INTRODUCTION ABOUT YOUR SYSTEM

1.1 IntroductionMESOS M4240H is a 4U storage server specially tailored to meet the scale-out storage needs of diverse datacenters. It features large storage capacity of up to 24 x 6G SAS or 6G/3G SATA hot-plug 3.5” storage drive devices in 4U size, 6 x 6Gb/s mini-SAS ports, 2 x RJ11 console port, 2 x RJ45 management port (2 controller modules), 2 x 760W redundant PSUs.

The MESOS M4240H is a great choice for applications such as highly scalable and high-throughput object storage and distributed file system in cloud datacenters.

Provide Extremely Large Storage in 4U Space

Big Data is getting particularly much attention today because of the growth predictions for data. MESOS M4240H is a standard 4U rackmount system. It amazingly supports up to 24 x 2.5" or 3.5" hot-plug SAS/SATA HDD/SSD bays. It provides unprecedented storage combinations and capacity in a 4U chassis for diverse datacenters. Moreover, the system eliminates unnecessary features and positioned itself as a pure storage server, powered by Quanta MESOS solution.

Bring You the Most Scale Up with Daisy-Chain Design

MESOS M4240H not only lowers the cost, but also highly increases the scale up to 72 stor-age drives (total 3 sets of M4240H systems) because of its daisy-chain design. The excep-tional design makes all components work smoothly together. Plus two redundant 760W power supply modules, the MESOS M4240H can be ranked as one of the most efficient server ever.

2.1 Safety Measures

WARNING!Always ask for assistance to move or lift the system.

WARNING!Only perform troubleshooting as authorized by the product documentation, or as directed by a service and support team. Repairs not authorized by warranty may void the warranty and damage the system.

WARNING!Always make sure to disconnect the system from the AC electrical source. Powering down the system DOES NOT ensure there is no electrical activity in the system.

WARNING!Server components and circuit boards are easily damaged by discharges of static electricity. Working on servers that are connected to a power supply can be extremely dangerous. Follow the guidelines below to avoid personal injury or damage to the server.

WARNING!Always disconnect the server from the power outlet whenever you are working inside the server case.

WARNING!Wear a grounded wrist strap. If none are available, discharge any personal static electricity by touching the bare metal chassis of the server case, or the bare metal body of any other grounded device.

WARNING!Humid environments tend to have less static electricity than dry environments. A grounding strap is warranted whenever danger of static electricity exists.

WARNING!Do not touch the components on the unless it is necessary to do so. Do not flex or stress circuit boards.

WARNING!Leave all replacement components inside their static-proof packaging until you are ready to use them.

INSTALLING A STORAGE DRIVE TRAY INSTALLING HARDWARE

1. Remove the storage drive tray assembly from the storage drive bay.

2. Remove the four 6/4 securing screws from the storage drive and tray.

3. Lift the storage drive to remove.

Installing Storage Drives

Note:If using SATA drive, please make sure having Interposer card installed on the back of storage drive tray

1. With the connectors facing the open end of the storage drive tray, align the storage drive over the storage drive tray.

2. Install the tray and secure with the four 6/4 screws.

3. Replace the storage drive tray assembly in the drive bay.

Install / Replace Storage Drives Configuration

SAS and SATA Storage Drive is not recommended mixing in the same system. It’s sug-gested to use the following figures below to plan where you will install the storage drives.

These figures represent fully-loaded system with storage drives.

Figure 2-2. Storage Drive Bay Described

However, the same guidelines apply even if you are filling some of the storage drive slots with blank trays in the mixing storage drive setting.

USING CLI COMMANDS TO CONFIGURE YOUR SYSTEM CONFIGURE YOUR SYSTEM

3.1 Using CLI commands to configure your systemYour system provides a basic command line interface (CLI) commands set as an alternative for configuring the system.

In order to use the CLI, you might use the UART or Ethernet port to communicate with the system. In host side, it’s suggested to use a serial terminal emulation program like Hyper-Terminal / Putty / Tera Term or telnet/SSH application to communicate with your system. In UART port, the baud rate should be set as 115200bps. In Ethernet port, the speed can be 10M or 100M. Before entering CLI, you might need to enter the password 'jbodstorage' in the command prompt.

Note:Please connect to the system through UART port first and assign the ip / subnet mask / Gateway address using the following commands for Ethernet port connec-tion if the ip address’s information is not available.
