Our Super Sundays, occasional lessons, and regular an- nouncements will be focused on building a closer relationship with our Heavenly Father. To help us reach this goal, there will be four lessons to learn each quarter. For this quarter our lesson is entitled, To Know the Father Is to Know the Son. Along with these lessons, there will be challenges throughout the year, one per quarter. For this quarter, the challenge the elders set forth for us is: Read the Gospels in 60 Days The Gospel writings of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John unfold the story of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. If we want to know God, we must know His Son. If we want to know Jesus, we must read about Him, study on Him, and meditate on Him. We cannot claim to have a rela- tionship with God if we do not know all about the life and teachings of Christ. When the disciples were asking Jesus to show them the Father, He said, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father”, John 14:9. Then He said to them, “The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works”, John 14:10. To evaluate where we are in our faith, the elders would also like each of us to take a Christ-like survey before we begin our reading. Then they ask that we take it again at the end of our reading to see if we have made any changes in our life. Themes, challenges, ad lessons are only as good as the applications. Jesus again said to His disciples in John 14:12, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” So Jesus was saying whatever He did, we need to imitate. If we don't read what He did, we won’t know what to do. Did you catch what else He said? Jesus said that since He is longer here in the flesh, what we do is greater than what He did! Wow! That has tremen- dous implication for us! Certainly this passage is not saying we can be greater than Christ in what He accomplished; but to the extent of reaching the world through generations to come, it will be greater than what Christ accomplished! So just reading the Gospel accounts will not be enough. We must learn and grow by applying these great truths to our everyday life. We appreciate the elders for their vision in challenging the congregation, and leading us in the pursuit of our Father. With these goals in mind, it will truly be an exciting year! The elders urge everyone, members and non-members alike, to take this challenge! Please sign up in the vestibule by Sunday, January 20. Reading schedules will be on the counter in the back of the audito- rium and in the vestibule. As you come each Sunday, simply go back to the sign-up sheet and mark off that you completed your reading for that week. Our progress will monitored on a board in front of the auditorium. The Christ-like surveys will also be in the auditorium and vestibule. It’s all up to you! Will you take the challenge? Kevin
