayo – 27 de junio 

Revise el formulario de inscripción preimpreso y haga los cambios necesarios. Firme el formulario actualizado y devuélvalo a la escuela. Todos los formularios de inscripción deberán devolverse durante este período CON O SIN PAGO para que a su hijo/a se le asigne un grupo para el año siguiente. Los pagos de inscripción hechos en su totalidad durante este período recibirán un descuento de $25 por quienes ingresen de 1° a 8° grados*. En el formulario de inscripción se encuentran los costos de matrícula para el año escolar 2013‐2014. 

25 de julio  Se enviará por correo a los estudiantes la información de Inscripción Central. 6 y 7 de agosto en la Frederick School de 10:00 a.m. a 7:00 p.m. 

La Inscripción Central se da para TODOS los estudiantes, los que continúen y los de nuevo ingreso. Todas las familias del CCSD 46 deben traer los documentos siguientes a la Frederick School. La asignación de maestros y horarios estará disponible en la Inscripción Central. • Carta de julio (formulario de color) • Una de las siguientes pruebas de residencia (con fecha máxima de 60 días) 

o Factura de servicios (no factura de teléfono) o Factura de TV por cable/internet  o Extracto de la tarjeta de crédito/débito 

• Formularios de los exámenes físicos (médicos) requeridos para grados específicos

la vista y registro de vacunas *En las cuotas de inscripción para el programa de medio día de Jardín de niños no hay descuento. La inscripción previa a Jardín de niños es vital para preparar la organización de los grupos.  

• Las familias que no puedan asistir a la Inscripción Central necesitarán presentar una prueba de residencia en su escuela principal a partir del lunes 12 de agosto. 

• Los estudiantes de nuevo ingreso desde Jardín de niños hasta 8° grado necesitan inscribirse en la Oficina de Inscripciones del Distrito ubicada en la Grayslake Middle School. Favor de verificar los horarios de esta oficina en el sitio web http://www.d46.org o llame al (847) 543‐5809. 

• La inscripción de nuevo ingreso a Jardín de niños continúa. Si conoce a familias que no se hayan inscrito en marzo, pídales por favor que se pongan en contacto con la Oficina de inscripciones (Registrar). 

• Las paradas de autobús se basan en la información de la última dirección o guardería que presentó. Si se ha mudado o cambiará de guardería, deberá presentar un cambio de parada de autobús en la Oficina de inscripciones tan pronto como sea posible. No se garantiza que los cambios en paradas presentados después del 1° de agosto se lleven a cabo para estar listos la primera semana de clases. 

• Las oficinas escolares estarán abiertas de lunes a jueves durante los meses de verano para que entregue los materiales de inscripción.

Summer Academy 2013 Grayslake School District 46

Grades - Kindergarten through current 8th grade. Dates - Classes will be held June 10th – July 3rd with no school on Fridays. Times - 1st period 8:15-9:25, 2nd period 9:30-10:40, 3rd period 10:45-11:55 Eligibility - The program is open to all District 46 students who could benefit from remedial courses or who wish to participate in enrichment courses. Transportation - Transportation is the responsibility of the parent(s). Bus service is not available for the Summer Academy. Attendance Policy - Consistent attendance is recommended throughout the summer academy program. Teachers will plan activities and prepare materials based on enrollment. Attendance will be taken just as during the regular school year. Course Cancellation - District 46 reserves the right to cancel any course that does not meet minimum enrollment requirements. Confirmation - Students and parents will receive course confirmation by the first week of June. Registration - Early registration is encouraged. Classes will be filled in the order in which the registrations are received. Registrations can be mailed or delivered through your child’s campus to Prairieview School, 103 E. Belvidere Rd., Hainesville, IL 60030 c/o Julie Mayer or Stephanie Possehl. No phone registrations will be accepted. A student’s current grade level is used to register for Summer Academy. 8:15-9:25 Enrichment Classes Pre-K: Kindergarten Readiness Brobst Kindergarten readiness class is designed for children who will be entering Kindergarten in the fall. We will be using many fun activities to strengthen and develop basic skills such as number sense, letter and sound recognition, and fine motor control. Come join the fun and prepare for the best days of your life. K-1: Ocean Adventures Faubert Our oceans are full of beauty and wonder – a separate world waiting for us to explore. We will become ocean explorers this summer and learn about the mysteries from within the deep ocean! We will discover different ocean animals through engaging activities and create amazing ocean animal crafts. Through fun-filled games, experiments and arts and crafts, we will become experts on our oceans! K-­2:  Reader's  Theater                   Lagudem  Lights,  Camera,  Action-­‐Join  me  for  the  imaginative  world  of  Reader's  Theater.  The  strategy  behind  this  class  is  to  blend  your  child's  desire  to  perform  with  their  need  for  oral  reading  and  fluency.  Shy  children  will  blossom  as  well  as  learn  how  to  work  cooperatively  with  their  peers.

K-2: Little Chefs Edmunds Crank up the heat in D46's kitchen this summer and become a master chef! Campers will get to test their culinary skills while learning how to make fun, delicious and nutritious recipes. This class will also include food safety, sanitation and nutrition. At the end of our session, campers will have created their own cookbook to take home! 1-2: Spanish Sims  Hola! We welcome your children to join us in exploring the Spanish-speaking world through interactive instruction, arts and crafts activities, cooking, native dishes and various supplemental games and activities. Students of all ages will be introduced to the culture of the Hispanic world and will discover its magnificence while learning to appreciate its value and diversity. Students will obtain speaking and listening skills while studying Spanish vocabulary (numbers, colors, days of the week, objects, greetings) and will be able to communicate short expressions in Spanish. 2-3: Beyond the Books…Reading for Meaning Traiforos This class is a reading enrichment to go beyond the books. This class is a mix of reading, thinking and fluency practice. Good readers use strategies to help them understand what they read. The goal is to equip students with comprehension strategies they can use independently and confidently and to instill them with a greater love for reading. Non-fiction material will be a focus. 2-5: Arts and Crafts Mays Come try out a variety of art and craft projects. Make some of your supplies to create fabulous works of art. Make your own stamps and use it to make your own greeting card and summer visor! We will make a wind chime from seashells! Other art projects include cardboard space- ships, fancy shades, Independence Day pinwheels, Rock Pets and more! 3-4: Computer Club Speck Let’s have fun using the computer. We will explore the Internet and find tons of sites for you to have fun with. 3-4: Math Games Walker Do you enjoy games and using technology? In this Common Core math class concepts including multiplication, division, fractions, data analysis and place value will be reviewed. We will play math games using cards, dice, dominoes, computers, Smartboard and IPads. 3-4: Brain Boosters Guerrero Cranium Challenge, mind masters, amazing mazes and brain teasers…see what I have in my bag of tricks! Keep your mind sharp while having fun with friends, doing puzzles and problem solving activities!

3-5: Super Soccer Chitwood Students  will  learn  the  basics  of  soccer  through  playing  taught  by  a  travel  soccer  coach!  We  will  play  fun  soccer  drills,  be  challenged  physically  and  mentally,  and  have  a  blast  while  we  actively  learn!   2-5: Poetry Palooza Ford Do you suffer from metrophobia (the fear of poetry)? You are not alone! Kids all over the world claim to fear or even (gasp!) hate poetry. Whether you love reading and writing poems, or they currently can make you shiver and shake, there is a style of poetry out there for you to enjoy! In this class, we will play writing games and activities in order to explore all types of poetry. 2-5: Music Maker Korkowski Do you love to sing and dance? You’ll love this – you’ll be making a musical instrument each week! Learn fun songs and have a small show every Thursday. You’ll also get the chance to learn and play the Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion instruments! 1-5: Let’s Get Moving Gildenberg Come have fun out in the sun with the walking club. Throughout the session we will also keep track of how many steps we take from walking around the school and some other fun activities, which would include obstacle courses, races (including three-legged races), and some other games that will keep our feet moving. 1-5: Games, Sports and Fun Mauro Have fun and enjoy the summer by playing a variety of games, sports and activities with friends. Both indoor and outdoor games will include dodge ball, basketball, baseball, floor hockey, capture the flag and much more! 5-6: Hand Me Down Genes Spooner Learn the basics of heredity and genetics! We will learn how traits like eye color and hair type are inherited through many generations. Using a variety of models and activities, we will discover how genes are passed along and how DNA is a recipe for how we look. At the end of the class, we will use a DNA recipe to create our own DNA dogs. 3-8: Creative Faces and Learning Perspective (A two section Art class!) Crane Students will discover different ways to create interesting artwork using peoples faces as their inspiration. They  will  also  learn  how  to  use  one  and  two  point  perspective  drawing  methods  to  create  houses,  buildings  and  rooms.   6-8: Cheerleading Dunham If  you  love  to  dance  and  cheer,  you're  just  the  person  we're  looking  for!  During  Summer  Academy  Cheer  Class  you'll  learn  dances,  stunts,  cheers,  chants,  jumps  and  other  fun  cheerleading  activities!  Cheer  class  is  designed  for  cheerleaders  of  all  abilities  that  want  to  spend  some  time  making  friends,  moving  around,  and  being  outside!  No  one  is  pushed  beyond  his/her  ability  and  all  instruction  is  conducted  in  a  positive,  supportive  atmosphere.  Let’s  go  team!!

7-8: Creative Writing Nichols This  course  is  designed  to  have  students  come  out  of  their  comfort  zones  and  enhance  writing  and  speech  skills  by  writing  creative  and  descriptive  personal  narratives,  a  persuasive  paper,  and  a  mental  image  paper,  and  then  reading  them  to  the  class  to  incorporate  speech  activity.  In  this  course  we  will  focus  more  on  descriptive  and  creative  writing  ideas  and  workshops  rather  then  just  conventions.  The  students  will  have  a  writing  assignment  each  week  to  work  on,  and  then  be  responding  to  other  classmate’s  papers  for  the  next  writing  assignment.  This  will  help  students  interact  with  classmates  by  creating  their  own  narratives  and  reacting  to  others  by  writing  positive  responses.  There  will  be  a  specific  lesson  on  the  type  of  writing  they  are  to  produce  that  week  and  then  they  will  have  time  to  discuss,  create,  and  respond  each  week.  We  will  also  incorporate  fun  speech  activities  to  help  students  grow  as  presenters.   7-8: Pre-Algebra Loy This course is designed for students who are interested in advancing their math level to be eligible for Algebra for the upcoming school year. The foundation for this class will focus on problem solving and a depth of knowledge needed to apply the concepts learned. By the end of this course students will be able to solve multi-step equations, inequalities & proportions that include integers & rational numbers. Students will understand and be able to graph linear equations and systems of equations. They will be able to apply geometric formulas & properties. Students taking this course must have teacher recommendation to take this class, be able to attend ALL school days, and be able to provide their own calculator. During this course, we will be working through the entire pre-algebra curriculum in preparation for the Algebra course. This is not a course for remediation. This class is two class periods long and will run from 8:15 a.m.-10:40 a.m. each day. The cost is $175.00.

9:30-10:40 Enrichment Classes K: First Grade Readiness Brobst This class will include beginning reading, writing, and math skills that are necessary for first grade preparation. K-1: Working With Words Lindo Students will gain experiences to develop and support their word knowledge through fun and creative activities. The activities will include word games, art, spelling, creating a word wheel, and more. K-2: It’s a Jungle Out There! Edmunds Welcome to the Jungle! Campers will embark on a jungle safari, using student made binoculars, created with recycled materials. All while learning fun facts about jungle animals, recreating their natural habitats, promoting conservation efforts and “how to” care for our environment. We’ll create crafts, sing songs, read books, role-play and much more!

K-2: Dr. Seuss Chitwood Students  will  explore  the  silliness,  made  up  words  and  rhymes  with  the  Cat.    We  will  have  a  “Seusstastical”  time  exploring  books,  doing  reader’s  theater  and  making  crafts  all  based  on  the  work  of  Dr.  Seuss.    Don’t  delay,  sign-­‐up  today!      1-2: Second Helping Reading Lagudem Students will continue to develop and improve their basic reading, comprehension and writing skills. 1-2: Silly Snacks and Treats Traiforos Snacks and treats are foods we all eat. In this class, learn how to make your snacks and treats smile. Snacks and treats created will range from theme related snacks to just plain silly! If time allows, a read aloud will be incorporated during class to correlate with the created snack. Products may contain soy, nut, dairy, ect. In order to make this class a success, you will be asked to make daily and weekly donations of food and other needed supply items. 1-2: Math Games Walker Do you enjoy games and using technology? In this Common Core math class, math concepts including addition, subtraction, time, money and place value will be reviewed. We will play math games using cards, dice, dominoes, computers, Smartboards and IPads. 2-3: Author’s Club Faubert In this interactive course, young authors hear and read award-winning children’s books and share their reflections. Students build language and literacy skills through dramatic play, storytelling, creative writing, journaling and more! 2-5: Sports Mania 2 Korkowski Students will learn fundamentals and basic rules, team building, sportsmanship and have FUN! We will make up a team name and a team flag. Students will learn basic health concepts and even make their own snacks on Thursdays. Each week there will be a different sport – volleyball, floor hockey, basketball and bowling! 3-4: Second Helping Reading Speck Students will continue to develop and improve their basic reading, comprehension and writing skills. 3-4: Spanish Sims  Hola! We welcome your children to join us in exploring the Spanish-speaking world through interactive instruction, arts and crafts activities, cooking, native dishes and various supplemental games and activities. These games can range from trivia to bingo (and they will all relate to whatever movie(s) we will be watching). 3-5: Reader’s Theater Ford Imagine being part of a play where you don’t have to sew costumes, paint sets or make props! There’s no need to slather thick stage make up onto your face and you don’t even have to memorize any lines! Does this sound too good to be true? Well, welcome to the world of Reader’s Theater! In this class, you will learn that all you need to tell a great story is your voice and, most importantly, your imagination. 3-6: Math Fun Mauro Keep your math skills sharp this summer by playing a variety of math games. Cards, dice and other manipulatives will be used to gain a better understanding of multiplication and division. 5-6: Second Helping Reading Garner Students will continue to develop and improve their basic reading, comprehension and writing skills. 5-8: Sculpture World Crane Students create 3-demensional artwork using a variety of different materials, such as clay, wire, and plaster. K-8: Art Extravaganza Butts Art Extravaganza will take you on an adventure through the world of art! We will explore famous works of art for inspiration and then create our own masterpieces using a variety of art materials and techniques. You will have the opportunity to create paintings, drawings, artist trading cards, textured metal art, fuzzy felted wool creations, art puppets, no –sew real fabric quilts and more! This is sure to be an art adventure you will never forget! 5-8: Computer Club Wolf Let’s have fun using the computer. We will explore the Internet and find tons of sites for you to have fun with.

10:45-11:55 Enrichment Classes K-2: Magic School Bus Science Experiments Chitwood Students  will  jump  on  the  Magic  School  Bus  for  the  ride  of  their  lives.  We  will  be  exploring  Magic  School  Bus  books,  doing  science  experiments,  and  making  crafts.  Hop  on  and  join  Ms.  Frizzle  for  a  magical  time!   K-2: Creepy Crawlers Edmunds Campers will explore the great outdoors in Summer Academy! We will learn about many different insects, spiders and snakes by exploring the underground with “Diary of a Worm.” Campers will make tasty creations including jello worms and “dirt” along with a variety of other crafts using recycled materials.  K-­2:  Computer  Club                 Lindo  Let’s have fun using the computer. We will explore the Internet and find tons of sites for you to have fun with. 1-2: Second Helping Math Lagudem Students will continue to develop and improve their basic math skills through the use of manipulatives, games, and activities. 1-2: Monsters, Myths and Mermaids Dunham Students develop their reading, researching and listening skills through the exploration of ‘out of this world’ tales about mysterious creatures, such as the Loch Ness Monster and singing mermaids. Writing skills are advanced as students create their own accounts of monster sightings in formats such as illustrated newspaper accounts, live reports and short stories. 1-2: Summer Adventures Faubert What better way to learn than having fun playing games this summer! Each week, we will take on a different theme and explore everything from sports, insects, ocean life and more! Through engaging activities, literature, arts and crafts, and delicious snacks! Students will discover everything that summer has to offer! 2-3: Exploring Space Brobst Students will be able to research and discover the wonders of space and our planets. They will use books and computers to do research and produce projects. After learning many aspects of space, students will use their knowledge and creativity to design their own planet! 3-4: Read It, Share It, Prepare It! Walker Do you love books? Do you want to cook and eat snacks? In this class we will read, share and discuss all types of books. We will read inside and outside as a class, with partners and independently. Snacks will go along with the themes of the books and will be prepared by the class. *You will be asked to bring in food items each week for our cooking activities. Please note any food allergies or dietary restrictions. 3-6: Create a Game Mays Have you ever thought about creating a game to play with your friends, changing the rules of a game, or combining two games to make it even more fun? How about combining a board game with a sport? Come join your friends and learn what it takes to create a game, write the rules, teach it to the group and try it out together! 3-4: Let’s Be Healthy! Wolf This class will teach girls the importance of having confidence and staying physically fit. The class will have lessons that help develop healthy eating choices and deal with real life problems, as well as have a portion for exercise. We will try a variety of exercises to stay physically fit and have fun! This class is for girls…so we can build strong and healthy relationships! 5-6: Second Helping Math Garner Students will continue to develop and improve their basic math skills through the use of manipulatives, games, and activities. 5-8: Spanish Sims  Hola! We welcome your children to join us in exploring the Spanish-speaking world through interactive instruction, arts and crafts activities, cooking, native dishes and various supplemental games and activities. Students of all ages will be introduced to the culture of the Hispanic world and will discover its magnificence while learning to appreciate its value and diversity. Examples-Piggy Banks, Phone holder-jewelry box, appetizer dishes, etc… 4-8: Sports Mania I Korkowski Students will learn fundamentals and basic rules, team building, sportsmanship and have FUN! They will make a team name and a team flag. The students will also learn basic health concepts and every Thursday, they will be making their own, healthy snack. Each week will be a different sport – from whiffle ball/kick ball, flag football, soccer and ultimate Frisbee!

2-8: Hoops, Hoops and more Hoops Mauro Students will participate in a variety of fun drills and activities designed to improve basketball skills and fundamentals. 7-8: What does it take to be Great! Spooner Students will be introduced to 16 Habits of Mind that are characteristic of successful people. Students will research a successful person of their choice - an athlete, historical figure, scientist, entertainer, family member - and identify the habits of mind that contribute to the person’s success in their field. This class will allow students to practice research, note-taking, writing, and presentation skills. 7-8: Second Helping Math Nichols Students will continue to develop and improve their basic math skills through the use of manipulatives, games, and activities.

K-4 Activity Camp Crane, Geske, Mays Participating students will take part in a variety of fun athletic activities that will build not only your child’s athletic skills, but also his/her sportsmanship skills as well. Children in activity camp that are enrolled in morning classes should bring a sack lunch. THIS CLASS HAS A COST OF $195.00 before April 30 or $200.00 after. 5-8 Activity Camp Crane, Geske, Mays Participating students will take part in a variety of fun athletic activities that will build not only your child’s athletic skills, but also his/her sportsmanship skills as well.
