Reflection is one of the key attributes included in our Aide Memoire and this week I do find myself in a reflective mood. As we all know, we are in our final term as BVIS Vincom Village before we transform into BIS Hanoi. is thought is exciting but tinged with a little sadness due to the thought of saying goodbye to BVIS. If I reflect back to two years ago, we were the pioneer school of the BIS group to open in Hanoi. We held seminars and worked hard to establish ourselves in the capital in order to gain the confidence of potential parents. In return many Hanoians ‘’took the risk’’ and believed in us by enrolling their children at the school. I do hope that over the last 2 years as BVIS we have repaid that belief (I suspect we have) as almost all our existing students are remaining with us as we move to becoming BIS Hanoi. Equally exciting is that we are beginning to enroll new students for next year and gaining interest from various international communities in the city. Presently, we have 10 different nationalities represented at the school with the British representation being second only to the number of Vietnamese students that we have. In this way, the school will be different with a more international feel to it. e level of English on the school campus will increase as the great majority of lessons will be conducted in English. Our recruitment of a large number of new teachers, mainly from the UK, will bring further expertise and enthusiasm to the school. We achieved that with distinction as BVIS and I have no doubts that we will achieve it again and that the British International School Hanoi will become a premier International School not only in Vietnam but also in SE Asia. Suy ngẫm là một trong những khía cạnh quan trọng trong Những điều cần ghi nhớ của Trường chúng ta và tuần này tôi thấy mình có một tâm trạng đầy suy ngẫm. Như tất cả chúng ta đều biết, chúng ta đang trải qua Học kỳ cuối với tư cách là Trường Quốc tế BVIS Vincom Village trước khi chuyển thành Trường Quốc tế BIS Hà Nội. Suy nghĩ này đầy háo hức nhưng cũng thoáng một chút buồn khi nghĩ tới việc chúng ta phải nói lời tạm biệt với Trường Quốc tế BVIS. Nghĩ lại hai năm trước đây, chúng ta đã từng là ngôi trường đầu tiên trong Hệ thống Trường Quốc tế BIS mở tại Hà Nội. Nhà trường đã tổ chức những buổi hội thảo tuyển sinh và nỗ lực hết mình để gây dựng nên một ngôi trường tốt và dành được sự tin tưởng của các bậc Phụ huynh tương lai. Đáp lại, có rất nhiều bậc Phụ huynh ở Hà Nội đã “chấp nhận rủi ro” và tin tưởng vào nhà trường bằng cách đăng ký nhập học cho con em mình tại Trường. Tôi hy vọng rằng trong hai năm qua, Trường Quốc tế BVIS đã đền đáp được lòng tin đó của các bậc Phụ huynh (tôi nghĩ rằng nhà trường đã làm được điều đó) bởi hầu hết các em học sinh hiện tại đã ở lại với nhà Trường khi Trường chúng ta chuyển đổi thành Trường Quốc tế BIS Hà Nội. Có một điều không kém phần thú vị là nhà trường đang bắt đầu tuyển học sinh mới cho năm học tới và thu hút được sự quan tâm từ nhiều cộng đồng quốc tế khác nhau trong thành phố. Hiện tại, Trường chúng ta có các em học sinh mang 10 Quốc tịch khác nhau đang học tại Trường và số lượng những em mang Quốc tịch Anh đứng thứ hai chỉ sau số lượng học sinh mang
Quốc tịch Việt Nam của Trường chúng ta. �eo cách này, nhà trường sẽ trở nên khác biệt với một cảm nhận mang tính quốc tế hơn. Mức độ tiếng Anh tại Trường sẽ tăng lên khi phần lớn các tiết học sẽ diễn ra bằng tiếng Anh. Việc tuyển dụng nhiều giáo viên mới, đa phần đến từ Anh Quốc, sẽ mang đến tri thức chuyên môn và lòng nhiệt huyết lớn hơn nữa cho nhà trường. Chúng ta có mối liên hệ rất mật thiết với trường trong cùng hệ thống, đó là Trường Quốc tế BIS TP. Hồ Chí Minh, một ngôi trường đã được công nhận là xuất sắc trong cuộc thanh tra Trường về “Những Trường Anh Quốc tại nước ngoài” gần đây. Việc đăng ký tại tổ chức Tú tài Quốc tế của Trường chúng ta đã gần hoàn tất với dự định sẽ mang đến chương trình Tú tài Quốc tế trong tương lai.
Trong lời phát biểu khai mạc tại Ngày Khai giảng năm học đầu tiên của Trường Quốc tế BVIS vào tháng 8 năm 2012, tôi đã trích dẫn câu nói của Henry Ford rằng “Đến với nhau là sự khởi đầu; cùng nhau đồng hành là cả một quá trình; làm việc cùng nhau là thành công”. Chúng ta đã xuất sắc đạt được điều đó khi là Trường Quốc tế BVIS và tôi chắc chắn rằng chúng ta sẽ vẫn tiếp tục đạt được điều đó và Trường Quốc tế BIS Hà Nội sẽ trở thành ngôi trường Quốc tế hàng đầu không chỉ ở Việt Nam mà còn trong khu vực Đông Nam Á.

Many teams announced their football World Cup squads this week. By complete coincidence Mr Rowlands also sent out a letter outlining our updated line up of teachers for the new academic year. It has been great to be in communication with these colleagues who are all very excited about their move to Hanoi and BIS. We will be very sad to have members of our
founding team leave us in the summer but they all leave for very positive reasons and are going onto great ventures in other parts of the world. �ey have all had great impact on our �rst two years and leave behind a school that is far stronger due to their contribution. Colleagues continuing with us and new members of the team will build upon this as we further develop the section.
Part of this development has been planning for the transition from BVIS to BIS. Even in Secondary this is more, if I can continue the football parallels, than changing the colour of our shirt. Whilst keeping all the elements that have made BVIS (Vincom Village) the success it is, we need to incorporate changes to ensure our international students are just as well catered for and therefore have the same high standards of achievement.
Tuần vừa qua đã có rất nhiều đội bóng công bố đội hình chính thức của mình cho kì World Cup sắp tới. Hoàn toàn trùng hợp, thầy Rowlands cũng đã gửi một lá thư với nội dung cập nhật đội ngũ giáo viên của trường trong năm học tới. �ật tuyệt vời khi nói chuyện với những người đồng nghiệp mới, họ đều rất hứng thú với việc chuyển tới Hà Nội và trường Quốc tế BIS. Chúng tối rất buồn khi một số giáo viên làm việc từ khi trường thành lập sẽ rời đi vào mùa hè này, nhưng cũng mừng là họ đều rời đi vì những nguyên nhân tích cực và sẽ tiếp tục khám phá những nước khác trên thế giới. Họ đã tạo được những ảnh hưởng lớn trong hai năm đầu tiên của trường và rời đi khi ngôi trường đã vững mạnh hơn rất nhiều nhờ vào những cống hiến của họ. Những đồng nghiệp còn ở lại và những giáo viên mới sẽ cùng xây dựng dựa trên nền tảng này khi phát triển hơn nữa khối Trung học.
Một phần của sự phát triển chính là việc chuẩn bị chuyển đổi từ trường Quốc tế BVIS sang trường Quốc Tế BIS. �ậm chí, nếu tôi có thể tiếp tục nói theo cách nói trong bóng đá, thì điều này đối với Khối Trung học còn nhiều hơn là chỉ thay đổi màu áo. Trong khi vẫn giữ những yếu tố tốt đã làm nên thành công ở trường Quốc tế BVIS (cơ sở Vincom Village), cũng cần có những thay đổi để đảm bảo rằng các em học sinh quốc tế cũng được học tập tốt và có thành tích thật cao.

�is week the Primary school has been celebrating Green Week. Looking a�er our planet, conserving its resources, and caring for the environment and all that lives in it is a responsibility that we all share if we want to ensure that our children and our children’s children can continue to enjoy the world as we do.
�ere are many ways in which we can do this, but we decided that as a school we would focus on two particular aspects this week.
�e �rst of these was the need to conserve resources, which includes saving electricity. �is is not about reducing bills, but about thinking about where our electricity comes from in the �rst place and the kind of natural resources that are used in the production of electricity – coal, gas, oil, etc. Children were very diligent throughout the week about turning o� lights and air conditioning when they le� their classrooms for specialist lessons or break time – I even had one or two reminders to turn o� the lights in my o�ce when I went out! We have read the school electricity meter and will do so again today to compare electricity consumption last week and this; hopefully we will see a noticeable di�erence.
�e second area that we focused on relates to our Aide Memoire and ‘Vietnamese Perspective’. Last week the children who are members of the Primary School Council Tuần này khối Tiểu học tổ chức Tuần lễ Xanh. Bảo vệ hành

Chúng ta có thể thực hiện điều này theo nhiều cách, nhưng với vai trò của một trường học chúng tôi quyết định sẽ tập trung vào hai khía cạnh trong tuần này.
Việc đầu tiên cần làm là bảo tồn các nguồn tài nguyên, trong đó bao gồm việc tiết kiệm điện. Nó không chỉ bao gồm việc giảm chi phí tiền điện, mà còn là suy nghĩ về việc điện có từ đâu và các loại tài nguyên thiên nhiên được sử dụng để sản xuất ra điện – than, khí, dầu… Các em học sinh đã rất chú ý tắt điện và điều hòa khi ra khỏi phòng học của mình để đi học các tiết khác hay giờ nghỉ giữa giờ trong suốt tuần - thậm chí tôi đã bị nhắc một hoặc hai lần tắt điện trong phòng làm việc của mình trước khi ra ngoài! Chúng tôi đã xem số điện ở công-tơ điện của trường và ngày hôm nay sẽ xem lại để so sánh mức tiêu thụ điện của tuần trước và tuần này; hy vọng chúng ta sẽ thấy một sự khác biệt đáng kể.

trong Hội đồng học sinh khối Tiểu học đi thăm Khu bảo tồn Gấu ở Tam Đảo được điều hành bởi Animals Asia (Tổ chức bảo tồn các loài động vật Châu Á). Số lượng Gấu Mặt Trăng (Moon bear) và Gấu Mặt Trời (Sun bear) sống trong tự nhiên ở Việt Nam đã giảm đáng kể, giảm đến mức báo động. Khu bảo tồn cứu những con gấu với mục đích sẽ đưa một số con trong đó trở về với cuộc sống hoang dã trong tương lai. Các em rất thích những con vật xinh đẹp này và quyết định dùng số tiền quyên góp được từ ngày không đồng phục hôm nay để làm từ thiện vì mục đích cao cả này. Hội đồng học sinh khối Tiểu học đã chia sẻ một số kinh nghiệm và suy nghĩ của mình với chúng tôi trong buổi sinh hoạt tập thể Tuần lễ Xanh hôm nay – các em là nhóm học sinh mà chúng tôi thấy rất tự hào.
visited the Tam Dao Bear Sanctuary which is run by the charity Animals Asia. �e numbers of Moon bears and Sun bears living in the wild in Vietnam has reduced dramatically, to the point that they are becoming endangered species of bear. �e sanctuary rescues bears and rehabilitates them, with the aim of returning some of these bears to the wild in the future. �e children were enchanted with these beautiful animals and decided that the money which we raise from today’s non-uniform day should be donated to this very worthwhile cause. �e Primary School Council shared some of their experiences and thoughts with us in today’s special Green Day assembly – they are a group of children of whom we are very proud.

�e ICT department has grown this year with the focus on developing the ICT skills that were established in the last academic year. One of the most popular topics was developing 3D design skills using the so�ware Google Sketchup. Year 9 students designed their dream house and furnished it with some eclectic choices.
�is year also saw the start of the Cambridge ICT IGCSE examination course which all students in Year 10 are currently studying. So far they have designed a network for a restaurant and also created the website and �nancial systems for the restaurant. On the whole a high standard of knowledge was displayed in the �nal results.
Year 12 �nished their ICT IGCSE studies at BVIS and have already sat their examinations, so best wishes for the future and hoping the results re�ect the hard work that the students put into their studies. As the ICT teacher I am also hoping to see a number of the students back next academic year to take their Applied ICT A level.
Outside of school hours, a coding club was set up and this was attended by pupils from Years 7, 8 and 9. �ey were introduced to HTML and learnt how to create a website using only HTML code. It is hoped that this kind of programming club will be popular next year as coding is a vital skill needed for anyone in our technological future.
Bộ môn Tin học đã có nhiều phát triển trong năm học vừa qua với sự tập trung tăng cường các kĩ năng Tin Học đã được hình thành vào năm ngoái. Một trong những chủ đề đang được phát triển đó là kĩ năng thiết kế đồ họa 3D sử dụng phần mềm Google Sketchup. Các em học sinh lớp 9 đã thiết kế ngôi nhà mơ ước cho mình và trang trí nội thất bên trong với một số lựa chọn mang tính chất dung hòa.
Năm nay cũng chứng kiến sự bắt đầu khóa học Tin học IGCSE của trường Đại học Cambridge mà tất cả các em học sinh khối 10 đang theo học. Đến nay, các em đã thiết kế được mạng cho nhà hàng, cùng với trang web và hệ thống tài chính cho nhà hàng đó. Nhìn chung, kiến thức với chất lượng cao đã được thể hiện trong kết quả cuối cùng của các em.
Các em học sinh lớp 12 đã hoàn thành môn Tin Học IGCSE tại trường Quốc tế BVIS và hoàn thành các bài thi của mình. Chúc các em đạt được kết quả tốt, phản ánh được những nỗ lực của các em trong học tập. Là giáo viên dạy Tin học, tôi cũng rất mong sẽ gặp lại một số học sinh chọn học môn Tin học ứng dụng trong khóa học Tú Tài Anh (A Level) vào năm sau.
Ngoài giờ học chính, một câu lạc bộ lập trình cũng đã được thành lập với sự tham gia của các em học sinh lớp 7,8 và 9. Các em được học về HTML và cách tạo một trang web sử dụng lập trình HTML. Hy vọng rằng hình thức câu lạc bộ thế này sẽ phổ biến hơn vào năm sau vì lập trình đang là một kĩ năng thiết yếu, cần cho tất cả mọi người trong thế giới tương lai sẽ sử dụng nhiều đến công nghệ.
