Currently, yard waste will be accepted on the first Saturday of each month at the Wells. The Wells are located in Morgan County. Take Highway 123 to Creed Road, turn right and then right again at the red fence. There is a long lane and at the end are the Wells. PORTA student capacity: ~1,400. Student population in a consolidated school district: ~1,500. The Chandlerville facility would almost certainly close immediately!
PORTA student capacity: ~1,400. Five-year projection for student population in a consolidated school district: ~1,375. How long do you think the Ashland facility will remain open in this economy?
Without local schools, what chance do our communities have to attract new people? What happens to community spirit, home values, and business services?
A-C Central population: ~2,900. PORTA population: ~6,900. Which community do you think will control the curriculum, spending, and policy in a consolidated school district?
What happens to 75 A-C Central jobs and $5.5 million in locally controlled funds?
Schools may consolidate to resolve academic issues. Why consolidate when our high school just received national recognition from U.S. News & World Report?
Schools may consolidate to resolve financial issues. Why consolidate when the Illinois State Board of Education gave A-C Central Financial Recognition status and PORTA Financial Early Warning status?
Why are most members of the current school board so insistent on pursuing consolidation? First Virginia, now PORTA. Who’s next? Why be so quick to give up local control, less bureaucracy, shorter bus trips, and smaller class sizes?

"WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD"
The 8th graders from A-C Central Mid-
dle School attended the “Welcome to
the Real World” event on Tuesday,
March 19th, 2013 in Jacksonville. The
event, organized by the University of
Illinois Extension Office, is designed to
help students learn how to budget their
money in real life situations. They
choose a profession and what type of
car and house they want to purchase.
Then they are faced with cost of living
expenses: buying groceries, paying for
insurance, etc., and even some unex-
pected expenses throughout the day.
They must write a check for every ex-
pense. At the end of the day, they want
to have a positive balance in their
checking account. The students did a
great job and learned some valuable life
lessons.
IHSA Solo Ensemble Contest 2013
Congratulations goes out to the member of the A-C
Central Band who participated in the 2013 IHSA
solo ensemble contest on Saturday March 2. This
contest tests the individual
student in their playing abilities. A student pre-
pares a solo and, with a piano accompanist, this
student performs for a judge and is given comments
and the appropriate medal. Several students from
A-C chose to participate. The participants and the
results are as follows:
Sebrena Reek – flute solo – I
Ryan Woodard – tenor sax solo – I
Ty Kesselring – bari sax solo – I
Cerys Boston – trumpet solo – I
Allyson Quick – French horn solo – I
Hoaby Hoagland – tuba solo
Allyson Quick – piano solo – I
Percussion ensemble–Ty Kesselring, Jackson Allen,
Cerys Boston, Allyson Quick, Daerial DeGroot, Alex
Brue, Maddie Elder, Caseelynn Johnston & Breann
Knapp – I
Congratulations all – GREAT JOB! Special thanks go
out to Cindy Bobbitt for her talents on the piano.
Your time is very much appreciated.
To Ashland Village residents,
As the April 9th voting date nears, it will mark the beginning of a transition in Ashland to a new vil-
lage president. That process will be complete on May 8th, when my replacement will be sworn in.
I would like to thank the citizens of Ashland for the honor of representing you for the last twelve years. It has been one of my greatest pleasures to serve you. There have been many fine people I
have worked with over the last twelve years, including citizens, board members and village employ-
ees. My first term involved much learning, and I want to especially thank Doc Uhland, Jim Noel,
Joette Thornley, Mary Ann Edwards and Alicia Hager for helping so much during that period.
There have been several large accomplishments, many small ones, and two more (construction of
the flood diversion and turn lanes at Brandt's and Dollar General) that will be finished this summer after I leave office. Although not every project has had unanimous support, we have had a consen-
sus on every project. Your concerns and support have been important to the board, and I encourage
everyone to continue letting the board know your feelings. One of the biggest challenges facing us in
some decisions is the fact that some of these projects will have an impact in the community for
twenty, thirty, or more years into the future. It takes a good crystal ball, along with input from many
people, to make the correct decision.
Other projects remain to be started and finished, and the ever changing politics in Springfield will
continue to challenge the financial abilities of small towns across Illinois. I encourage everyone to
participate in community affairs, whether they be at the village, school, library, youth, or any other
level you have an interest in.
Thank You,
Dave Handy
A-C Central Middle School Math-A-Thon Raises over $2,300 The middle school students at A-C Central (grades 5-8) have raised over $2,300 for the children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. This is the third largest amount the school has ever raised! This hospital treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases, regardless of financial need, and conducts research to find cures. There were 48 students participating this year. That is outstanding for a school of our size. Over the last 14 years, A-C Central has raised over $20,000 for this great cause. The following students raised $125: Addie Boston and Paul Price. She is getting the alien flexible light and he is getting the wooden game set. They are each getting a certificate, t-shirt, and a backpack. The following students raised $75 up to $125: MacKenzie Rash $111, Ellen Force $105, Abigail Vandenbergh $101, Logan DeFord $100, Lace Sweet $89, Brittany Kennedy $76.20, Kaitlin Adkins $75, Brock Reid $75, Skylar Arthalony $75. They will receive a certificate, t-shirt, and a backpack. The following students raised $35 up to $75: Kaileigh Rash $65, Julianna Allen $64, Cheyenne Carter $61, Claire Greer $60, Alex Carter $51, Sara DeGroot $50, Austin Eskew $46, Braden Eilers $45, Brock Pettit $45, Lexi Carlock $45, Quinlan Mahoney $40, Jon Reed $38, Hannah Carlock $36, Brock Bruss $36, Tyler Minor $36, Kyle Harris $36, JayCee Harris $35, Grace Danner $35, Taylor Danner $35, Tanner Stephens $35, Allison Roberts $35, Kirby Cowman $35, Nataley Minor $35, Chloe Rynders $35. They will receive a certificate and t-shirt. These students raised less than $35: Johnny Carwile $30, Blake Marr $25, Gabe Carlock $25, Katie Leinberger $21, Shelby Donaldson $20, Hannah Ratliff $20, Cheyenne Kesselring $20, JT Donnan $20, Bailie Devlin $13, Destinee Jones $12, Abigail Critchelow $5, Grace Hellmeyer $4.23, Chenoa Butler $4. They will receive a certificate. All students who participated receive extra credit in math and have Casey’s pizza for lunch at school.
Thanks to everyone who has made a contribution.
You are truly making a difference in the lives of children around the world.

Ashland High School/A-C Central High School Alumni
Association
It’s that time of year!! Pull out those yearbooks and come join your classmates and friends from high school. We’ll be
holding our annual alumni banquet on Saturday, May 25, 2013 in the Pete Gutmann Memorial Gymnasium. This year, we
are inviting graduates of A-C Central High School to join us. All alums and teachers of both Ashland High School and A-C
Central High School are invited to attend. Classes honored this year will be 1938, 1943, 1948, 1953, 1958, 1963, 1968,
1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013.
It’s going to be a wonderful evening! We’ll have a social hour from 5:00 – 6:00 pm with dinner to follow. Because the
silent auction items were such a hit last year, we’ve gathered even more great gifts, certificates and experiences for you
to bid on! Just a few of the items available will be a Cardinal baseball experience, a $500 gift certificate to Cedar Creek
Resort in Missouri, 2 hours of limo service and many more!
If you are interested in 50/50 tickets, please indicate the number you wish to purchase on the reservation form and your
name will be entered into the drawing.
At last year’s banquet, we announced that will be reinstating the Alumni Hall of Fame. We’ve enclosed a nomination
form which details the criterion for this honor. Think about those people that you’ve known and respected for all that
they give to society…take a moment and share their story! We will be honoring alumni from both Ashland High School
and AC Central High School.
This evening is a great event and a wonderful opportunity to relive our shared memories and catch up with friends and
teachers. We look forward to having you join us!
Please return reservations by May 10, 2013 to Ashland Alumni Association, PO Box 251, Ashland, IL 62612 or
