regardingthevariousmethodsof treatingtheepidemic. Whenthereportwasissued,

nohomeopathicfigureswereincluded. TheHouseofLordsrequestedanexplanation,

anditwasadmittedthatifthehomeopathicfiguresweretobeincludedinthereport,it

would"skewtheresultssoitwassuppressed. Uponexamination,theburiedreport

revealedthatunderallopathiccarethemortalitywas59.2%whileunderhomeopathic

caremortalitywasonly9%.

In the 1892 outbreak in Hamburg, Germany, about 8,600 people died. Although the city

government was generally deemed to be responsible for this outbreak their policies

went largely unchanged. This was the last serious European cholera outbreak.

practice,manypeopleweresoangered bya

homeopathbeing

in

town

that

they

pelted

the

house

witheggs. He wasbecomingdiscouragedenoughto

thinkofleaving. Hiswifesaid, "Joseph,doyoubelieve

inthetruthofhomeopathy?"Herepliedinthe

affirmative. "Then,"shesaid,"youwillstayin

Cincinnati.

Shortlyafter,whentheCholeraepidemicsweptthrough,Pultewasabletoboastofnothavinglosta

singlepatient

and

he

was

accepted

into

the

community. IntheEpidemicof1849,peoplecrowded

tohisdoorandstoodinthestreetbecausethewaiting

roomwasfull.

Suicideby

Cholera?AweekafterthepremiereofhisdeeplyemotionalSixthSymphony,Tchaikovskywasdead6November1893.Itisthoughtthathemayhaveintentionally

poisoned

himself

with

contaminatedwater.

Modest hisbrotherandbiographer

believedthat

Tchaikovsky

had

committedsuicideasduringalunchtogether,Tchaikovskypouredtapwaterfromajugintohisglassanddrankafewswallows.

SincethewaterwasnotboiledandcholerawasonceagainrampagingSt.Petersburg,Modestfeltthatthat

this

explanation

was

plausible.

The first set I desire to present to your notice was compiled by a reputable lifeInsurance company in 1874, from the death reports of the cities of Boston for 1870,

1871 and 1872; Philadelphia for 1872, the year of the great epidemic of small-pox

there; Newark for 1872 and 1873. The table presents the average death loss tonumber of patients treated during that time by the representatives of the two great

schools of medicine.

worked

carrier

WW1.OnthewayovertoEuropehehad81casesofH5N1. Allrecoveredandwerelanded. Everymanreceivedhomeopathictreatment.Oneshiplost31(nothomeopathicallytreated)ontheway.

HomeopathicProphylaxis:

Itbegan

with

Scarlet

Fever

Hahnemannsinitialforayintopreventative useofremedieswastheresultof

inductivegenius.

Duringan

outbreak

of

scarlet

fever,

three

children

of

four

in

afamily

under

his

care

becameill.Thefourth,whowasusuallythefirsttobecomeill,remainedfreefrom

disease.

HahnemannreasonedthatsincethechildhadbeentakingBelladonnaforan

problemwith

her

finger

joints,

she

was

in

some

way

protected

from

the

infection.

Soonafterward,inafamilyofeightchildrenwiththreealreadyinfectedwith

scarletfever,Hahnemannseizedtheopportunitytotesttheprophylacticpowers

ofBelladonna.

Ashe

had

hypothesized,

all

five

escaped

the

disease

despite

ongoing

exposure

to

theirsiblings. HahnemanncontinuedtomakefrequentuseofBelladonnaduring

scarletfeverepidemicswithgreatsuccess.

treatmentprotocolandbegansingingthepraisesofhomeopathicBelladonna.

Dudgeon(1820

1904)

reports

on

ten

allopaths of

this

time

who

used

prophylacticBelladonnaon1646childrenandonly123casesdeveloped. These

wereexcellentresultswhentheattackrateswererangingashighas90%atthe

time.

Hufeland,thegreatProtomedicus ofPrussiaatthetime,reviewedalltheresultsof

theprophylacticuseofBelladonnaforscarletfever. Itisgenerallyfeltthat

Hufelands subsequentdeclarationofitsefficacywouldbeakintotheSurgeon

GeneraloftheUnitedStatesrecommendingtheuseofhomeopathyinthe

treatmentof

AIDS

today.

Hufelands supportofBelladonnaasaprophylacticcarriedsomuchweightthat

thePrussiangovernmentmadeitsuseduringscarletfeverepidemicsobligatoryin

1838.

Studiesduring

smallpox

epidemics

have

also

given

some

valuableinformation.In1902,duringasmallpoxepidemicin

Iowa,Dr.Eatonreportedthat2806patientsweretreated

prophylactically withVariolinum. Ofthe547patientswho

weredefinitelyexposed,only14developedthedisease.

Overallprotectionratewas97%.

MeningitisProphylaxis

Andin1974,duringameningococcusoutbreakinBrazil,18,640patientsweregivenMeningococcinum

prophylaxiswhile

6,430

received

no

treatment.

The

treatmentgroupreported4cases. Therewere32

casesinthenotreatmentgroup(23timesmore

effectivethannotreatment).(Ref.BritishMedicalJournal,1987:2946).

PolioProphylaxis

With regard to polio, in 1850 Taylor Smith in Johannesburg, South Africa usedthe nosode Lathyrus to protect 82 people against polio no cases werereported.

Arthur Hill Grimmer MD reported that over 5,000 children receivedhomeopathic Lathyrus sativa to prevent polio with 100% efficacy and no oneexperienced any side effects to his knowledge.

There are reports of Heisfelder, in a study between 1956-58, homeopathicallyvaccinated over 6,000 children with Lathyrus, none of which contracted polio.

In 1975, Lathyrus was given to 30,000 40,000 (the number varies

depending on the researcher reporting) individuals during a Buenos Airespolio epidemic, and not one of these patients reported contracting polio.(Reported by Eizayaga)
