ROME – ASSISI – PERUGIA Enjoy a leisurely start to the day before we begin our journey along the backroads, our route whisks us away to the awe-inspiring town of Assisi. We marvel at the towering 13th century Basilica of St Francis and lose ourselves in the lanes of this medieval village. Then travel through the Umbrian countryside for a warm welcome in Perugia the cultural and artistic centre of Italy. Meals included: Breakfast & dinner

PERUGIA – SIENA – TUSCANY Introducing Siena: a gorgeous Gothic city bursting with history and fabulous architecture. After exploring the old centre, we venture deep into the verdant Tuscan landscape. Enjoy views of hills circled with vineyards and olive groves and crowned with medieval villages. At the heart of it all: our idyllic villa in the world-renowned Chianti region. TUSCANY Our host lets us in on a few secrets of Italian cooking today, as we prepare ourselves a classic rustic Tuscan lunch. After we’ve enjoyed the fruits, vegetables and fresh pasta of our labour, the afternoon is free to relax. Make the most of the pool, take a walk or lounge on the terrace with a good book. TUSCANY – FLORENCE – LUCCA We turn our attention to Florence – birthplace of the Renaissance and home to some of the world’s most treasured masterpieces. A local guide brings the city alive as we stroll through the streets on a walking tour. As afternoon melts away, we continue to Lucca – hailed by many as the most spectacular walled town in Italy. LUCCA – PISA – LUCCA We get up close and personal to an Italian icon today, with a visit to the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. Then we venture into the city itself, discovering the remarkable acoustics inside the Baptistery of St. John, where even the faintest whisper echoes around the walls. Afternoon sees us back in Lucca, with the rest of the day and night to explore at your own pace. Meals included: Breakfast

SANTA MARGHERITA LIGURE – BAROLO – CHERASCO Our compass points north and we travel inland to Piedmont, a region of rich red wines and luxurious cuisine. Our first stop is Grinzane Cavour Castle for wine tasting, before driving near the village of Barolo, where we join a truffle hunt with a local farmer. Once we have worked up an appetite, we will follow it up with a sumptuous slow-food dinner in Cherasco. Meals included: Breakfast & dinner

TIRANO – LAKE MOLVENO – TRENTOThis morning we turn our attention to the majestic Lake Molveno at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites. We continue to Trento for a walking tour and meet in the evening for a farewell dinner. Meals included: Breakfast & dinner

LAKE MAGGIORE Leaving dry land behind us for the day, we set sail for the Borromean Islands. We wander the terraces of the ornate Baroque Garden on Isola Bella and discover the pretty harbour of Isola dei Pescatori. Explore the shores of Lake Maggiore at your own pace. Meals included: Breakfast & dinner

LAKE MAGGIORE – LECCO – TIRANOBidding farewell to Lake Maggiore, we discover the sights of Lecco before we reach Tirano for a wine tasting session. After an indulgent afternoon, we return to our hotel and meet for dinner at a local restaurant to continue the culinary adventure. Meals included: Breakfast & dinner

CHERASCO – ASTI – LAKE ORTA – LAKE MAGGIORE A treat is in store for the sweet-toothed among us at a distillery near Asti, where we sip regional liquors, complemented by hand-made nougat. Then it’s time to head for the hills, pristine lakes and soaring mountains of northern Italy. Lake Maggiore marks the magnificent final stop of the day. Meals included: Breakfast

TRENTO – VERONA – VENICE Fair Verona beckons today, with its impressive Roman ruins and romantic hotspots such as Juliet’s balcony. After exploring the city we continue to the Valpoliceella region – the jewel in the crown of Italian wine making. Here we visit Tenuta Santa Maria Valverde estate to taste their reserve wines. Then it’s on to the finale of our adventure: the floating city of Venice where you will experience a Gondala ride exploring the world famous canals. Meals included: Breakfast
