Factors and

Score

Criteria and Assigned

Weighted Score

Reasons of why they are Important

(1) Technical

Considerations

Score : 8

Functionality (8)

Performance (8)

Storage Efficiency (7)

Reliability (7)

Connectivity (6)

Security (5)

Compatibility (4)

Technical Specifications are the first

things that come to people’s minds while

planning to buy a netbook

Functionality included in technical factor is

the most vital business requirement requested

by head office. So, we gave highest score 8.

(2) Netbook

Ergonomic

Features

Score : 8

Usability and Design (8)

Portability (7)

Screen Size (5)

Must be ease of use.

Design must be suitable for sale executives

Must be portable for staff who have to travel

Some users do not like small screen size

Usability is also highly requested.

So, we gave same score as technical factor.

(3) Business

Considerations

Score : 7

Brand Reputation (7)

Consumer Ratings (6)

Discount & Privileges(4)

Must evaluate tangible & intangible benefits

Brand reputation and consumer ratings can

give intangible benefits

Must compare discounts and privileges

offered by netbooks for tangible benefits

There may be less business risks if this

factor is considered.

Factors &

Score

Criteria and Assigned

Weighted Score

Reasons of why they are Important

(4) Long-

term

Prospects

Score : 6

Durability (8)

Availability (7)

Warranty & Replacement (6)

Customer Supportability (6)

Extensibility (5)

Safety (4)

High Durability, availability of spare parts in

local, well-defined warranty, good customer

services, extensible in performance and

capacity, health issues must be compared.

Future considerations are key in reducing

unnecessary costs & problems in the long run

(5) TCO

Score : 5

Netbook Purchasing Costs(7)

Project Development Cost(7)

Licensing Costs (6)

Consultant Fees(5)

Training Fees(4)

Warranty Extension Costs (4)

Monthly Operational Costs(3)

Service Fees (2)

Only tangible costs are noticed and hidden

costs are left to consider(costs become high)

Company also wanted to estimate TCO

But, if we greatly focus on TCO than usability

and functionality, business needs cannot fully

meet

So, gave score 5(important but not essential)

(6) Build

Quality

Score : 4

Best Value (6)

Best Battery Life (5)

Best for Business

Travelers(5)

Best Graphics (3)

Can decide easily and quickly which netbook

can meet our requirements, For e.g. our staff

have to travel sometimes and we can choose

quickly by weighing the third criterion.

But, it is not as important as above factors

and we assigned score 4.

How Total Weighted Score Calculated?

By adding (Percentage got by each netbook for each factor * weighted scores of this factor)

How Maximum Weighted Score Calculate?

By adding (Weighted Scores of each factor * 100)

Formula for Average Scores

Average = (Total / Maximum) * 100

e.g. Average for Samsung = (20.70670795 / 3800) * 100

= 54.49%

Page 7: IT Project and Quality Management Coursework 1 by May Hnit Oo Khin

Calculation Methods of TCO

Formula to calculate TCO for a netbook

TCO = (One-off Costs + Recurring Costs) - 35% return money

To get TCO for 400 staff, we will multiply the result of One Netbook's TCO with 400.
