Driver is a word we hear routinely anymore as we struggle to keep our electronics up to date so our computers don’t abandon us when we’re reading the latest on Justin Beeper or that beautiful, young woman with the substance prob-lems. (Take your pick.)

The Merriam-Webster app on my iPhone lists many defini-tions of driver. My favorite: “a mechanical piece for imparting motion to another piece”. (I get that.)

So the other day a woman walks into makeitsew (not a joke) and says, “I’m in the market for several machines. Continued The marketplace is an evolving place and the consum-ing public’s acceptance and use of the Internet is overwhelming but there are interactions that can’t be brought to your house by UPS. Technical people can put educational videos on line but “face time” (the ability of someone knowledgeable to see what you’re struggling with or how the machine is behaving) is a three dimen-sional concept that doesn’t translate to two dimensions easily.

If this shopper was savvy enough to realize that shops like makeit-sew actually possess useful knowledge worth availing herself of, how would she have us continue to be at her disposal when she needs help if she makes her purchase on the Internet? The funds she might have brought (to her local 3D), pay for: rent, salaries, insurance, maintenance, travel expense to educational events, stock, etc. (You sometimes call us “job makers”.)

It’s just market economics and you’re driving. …“Clean the windshield?..Ya need to see where yer headed...!”
