HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTION

As a step towards enabling more girls to obtain the benefits of higher education, Government Degree College for Women (GDCW) has the distinction of being the first College for Women in Medak District, one of the backward districts in Andhra Pradesh. It is Established in 1981. It was sanctioned by the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who contested from Medak parliamentary constituency in 1980. The college had its modest beginning in then existing sheds of the Basic Training Centre with 6 students, and 2 UG courses of study.

NAAC Accreditation: In recognition of its academic quality and excellence, the National Assessment

and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission (UGC) has accredited the College with B grade in March, 2008.

To provide scope for more field exposure for students of all stream.Under examination reforms introduction of question banks was planned.More widespread usage of innovative methods including ICT.Greater contact with expertise from various fields through lectures, seminars, awareness programmes, guest lectures etc.,To strengthen the services of career counseling.To plan sensitization programmes under WEC .To launch college website.To conduct “Yoga training” to staff members.To make an effort to introduce PG programs in M.Com and MA Urdu.To start UG course MPCs in B.Sc.To start Faculty forum for increasing research activity and to update the advancements in the concerned subjects.To enrich quality education by organizing seminars, guest lecturers workshops and field visits.To give representation to MLA,MP & District Collector for compound wallTo impart life skills and employability skills.To pursue for regular staff to posted for B.Sc & BA UM

Mission:

Given the challenges of privatization and globalization there is an urgent need for development of employability skills of the students to meet the need of the industry. An action plan will be implemented in phases to conduct orientation/ awareness programmes in career guidance. 42. Action Taken Report on AQAR of the previous year

Question banks were introduced To enrich quality education seminars, workshops, guest lectures, field

visit were organized To provide gender sensitization legal literacy camp was organized in

which Justice B.Chandra Kumar, Judge High court of AP, Smt.Rajani, Dist. Sessions Judge, Sangareddy gave enlightening lectures

On the eve of International Women’s Day Smt.Humeira Fathima, Chief Manager, SBH Sangareddy spoke on issues relating to Women empowerment

Due to disturbances and strike by employees on Telangana Issue from 13-9-2011 to 20-10-2011 Yoga classes and Faculty Forum were not started.

PG Programs in M.Com and MA Urdu, UG Program MPCs in B.Sc are not started due to lack of strength

After repeated requests CCE has posted only 2 contract posts for BA UM and 2 Posts for B.Sc

Representations have been submitted to MLA & District Collector for construction of Compound Wall.

To make commerce lab functional and accessible to the students.

To organize VIPANI, an exhibition cum sale to develop the marketing skills of the students.

To collaborate with Women and Child welfare Department and conduct skill training

programmes to the students.

To organize legal awareness programmes under women empowerment cell.

To monitor and review research activity promoting research culture among students.

To tap the potential of the faculty through conducting faculty forum.

To start NCC unit in the college.
