A large number of students from schools and colleges visited the stalls on both the days. Acharya Nagarjuna University organized an Academic Exhibition in the campus during January 1-2,2014, which evoked tremendous response from the students. In all, 46 departments in the university andaffiliated colleges participated in the exhibition, which served to elicit the latent talent and creativity in thestudents. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao inaugurated the exhibition which was presided over bythe Rector Prof. Y.P. Ramasubbaiah. Present in the Inaugural were the Registrar Prof. P. Rajasekhar, thePrincipals of the University Colleges Prof. M. Madhusudhana Rao, Prof. P.P.S. Paul Kumar, Prof. E. SreenivasaReddy, Prof. Prameela Rani and the OSD Prof. A.V. Dattatreya Rao. VISIT OF POLAND TEAM

Prof. Michal Piasecki, Professor in Physics andProf. Margaret Piasecki, Professor in Psychology of JanDlugosz University, Czestochowa, Poland, visited theUniversity on 17th March, 2014 and discussed with theUniversity authorities the possibility of collaboration withthe Departments of Physics, Biotechnology, English andBusiness Management of the University.

Prof. Michal Piasecki also delivered a talk on “Non-Linear optical properties of glass ceramic materials” in thePhysics Department on 18th March, 2014.

WATER PLANT INAUGURATION

Sri Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, M.P., inaugurateda Mineral Water Plant near the Univeristy Arts building at acost of Rs. 4.10 lakhs, sanctioned from MP LADS on 3-2-2014. Present in the programme were the Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V. Rao, the Rector Prof. Y.P.Ramasubbaiah, the Registrar Prof. P. Rajasekhar, theUniversity Engineer Sri Kumar Raja, and other staff.

Several prizes were given away to the best works in the Valedictory session of the Academic Exhibition.

ANU, ONGOLE CAMPUS National Seminar on Emerging Trends in Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics, ANU OngoleCampus, organized a National Seminar on EmergingTrends In Mathematics and Its Applications during 6-7March, 2014, sponsored by UGC & AP State Council ofHigher Education. The seminar was inaugurated by theChief Guest Prof. Y. R. Haragopal Reddy, former Vice-Chancellor of ANU. Prof. P. Rajasekhar, Registrar of ANU,presided over the function. Dr. M. Gnaneswara Reddy, theDirector of the Seminar, spoke on the theme of the seminarwhile Prof. N. Bhaskar Reddy delivered the keynoteaddress.

Prof.Y.P. Rama Subbaiah, Rector of theUniversity, presided over the Valedictory function whileProf. P.V. Arunachalam, former Vice-Chancellor ofDravidian University, delivered the valedictory address.

A UGC sponsored National Seminar on AgraianIssues and Challenges in Andhra Pradesh wasconducted on March 22-23, 2014 by the Department ofEconomics with Prof. P. Narasimha Rao, as the SeminarDirector. This seminar had eight technical tracks and 97papers were received. Prof. K. V. Rao, Vice-Chancellor,presided over the inaugural function and Sri Y.Nagendranath, President of Andhra Pradesh RythangaSamakhya, was the Chief Guest while Sri Y. SanjivRangrrass, Divisional Chief Executive, ITC Limited,delivered the keynote adders. Around 150 delegatesattended the seminar from across the country.

The Bommidala Department of Human ResourceManagement organized a National Seminar on EmergingTrends in Industrial Relations during 22-23 February2014. The Chief Guest was Dr. Bommidala Sri KrishnaMurthy while the keynote speaker was Sri RaviSrinivasan. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V. Rao presidedover the Inaugural function.

A Book entitled Empowerment of Women in India(New Strategies) edited by Dr. Nagaraju Battu with Dr.V. Tulasi Das and V.N. Nirmala as Associate Editors,was released in the Inaugural Session.

NATIONAL SEMINAR IN DEPT. OF HRM

NATIONAL SEMINAR IN JOURNALISM

The Department of Journalism and MassCommunication, Acharya Nagarjuna University,conducted a National Seminar on The ChangingDimensions of Public Relations on March 3rd, 2014.The Seminar was inaugurated by the Vice-ChancellorProf. K.V.Rao while Prof. C.K. Sardana and Dr.C.V.Narasimha Reddy were the Guests of Honour andMr.Johnson Choragudi, Regional Joint Director, was theKeynote speaker.

The Seminar was organised by Dr.G. Anita, Co-ordinator of the Department. Many academicians,Research Scholars, Students and other PR professionalsfrom different states participated in this seminar.

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

CENTRE FOR DISTANCE EDUCATIONCentre for Distance Education, Acharya Nagarjuna University, received permission from the Southern Regional

Committee, NCTE, Bangalore, in the month of March 2014 to commence M.Ed. course with 250 seats under distancemode from the academic year 2014-15.

National Seminar on the "Status of Tribal Womenin India"

DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES

The Dept. of Environmental Sciences, ANU,organised a National Seminar on Renewable Energies,Ecosystems and Sustainable EnvironmentalManagement on 20-21 February, 2014. Prof. K. ViyyannaRao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU, in his inaugural address,delineated the efforts made by the University to utilise solarenergy. The Chief Guest was Sri E. Narasimhulu, IFS, ChiefConservator of Forests (Planning & Extension) Guntur, andthe Guest of Honour was Sri G. Haranadh Babu, Project

Director, NEDCAP, Guntur. Prof. G.R. K. Naidu, SriVenkateswara University, Tirupati, Prof. C. Rambabu,Principal, University College of Sciences, Prof. E.U.B. Reddiand Prof. Z. Vishnuvardhan, also spoke on the occasion.The valedictory function was presided over by Prof. Y.P.Ramasubbaiah, Rector, ANU, while Sri M. Anjaneyulu,Principal Controller of Defence Accounts, Kolkata, was theChief Guest. Sri Anjaneyulu honoured the members of theUppalapadu Bird Protection Committee. Dr. A.V.V.S. Swamywas the Director and Dr. P. Brahmaji Rao was theOrganising Secretary of the Seminar.

Workshop on ScienceThe Dept. of Environmental Sciences conducted

an interactive Workshop on Science and Society incollaboration with Delhi Science Forum and Jana VignanaVedika on 7th March, 2014. Dr. Prabir Purkayastha,Chairman of Delhi Science Forum, moderated theworkshop. Co-ordinator of the Dept. Dr. A.V.V.S. Swamy,Dr. Suresh, Chairman, Jana Vignana Vedika, Guntur Districtand Dr. P. Brahmaji Rao, participated in the workshop.

National Seminar on “NGOs and Civil Society inthe Era of Globalization”

The Department of Sociology and Social Workorganized a UGC National Seminar on NGOs and CivilSociety in the Era of Globalization, in ANU Campusduring 18th -19th March, 2014. The Chief Guest was Dr.Arun Kumar K. Mohanty, Director, AMG IndiaInternational, Chilakaluripet, while Keynote Address wasgiven by Prof. R. D. Sampath Kumar, Dept. of Social Work,Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and the President ofthe Seminar was Prof. Y.P. Rama Subbaiah, Rector, ANU.More than 150 participants from various Universities,affiliated Colleges, NGO’s attended the Seminar andpresented 84 papers. The Chief Guest for the valedictorywas Prof. P. Rajasekhar, Registrar, ANU, and thevaledictory address was given by Prof. C. VenkataChelam Periyar, University Salem. Dr. M. Trimurthi Rao,Coordinator, Dept. of Sociology and Social Work was theDirector of the Seminar.

Sambasiva Rao, Dean,Faculty of Social Sciences presided over the Inauguralprogramme of the Seminar. Sri Devara Vasu, Special Guest,delivered the lead lecture while delegates of several statespresented the papers. Dr. M. Trimurthi Rao, was the Directorof the Seminar.

INSPIRE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMBUDDHIST STUDIES SEMINAR

The Centre for Mahayana Buddhist Studiesorganized a UGC Sponsored National Seminar onBuddhist Applied Philosophy during January 30-31, 2014in the campus. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. Viyyanna Raopresided over the Inaugural session while the Chief Guestwas Prof. P.R. Bhat, IIT Mumbai. Also present were Dr.Arun Kumar Mohanty, Director, AMG International,Chilakaluripet and Sri Gadde Mangaiah, the Rector Prof.Y.P. Ramasubbaiah, the Coordinator of the Centre Dr.L.Udayakumar, staff and students of the University.

ANU College of Sciences conducted INSPIREInternship programme during 29th March-2nd April 2014.150 intermediate students who scored more than 90% asper the guidelines from different colleges had registeredfor the programme. In the inaugural function of the 5 dayProgramme Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU,Prof. Y.R. Haragopal Reddy, former Vice-Chancellor, ANU,Prof. Y.P. Ramasubbaiah, Rector, ANU, were present. TheKeynote Address was delivered by Prof. G. RajaramiReddy, Professor of Zoology and Vice-Chancellor, V.S.University, Nellore, on “Trends in Neuro Science”.

NANO – TECHNOLOGY SEMINAR

The Department of Nano-Technology organized aUGC National Workshop on Advances in MaterialProcessing during 28th-29th March 2014 in the universitycampus. Prof. N. Veeraiah presided over the inauguralfunction graced by Prof. K.V. Rao Vice-Chancellor, ANUand Prof. Y. R. Haragopal Reddy, former Vice-Chancellor,ANU. The Resource Persons for the Workshop were Prof.S. Suryanarayana Rao, Dept. of Physics, IIT, Hyderabad;Dr. I. Sreekanth, Scientist, DRDO, Hyderabad; and Prof.N. Veeraiah, Dept. of Physics, HCU, Hyderabad. Dr. M.Rami Reddy, Co-ordinator, Department of Nano-Technologywas the Convener for the Workshop attended byresearchers and students from various departments andorganizations.

BIOTECHNOLOGY SEMINARDepartment of Biotechnology conducted a National

Seminar & Workshop on Genomics and Proteomics: AnInformatics Approach on 24th& 25th March 2014. Vice-Chancellor Prof K.V.Rao, inaugurated the seminar and Key-note address was delivered by Prof. C. Suresh Kumar fromSri Krishna Devaraya University. Director of the Seminar &Workshop Dr.A.Krishna Satya presented the theme of theWorkshop which had four technical sessions.

Acharya Nagarjuna University organized the YouthFestival in the campus during January 7-9, 2014 in whichstudents from more than 50 colleges of Guntur andPrakasam districts took part. Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V.Rao inaugurated the Youth Festival. The Chief Guest wasSri P.V. Sunil Kumar, Inspector General of Police (IG),Guntur Range, advised the students to set high goals inorder to reach good positions as per the expectations oftheir parents.

The Dept. of Environmental Sciences of the ANUCollege of Sciences celebrated the World Forest Day on21st March 2014 in the campus. The keynote speaker wasDr. T. ANU COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

MOTR ProjectISRO SHAR has sanctioned a prestigious project to ANU on designing a “Multi Object Tracking Radar (MOTR)”

to be used in space and defense applications.

ANU has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the SDSC-SHAR to design the MOTR,becoming the first university in the country to have a tie-up with the SDSC-SHAR in designing indigenous Radar. India isthe fourth nation in the world, after U.S.A, Japan & Germany to design MOTRs.

“Swecha” organization conducted a national symposiumon “Usage of Free Software” on March 6th-7th for Engineeringstudents in the campus. A member from Microsoft companyaddressed the students about internet security, androidprogramme etc,

Prof. Dhruv Raina of JNU, New Delhi, delivered a lecture under the aegis of Prof.K.Satchidananda Murty Centre for Studies in Afro-Asian Philosophies on the theme “Openingthe Pandora’s Box of Social Theory” on January 2nd, 2014. He explained how Needham'stheory changed the very paradigm of writing the history of science. The programmme is thethird in the series organized by the Centre which was presided over by Prof.K.V.Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Prof.M.S.S.Pandian of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, delivered a talkon "Caste and Democracy" under Occasional Lecture Series organised by Prof.K.Satchidananda Murty Centre for Studies in Afro-Asian Philosophies on March 24th, 2014.The old understanding of the relationship between caste and democracy as beingirreconcilably opposed to each other needs to be looked at with a critical eye, saidDr.Pandian. The meeting was chaired by Prof.K.V.Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Prof.A.Rama Murthy, delivered the third Memorial Lecture in memory of late Prof.K.Satchidananda Murty organized by Acharya Nagarjuna University on January 24th, 2014.The concept of the Brahman as elucidated by both western and eastern traditions, if properlyinterpreted, can easily remove divisive and separatist tendencies prevailing among thepeople, he said, in a well-attended meeting, chaired by Prof.K.V.Rao, Vice-Chancellor ofthe university.

Considering the remarkable Sports background of theUniversity and the available Sports Infrastructure, theNSNIS, Patiala, has chosen ANU as a centre for the conductof the courses.

National Seminar on Physical Education

The ANU College of Physical Education conducted aUGC Sponsored National Seminar on the Emerging Trendsin Physical Education & Sports Sciences on 11th & 12th

February 2014 with the collaboration of National Associationof Physical Education and Sports Sciences (NAPESS). Forthe Inaugural Prof. Y. Kishore, Dean & Director of PhysicalEducation, ANU acted as a Chairman, and Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU, as Chief Guest whileProf.P.Chinnapa Reddy, President, NAPESS, and Sri M.V.Pardhasarathi, Deputy General Manager, Andhra Bank,Guntur Zone were Special Invitees. The Rector, theRegistrar, Prof. A.V. Dattatreya Rao, OSD, ANU, Sri. N.V.Narasimham, Senior Branch Manager, Andhra Bank, ANU,and others were present. 285 participants attended thisconference and 153 papers were presented.
