Jamberoo Public School TERM 4 WEEK 2 2019 NEWSLETTER PH: 4236 0173 FAX: 4236 0633 Strive and Succeed Email: [email protected] Website: www.jamberoo-p.school.nsw.edu.au Preschool Visits This week the school has very much enjoyed having our future Kindergarten come up and visit us in classrooms. Lots of fun and collaborative activities have been conducted, allowing our newest the opportunity to orientate themselves with the school and develop relationships with our current students. We look forward to seeing them next Tuesday at the first official orientation session. Tardiness Over the past few weeks of this term and the end of last term there have been quite a few students in the school who are regularly turning up late. School commences at 9am, it is vitally important that students are at school by that time to ensure their learning and the learning of others is not disrupted. It is understandable that on occasion students have appointments booked or occasionally run late due to unforseen circumstances. However, regular tardiness is not acceptable. Please ensure that your child is at school by 9am and that running late is a seldom event rather than a regular one. Canberra Excursion Next week, Stage 3 will be heading off to Canberra for three days of educational enrichment and fun. Next Wednesday morning at 7:00am the Stage 3 students will be heading off. Students will be returning to school at 6:10pm on the Friday night. Please ensure that all students are collected from the school by either yourself, a fellow family member or friend. The expectation is that students who are not attending camp are at school for all three days next week. Social Intelligence This term the Principal’s Award will be handed out to students who demonstrate the skill of social intelligence. Social Intelligence is the ability to get along well with others, and to get them to cooperate with you, also known as ‘people skills.’ It includes an awareness of situations and the social dynamics that govern them, and a knowledge of interaction styles and strategies that can help a person achieve his or her objectives in dealing with others. It is a skill the school believes is very important for our students to develop throughout their time here and into the future. So far this term there have been two students who have been acknowledged for their high levels of social intelligence: Romany Janssens Ollie Poole Who will be receiving a Principal’s Award for social intelligence at tomorrow’s assembly? Kindergarten Orientation Next Tuesday 29th October is when the first Kindergarten Orientation session kicks off. The session will run from 2-3pm, with preschool students participating in fun and engaging activities with our senior students and our new parents taking part in an information session in the hall. The school is very excited to welcome the Kindergarten students of 2020 to our wonderful school this term for the orientation sessions which run for three weeks:

Tuesday 29th October, 2pm Tuesday 5th November, 2pm Tuesday 12th November, 2pm

Gold Day The whole school is excited about Gold Day which will occur on Tuesday 17th December. It is very pleasing to see how many students have already achieved ‘gold’ and we are only just into Term 4. It just goes to show what amazing and well-behaved students we have at Jamberoo Public School. The decision has been made that Gold Day this year will be a trip to the movies for students in Kindergarten to Year 3 and a session at AMF Ten Pin Bowling Albion Park Rail for the students in Year 4 to Year 6. After the activities, the whole school will come together to have a picnic lunch. The K-3 students will be travelling by bus to Hoyts at Warrawong and will be watching the movie The Queen’s Corgi. The children will receive a popcorn and a drink. The students in Years 4 to 6 will travel by bus to AMF Ten Pin Bowling Albion Park Rail where they will participate in 2 hours of fun and thrills. Gold Day will be a well-deserved reward for our wonderful students who achieve gold in 2019! The cost of the day is ‘free’. The students will just need to bring their lunch, recess and drink with them on the day. A permission note for parents will be sent home via Care Monkey in the near future. If you will be away, and/or your child will not be attending Gold Day, please contact Kate in the front office so the school can determine final numbers attending.

The Baha'i Community of Kiama "The Baha'i Community of Kiama warmly invites members of the school community to join us in celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the birth of the Bab, one of the Founders of the Baha'i Faith. The event will be held in the Dunstan Room at the Sebel Harbourside, on Sunday the 3rd of November. The adults program will run from 11am to 12 noon, followed by a light lunch, and will include a presentation on some of the history and teachings of the Baha'i Faith. This will be followed by a children's program from 2pm to 4pm on the theme of "Peace and Unity", where participants will be treated to a special dance performance by some of the youth from the Shellharbour Junior Youth, and will include storytelling and fun activities on the theme of peace. We would be delighted if you would join us for one or both of these events and bring any family and friends who would like to attend. Your RSVP to [email protected] would be appreciated so that we can arrange catering. For further information please contact Kathryn Humphries on 0438443051."

NSW Group

Since 1934 the Australian Air League has been teaching young boys and girls nationwide all about aviation, while helping them develop important life skills like leadership, discipline, self confidence and teamwork. When you join the league you will make new friends and take part in fun and exciting activities, on the ground and in the air. Each week you will attend your local squadron where you will learn valuable skills and take part in fun and interesting activities and classes. Some of our classes include Meteorology, Navigation, Photography and Community Service. Squadrons also attend training camps, sport and recreational days, flying experiences and ceremonial drill. We welcome girls and boys from the age of 8 years old from all different cultures and backgrounds. Parents and families are welcome to support or even join their local squadron as a volunteer. All adult members and volunteers are Working with Children Checked. The Australian Air League is running both a fun and educational programme that is making fine citizens out or our young Australians.
