In order to bring you a complete façade system, we offer cw; wind/doors; skylights; PV; and sun shading components, as well as all of the attachment profiles for their seamless integration. Schuco offers both unitized and stick built curtain walls from our standard FW50+ and 60+ system lines. We also offer skylight constructions using the same systems that would be used vertically to maintain a continuous face width dimension. We also offer many innovative profiles such as the variable angle ridge and eave profiles to easily accommodate segmentation from 0 to 45 degrees – giving you greater design freedom with your skylight constructions.

All of our Curtain wall and skylight systems are fully pressure equalized an drained. We have tested them here in the USA to AAMA standards, and achieve around a 26 psf water performance. We are able to achieve this level of performance because of our unique construction and drainage principles Most common domestic curtain walls that we are all very familiar with are pressure equalized. The pressure equalization is created by sealing off each glazing field separately, and draining the water from each field through the pressure plate / cover cap weeps, and out of the system. These domestic walls achieve about a 15 psf. Water performance. Those systems are constructed with mullions and transoms that are butt joined, and rely heavily on perimeter silicone seals inside the curtain wall chambers to achieve pressure equalization Schuco approaches pressure equalization from a different angle. We treat the entire curtain wall as one pressure equalized zone, rather than each glazing field. In this method, we no longer rely on critical field seals, nor do we have to drain each glazing field out onto the one below it. Schuco systems have dry-set, overlapping mullion - transom construction that allows water to be controlled within the drainage channels of the profiles. Water is controlled from the transoms to the vertical mullions – and out of the system.

In all of the Schuco curtain wall systems, we offer the option for you to increase the thermal performance of th eoverall system by very simply changing the thermal break (and maybe the pressure plate as well). We offer “standard ; Hi ; and Super Hi” performance options by simply changing the thermal break and pressure plates. All of the major components (mullions, gaskets, caps) remain the same. In the Standard performing system, we use our standard thermal break (isolator). This isolator is more than twice the size of domestic walls. Notice that the glazing gaskets are a full ½”, which is twice the size of domestic walls as well. The concept is to push the mass of aluminum farther away from the outside environment. This standard system is still outperforming the well know systems in U-value and CRF. Hi systems are all of the same components as standard, except for the isolator – which is a standard isolator with EPDM legs co-extruded. The concept is to reduce the convection within the curtain wall chamber. The pressure plate is a standard aluminum plate with a foam strip fitted onto it. The Super Hi system, again, only changes the isolator – which is a standard isolator with foam legs “glued” on either side. We finish this system with a PVC-u pressure plate. To give you sense of how these options can affect a project - We are working on a project seeking a “Platinum” LEED rating. The system was required to have U-value of .21. We were able to achieve this .21 using our Super Hi system along with a triple glazed unit. This is a relatively inexpensive solution to increase performance.

As a testament to the performance of Schuco systems, I wanted to show this project in Switzerland – “The Sphinx”. This is the highest building site in Europe, construction at 11,715 feet above see level. Schuco designed high thermally insulated aluminum curtain walls and operable windows to successfully withstand some of the most extreme conditions on the planet.

Schuco has two basic Curtain wall systems. They are the FW (fassaden Wall) 50+ and 60+. Notice the ability for us to use both aluminum or steel insert profiles to stiffen the mullions. Also, we use a full ½” glazing gasket to separate the glass unit from the mullion; This, coupled with a large thermal break, gives us a very strong thermal performing standard system. Lastly, we have cut 100’s of different cover caps to finish the system. We also have unique one-piece pressure plate / cover cap combination pieces to give an industrial look – and limit the number of pieces in the system.

As a standard, Schuco has several options for our stick built curtain wall systems. We offer assembly mullions and transoms for ease of fabrication and installation. Another innovation is the „Variable Angle Mullion“. This mullion can accomodate a segmentation up to 45 degrees just by bending the leg to the proper angle. We offer corresponding pressure plates and cover caps to finish the outside of the curtain wall. So, you can see that you no longer have to cut new dies for each mullion to create segmented walls. Since Schuco also uses the same system for the „skylight“ system, we also offer variable angle Rige and Eave profiles which allow you to easily and effectively design your skylight to many angles.

Another one of our standard systems is the FW50+ S. This is an aluminum curtain wall that is a steel look-a-like. The profiles can be extruded with an “I” or a “T” shaped back box. These profiles can also be stiffened with insert profiles. If you use a very deep mullion (over 9 15/16”), we can punch geometric shapes into the solid back box to give you a more lacey appearance. This system offers a variable angle mullion profile that has a “nuckle” on the end that allows you to fasten glazing pieces around - to give you segmentation up to 45 degrees.

Schuco also offers a structurally glazed curtain wall system, both 2 and 4 sided. The codes in Germany dictate that flush exterior glazed walls have to be mechanically fastened. We have designed and manufactured this special glass spacer. The spacer is sold to glass fabricators. They fabricate hermetically sealed units. These units are fastened to the mullions using a cast-aluminum “key” that is fastened with a screw. This SG system uses the same profiles and gaskets as the standard systems, so it is very easy to design. We utilize another Schuco innovation when we create a segmented wall. Here, we use the variable angle mullion, and use cast-aluminum keys that have longer “legs” that have been cast to the correct angle. This system has specially designed “zero – sightline insert windows that allow you to keep the SG look consistent throughout the exterior of the wall. We will look at those in greater detail in a few minutes. We can also offer a SG system that is typical of domestic walls - by wet structural silicone sealing the glass to the mullions , in a 2 side SG configuration.

To finish the exterior of the SG glazing, you have 2 options. 1. You can “wet seal” the exterior by using our foam backer rod that zips into the tongue of the isolator, then finish with a silicone seal. 2. Or, you can take advantage of another of Schuco’s innovations by using our EPDM exterior gasket to seal the glass to glass exterior joint. This EPDM gasket zips into the tongue of the isolator to form a tight seal. This gasket gives a nice uniform reveal to the outside of the glazing. It is also an extremely time efficient way to finish the curtain wall.

Schuco also offers a vineer system the FW 50+ and 60+ AOT and AOS. These systems utilize an existing steel or timber structure to create a shallow curtain wall. These can be captured or structurally glazed. This system uses a one piece – continuous gasket to give it superior water performance – up to 30 psf.

So far, we have only talked about stick built curtain walls. BUT… Schuco has two standard options for the unitized curtain wall. The Skyline S 65 is a captured curtain wall. The Skyline C 65SG is a 4 sided SG wall. These are very high performing systems, that allow for much greater movements than the typical stick built system. Again, Schuco offers standard captured vents – as well as zero sightline window inserts for the SG system.

Here in the USA, Schuco’s nitch is the STANDARD MODIFIED systems. But something that is worth mentioning is our heavy involvement in the “double skin façade” market. Schuco has been instrumental in the development of this type of design throughout the world. These double skin systems can take many forms and shapes, but the underlying function is to take advantage of the natural climate to create a more enjoyable environment inside the building space. It has been claimed that these constructions can reduce your HVAC needs by more than 30% - again, there are many many factors to consider when making these types of claims. the point is that Schuco is a leader in this type of design, and if you are involved in this type of project – think of Schuco early on to assist in your design.

Schuco windows and doors are very high performing systems, thanks to the Iosbar construction. You should note that the size of the thermal break is 11/16” wide – this is twice the width of our competitors. This also allows us to easily finish the outside differently from the inside. Schuco also uses miter corner construction for both the master frame and sash, for a stronger and better looking window. Schuco offers a standard center gasket to seal the perimeter inside the vent. This , along with gasketed rebates, is how our windows achieve the 15 psf water performance.

Schuco offers you auotmation of windows and sun shading elements. Automation is possible for both natural ventilation and fire/smoke protection purposes. Therefore, you can control vents from a wall switch or a computer Schuco offers this automation as a complete system – we have designed the whole package – control units, interfaces, wiring harnesses, motors, sensors, and commissioning.....all of which can be fully concealed from sight within our profiles.

All of our windows can be inserted into our curtain wall. But I must mention another innovation from Schuco - inserts for our SG curtain wall. These are “zero-sightline” vents that are available in Parallel opening and top hung operations. Notice the concealed fittings giving the units a sleek look. These units can be integrated into the sg curtain wall – but may also be punched openings, or inserts into captured walls – options for captured glass in these units

Here we see an actual photograph of the RS102 PAF installed into a SG curtain wall. Notice the following: 1. We step the outboard lite of the glass unit, structurally bonding the igu to the sash frame 2. The insert unit is thermally broken, using our isobars 3. Notice the “dual gasket” for weathertightness 4. As I mentioned, we offer fully concealed fittings in both the PAF and SK operations 5. Schuco offers these as fully manually operated or automated vents in your facades – with concealed motors and wiring

WE get a view of the inside and outside of this configuration here. Inside view = unit fits seamlessly into the curtain wall members, with a total sightline of around 2 inches. Outside view = On the outside, we give a zero-sightline look….the reflectance of the glass is continuous.

Schuco offers 4 standard louver options. 1.Elipse blade – one piece alum. Extrusion up to around 18” – then it becomes a composite 2.Needle blade – one piece extrusion. 3.Hi Tech blade – standard carrier extrusions. Compound end cap – this is to create a 90 degree angle when turning a building corner – this is a standard 45 degree extrusion We don’t stop there.
