ABRAHAM LINCOLN MEMORIAL

HOSPITAL UNVEILS CORNER-STONE

Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital

(ALMH) in Lincoln, Il celebrated an-

other milestone in the construction of its replacement hospital with a dedica-

tion ceremony. This starts the public

phase of the “Preserve the Mission” capital campaign. Preserve the Mission

has raised $4.17 million or 76% of it’s

goal to ensure that the hospital has the facilities and equipment needed to

provide quality health care to the next

generation.

Several large donations have been re-ceived, one of them being from a for-

mer Ashland High School Alumni.

School teachers John and Helen Ry-man remembered the hospital through

their wills. Their gifts totaled more

than $365,000. John and Helen were Ashland residents until 1950 when

John became coach of Lincoln High

School and where he retired. John

Ryman died in 2007 and Helen in 1994.

ALMH mission campaign honored their donation by naming the new cardiac

rehab area of the hospital in the name.

A-C Natural Helpers Visit Walker’s in Virginia

Seventeen students from the A-C Central Natural Helpers organization traveled to Walkers Nursing Home in Virginia, Il on December 8th. In the picture to the top: Jenna Thompson, Chad Homer and Cameron Hager are calling a game of Santa Bingo. The photo in the middle pictures Lauren Pfaffe with her Grandpa Kelly and Courtney Bedka in the background visiting with another resident. The photo to the bottom shows Madalyn Allen marking

bingo with a resident. After the group sing-a-long and bingo game, Drew Hoff-

man, Madalyn Allen, Maggie Allen and Gracie Johnson sang a beautiful rendition of Winter Wonderland. Leigh Ann Allen provided accompaniment on the piano during the student performances as well as assisting with background musical entertainment. Santa brought in his red sack filled with gifts for the students to distribute. In this slow economy, Santa had some help as the students hosted a bake sale to help him fund the presents. Santa said that he had to hurry back to the North Pole as Christmas was fast approaching. Other members in attendance not pictured were: Lindsey

Birdsell, Courtney Cave, Ross Cloninger, Jordan Keyes, and April Leinberger.

Brandon Eskew wins 3rd place trophy as he is the third

generation of racing go karts.

Starting in the 1960’s Brandon’s grandpa, Randy Es-

kew won many checkered flags in go kart racing. In

the 1980’s Shawn, Shannon, and Shad followed in

their dad’s footsteps as they won several checkered

flags as well. In the 1990’s Anthony Eskew carried on

the family tradition as he also won

several checkered flags in his own go kart.

November 28th, 2009, Brandon Eskew entered his 1st

race at the Coliseum at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

After a lots of long nights and a lot hard work, the kart

was finally ready to be raced. Brandon’s dad, Shannon

raced the same kart in the adult class and Brandon

raced in the kids class where he won 3rd place. The

owner of the kart, Shawn Eskew was very proud of

him.

A second go kart owned by Shawn was also raced in

the adult class by a good friend, Mike Myers of Spring-

field.

Special thanks to: Paul Cambell, S & M Kart Supply,
