The Urban Dictionary defines it as a list of things to do before you die. It comes from the term “kicked the bucket.” Maybe you saw the movie starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. I searched Bucket List on Pinterest and found lots of examples. I’m pretty certain if I would search other social media sites I would find even more. What I found most interesting about bucket lists is the extreme in what folks have on their lists and that people have also created categories. World Peace. More Family Time. Eating Cake Without My Hands. Holiday Bucket List. Summer Bucket List. Travel Bucket List. Just like New Year’s resolutions, it seems most people have a list to say, “Yep! I have a list.” It’s not that I believe you shouldn’t have a bucket list but I think people are missing the point. The most important part of having a bucket list is to make it real and do something with it. Everyone should have dreams and aspirations and sometimes you need to have a few “go big or go home” but let’s not forget to have some that are attainable! It’s good for the soul. With that said, “May the new year bring you an abundance of amazing opportunities, beautiful moments & joyful experiences. May your positive actions & attitude inspire others. May you be brave enough to take on and overcome rewarding challenges. May you find yourself in high spirits & excellent health. May you love with all your heart & find peace in even the most turbulent of times. May the love you give always find its way back to you multiplied. And may you forever be filled with the hope & strength necessary to make your dreams a reality.” -Zero Dean- Have a terrific month and cheers to a fantastic new year! Welcome back to Culinary Corner

W ell here we are, another year gone. 2016 is coming in bright, shiny, and new! I hope eve-ryone had a great time with friends, family, and staff over the holiday season! I’m looking forward to another year with all of you. I hope that it’s going to be happy and healthy new

year. Looking forward to January’s drink of the month - if you have any ideas by all means please share with me or any of the culinary team. As a reminder, if you borrow plates, cups or any other ta-bleware from our kitchen please bring them back or give them to housekeeping so that they can re-turn them for you. I would like to take this time to thank all who have helped me over the last year make the culinary department successful. I appreciate my staff who have helped with the truck, to those who help bring food from one level to another, staff who helped with the cookies for our events and those that have been helping to do our extra winter cleanings. I would like to thank my staff personally for pulling together and getting things done and showing that we can be a team. Thank you to all the residents who have made me feel welcome. I enjoy when you bring me your ideas. Chatting with you makes my days happy and eventful. We will be recognizing different departments each month. For exam-ple January is server’s month so please let your server know you appreciate them taking care of all your dining needs. Remember give a smile and brighten someone’s day!

Thank you, Angie Duckworth the Culinary Coordinator

Lush Green Grass & Brown Muddy Cars

O ne of my goals is to ensure we have a beautiful lawn the residents can enjoy. This year, be-cause of all the heavy rainfall, the ground is softer than normal. My concern is that if we park on the grass the ground will be soft and muddy and your car may get stuck. Therefore, I

am encouraging everyone to please park in the designated parking spots. That being said, if the parking lot is full you may park on the grass as a temporary solution. You may have noticed we posted some metal poles along the side of the roadways. This is to help the snow plows determine where the edge of our road is and to direct them when the snow finally does come. The snow and rain should help the winterizer we put on the grass this past fall. I’m looking forward to warmer days and enjoying the lush, green grass!

Thank you, Scott Franklin the Maintenance Coordinator

Happy New Year!

I can’t believe that it is 2016 already. Where has the time gone??? This month I will be working a lot with the changes with Medicaid and I want everyone to rest assure that we will make sure any effect it has on our residents with Medicaid will

be minimal. I am also working on ideas for our Dare to Dream program so if there is a dream you would like to see fulfilled please come let me know about it so we can see what Garnett Place can do to make your dream come true! Tara Malcolm, Assistant Manager

New Year’s Resolutions: More Programs, More Celebration

I have a lot of big goals I’d like to achieve in the New Year. My first one is to get more family members involved in our online program called Sm:)e (pronounced smile). This program is a great way to connect with our community and your loved ones. It shows a full calendar view of

activities, allows you to communicate over a messenger service, and I am able to upload photos from our activities. Please check it out and see what your loved ones have been up to recently. To get signed up please email me at [email protected] and include the name of your family mem-ber in the message. Another big plan for the year is to expand our planned programming in our Memory Care Unit. Our Universal Health Care Workers do lots of spontaneous activities daily with these residents, and they are fantastic. My hope is that by doing a variety of planned programs we can bring them new programs and a bit of a routine. My personal resolution is to have a wonderful year. I make this my resolution every year, and it’s worked out pretty well for me so far.

January also brings us a variety of new Holidays to celebrate. January’s is known as: Be Kind to Food Servers, Walk Your Dog, Hot Tea and Hot Soup month.

The first week is known for its “the Celebration of life” party. Other January Holiday’s we’ll celebrate are: Women’s Day, Elvis’s Birthday, National Nothing Day,

National Popcorn Day, Squirrel Appreciation Day, National Pie Day, Chocolate Cake Day, Fun at Work Day, and National Puzzle Day. Check out Sm:)e to see the date these holidays fall on.

Kari Santos, Life Enrichment Coordinator

Thank you for a wonderful year,

We can’t wait to see what the New Year will bring.

- From all of us here at Garnett Place.

Dare To Dream: A special program here at Garnett Place is our Dare to Dream program. This program focuses on individuals and fulfilling their dreams or allowing them to participate in activities they used to en-joy.

For Charles H., he enjoys a nice dinner out. Our staff treated him to lunch out at Zins. It was a delectable meal and even the res-taurant staff got excited about the program. From what we’ve been told, dessert was the best (and most decadent part). A special thank you to the staff at Zins who made the lunch a truly amazing experience. Thank you for letting us “treat you” Charles.

If you have any ideas on how we can make a dream of your loved one come true, please email [email protected]
