Connect the dots to reveal the lake creature…
Princess Butterfly CupcakesAfter a day of solving mysteries, make some butterf ly
cakes using Jess and Millie’s favourite recipe.
• Ask a grown-up to preheat the oven to • 180ºC (fan)/200ºC (electric)/Gas mark 6.• Lay out 12 cake cases in a bun tin.• Mix the sugar, f lour and baking powder
together.• Add the butter/margarine and eggs.• Whisk all of it together. • Using a teaspoon, fill the cake cases with the
mixture (be sure to give them an even • amount each).• Put the tray in the oven for 15 minutes, until
they are golden brown.• Take them out of the oven and let them cool.• Make the icing by whisking the butter and
sugar together with a spoon of milk, until it is light and f luffy.
• Use a knife (or ask a grown-up) to scoop a hole out of the top of the cake.
• Cut the scooped out cake in half. Fill the • hole in the cake with icing and then place • the cut out cake on top (like wings).• Sprinkle some sprinkles on top of your cakes,
and enjoy!

Royal Chocolate CakeFollow Chef’s secret recipe to make a delicious chocolate cake.
• Ask a grown-up to preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF/Gas 4.
• Grease and line two 20cm/8in sandwich tins.• For the cake, place all of the cake ingredients,
except the boiling water, into a large mixing bowl. Using a wooden spoon, beat the mixture until smooth and well combined.
• Ask a grown-up to add the boiling water to the mixture, a little at a time, until smooth.
• Divide the cake batter between the sandwich tins and bake in the oven for 25-35 minutes, or until the top is firm to the touch.
• Remove the cakes from the oven and allow to cool in their tins, before icing (make sure an adult is there to do this!).
• For the chocolate icing, heat the chocolate and cream in a saucepan over a low heat until the chocolate melts.
• Remove the pan from the heat and whisk the mixture until it is smooth. Set aside to cool for 1-2 hours, or until thick enough to spread over the cake.
• To assemble the cake, run a round-bladed knife around the inside of the cake tins to loosen the cakes. Carefully remove the cakes from the tins.
• Spread a little chocolate icing over the top of one of the chocolate cakes, then carefully top with the other cake.
• Now ice the cake all over with the chocolate icing.• Add as many sprinkles as you like, and enjoy!
