IVMA Executive Board Update

District Meetings

We would like to hold meetings in all IVMA Districts.

O We have 5 districts that have not held a district meeting (Districts 1,3,5,8 and 20)

O District 15 has held two meetings in the last 2 years

O District 8 (Dr. Whitford) is scheduling a meeting for Oct 1, 2013

O District 20 (Dr. Fuller) is scheduling a meeting for Nov 5, 2013 to coincide with the SE Iowa VMA Meeting

O We will need volunteers to schedule district meetings

Future Conferences IVMA has both the ISU Scheman Center and Prairie Meadows in Altoona on

tentative hold for the next 3 years for the September annual meetings and

February Winter Conference dates.

When an event is being held on tentative hold and the venue gets a request

from another party to use the space for the same date, the first party is required

to either commit to the venue for that date or release it to the 2nd party. We

were required to make a commitment for February 2015. Therefore, the

conference schedule for the next few years is as follows:

Governor's Visit to CVM On Monday, May 20, Governor Terry Branstad signed a gubernatorial proclamation announcing 2013 as the “Year of the Veterinarian” at the ISU CVM marking the 150-year anniversary of the AVMA. Dr. Johnson and Dr. Wheeler both attended this event.

Dean Nolan and Dr. Pettit both did a great job thanking the Governor for his support of the IVMA, the ISU CVM and the veterinary profession.

After the ceremony, Governor Branstad toured the small and large animal hospitals, plus the Veterinary Diagnostic Lab.

5/11 Dr. Pettit administered oath to new ISU CVM Grads

5/13 Received 150,000 Green Tags in IVMA office

5/14 Met with CVM concerning Governor’s Visit

5/15 Sports and Field Day Committee met (Sports & Field day 9/5 at Otter Creek in

Ankeny)

5/16 Met with summer intern Maria Sjodin

5/21 Dr. Wheeler and Maria Sjodin spent the day at I-35 Schools Career Fair

5/30 Board of Vet Med – Dr. Johnson attended (alternating months with Dr. Wheeler)

Legislative Committee and Executive Board will need to

meet to discuss several issues:

O Scope of practice issues

O Competition from non-profits

O State wide spay/neuter fund

O Legislation regulating crematoriums

O Commercial kennel regulations

O Administrative Rules affecting the Practice Act
