Organizational GoalsPromote evidence based information on stroke within members of the community through the utilization of clinics and health fairs.Broaden the knowledge base of the community regarding their individual risk factors for stroke.Create awareness of the need for immediate medical treatment when stroke symptoms arise.

What we Do:

To communicate the types and symptoms of a stroke during the clinic sessions and achieve reciprocation after an educational presentation.To educate the community on identifying and reducing risk factors for stroke after listening to a presentation.To individualize each clients educational needs based on their identified risk factors through a one on one session at the clinic. To define the meaning of FAST and have community members summarize the meaning of this acronym after visiting the clinic.

Community Objectives

Presentation will vary on event type and location, but typical offering includes:20-30 minute presentation on the types of strokes, identifying risk factors, learning the symptoms, and the use of the FAST acronym.Individual completes stroke screening questionnaire and has blood pressure and pulse measured.Individualized educational debriefing session discussing results and identified risk factors.Question and answer session.

What does a stroke clinic consist of?

Stroke Awareness Marketing PlanParticipation in community expos, health fairs, and public events where individuals at risk for a stroke would benefit from education.Senior enrichment days, Relay for Life eventsConduct informational presentations and screenings to various organizations such as home owners associations and retirement clubs (gardening, traveling, classic car).Presentation opportunities and individualized screenings at retirement communities and senior centers. Many welcome individuals during their meal times and are often eager for educational opportunities.

Services will be provided three days a week from 9:00am -5:00pm in the office.There will be no need for staff members to be on call as services are pre-arranged. Educational clinics will be coordinated with each interested entity to determine optimal date and time.Occasional weekend coverage for community expos and health fairs.

The Executive Director and Volunteer Coordinator will be full time positions at one FTE each.

The Marketing Coordinator and Educational Coordinator will be part time employees at 0.5 FTE each.

Volunteers will primarily be used to provide stroke screenings and education to the community.

Journal PublicationRecruitment of Staff financial costs:

Services will be offered for free to the community as a benefit. Donations, grants, and federal funding will cover operating expenses. Grants will be obtained for programs such as Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Prevention and the National Institutes of Health.Community fundraisers such as car washes and bake sales.Financial offsets:

The earlier stroke victims seek treatment, the better the outcomes and increased treatment options. Time is of essence. Individuals can modify their stroke risk factors based on lifestyle changes.Stroke is the #1 Preventable cause of disability.
