Students offered the Mayor suggestions to improve to the city, including enhanced training for police officers in mental health crisis response, increased investment in snow removal services, and offering more activities for teens and families. The Peaceful School Bus program works to change the social dynamics on the school bus by building strong, positive relationships among students and by teaching students to take responsibility for their “bus route group” and what happens on the bus. As part of the Peaceful School Bus program, elementary school students throughout the KCSD recently had a special meet and greet with their bus drivers! By fostering a sense of community and identity among bus route members, students are empowered to cultivate a positive, peaceful atmosphere on the bus. Estudiantes de KHS se reúnen con el alcalde Noble

El alcalde de Kingston, Steve Noble, se reunió con los estudiantes de la escuela secundaria Kingston High School (KHS) para analizar los desafíos que enfrenta la ciudad en 2017. Los estudiantes le hicieron sugerencias para mejorar la ciudad, entre ellas una capacitación mejorada para oficiales de la policía sobre cómo responder a las crisis de salud mental, una mayor inversión en los servicios para quitar la nieve, y la propuesta de incorporar más actividades para adolescentes y familias.

Reilly Hart, del jardín de infantes Edson, con su conductora de autobús, Ann Lawrence. La Sra. Lawrence conduce un autobús en el Distrito Escolar de la Ciudad de Kingston (Kingston City School District, KCSD) desde hace 48 años.

El programa Peaceful School Bus (Paz en el autobús escolar) se esfuerza por cambiar la dinámica social en los autobuses escolares al crear relaciones sólidas y positivas entre los estudiantes, así como al enseñarles a asumir la responsabilidad de su “grupo de ruta de autobús” y de lo que sucede en el mismo. Como parte del programa Peaceful School Bus, los estudiantes de escuelas primarias de todo el KCSD recientemente tuvieron una reunión especial donde se encontraron con sus conductores de autobús.

Si fomentamos un sentido de comunidad e identidad entre los compañeros de ruta, los estudiantes serán capaces de crear una atmósfera positiva y pacífica en el autobús. La directora de transporte, Judy Falcon, destacó cómo las reuniones fomentan una conexión entre el hogar, el autobús y la escuela. “Las reuniones de autobuses son una buena manera de demostrar que todos trabajamos juntos; la escuela y el autobús son parte de lo mismo”.
