Catacombs of St. Paul It is a little bit scary to walk alone through the catacombs, but it is also very interesting how the people buried their bodies. It is a kind of strange that today houses are built over the catacombs.

Lunch at Chalk cafe bar On my way back to the bus, I found a healthy cafe on the street. It looked very cozy and tiny from the outside, but there are a few seatings at the first floor. I ordered a vegan falafel bowl, which was very delicious, and as always a latte macchiato.

Dingli Cliffs

After Mdina I caught the bus to Dingli. At the cliffs I saw the endlessness of the ocean, this was really amazing. At this point of the cliffs I had an amazing view with some tasty strawberries.

10.02. St. Paul’s day In the evening I met some guys from Paragon Europe in Valetta. We enjoyed the St. Paul’s festivity. A couple of men carried St. Paul’s statue through the streets of Valetta. St. Paul was a man whose shipwreck ended up in Malta. He is a saint of the city Valletta and for the Maltese people he`s a really important person.

Meeting with Paragon Europe I had a meeting with the organization company Paragon Europe. I signed some documents and they told us some information, rules and about the accommodation. They asked for any questions and offered us their help with our problems.

Three-Cities-Tour After the meeting I went on a boat tour. I saw all cities around Valetta. It was very informative and interesting. There was a guide during the tour which told us something about the history and the cities. Cities: Silema, Manoel Island, Ta’Xbiex, Msida, Floriana, Valletta, Corradino, Senglea, Vittoriosa, Kalkara Healthy Food: I love eating healthy and good food. At juice box I ordered one “Mighty vegan” protein Bowl. I ate the bowl on the ferry, which is the best place to have breakfast. For lunch I found another healthy restaurant, it’s called “mint”. I was fascinated about the huge variety of healthy food. I ordered a Thai pumpkin soup and a vegan lasagne. It was delicious! I hope I will return … I bought a brownie to go, too. The brownies were without sugar and gluten-free, well perfect for me.

St. Julian’s bay I walked to the other side of Sliema: St. Julian’s Bay. One of the most beautiful places of the world. The sea there is turquoise blue. You must walk into the little park next to the sea, it`s amazing. It’s the perfect place to have a break from the daily routine.

4. Day - 6. Day

My first working day: I was very nervous about my first working day. I’m glad about the fact that my company is in Zejtun. It takes only 15 min to walk to get to my work. The name of the company is RM Design and they specialize in printing and embroidering fabrics. It is a small company with only 5 employees.

RM Design (Printing) The customers have to send a filled order form to RM Design. There are some details about the costumer aspects, Job details, descriptions, printing details specifics, name of the product, color, size and quantity. They have several names for every clothing/product. Each order is processed in maximum two weeks. RM Design has a couple of print possibilities: Foilprint/Flex, screen printing, laser jet printing, sublimations print and label machine. But they mainly use the foilprint. They have their own textiles from the spanish brand ROLY and the english brand Pencarrie. But the costumers can also send their own textiles. At first they check the number of the products in stock. If they have less, they are going to order more clothing. When the textiles arrive, they start processing the order. They create the print designs on the computer. The computer has a connection with an automatically cut machine. This cutting machine cuts the print-foil into the design, but this design can only have one color. The excess foil is then removed with a needle. Each design is getting cut separately. Now the print paper is finally ready.

The textile is stretched in the heating press. The place of the design is measured. The design is placed on the textile with the shiny side up. Then the heat plate is pushed over the textile and pressed down. The plate has usually a temperature of 160 degrees. The fabric is getting heated with a pressure for 14 seconds. The transparent film can be peeled off and the color foil remains on the textile. The textile can be pulled off from the heat press. If all textiles are printed, they can be folded up and packed together or separate. Then they are packed in a carton and sent to the costumer.

English Cafe: Make Friends & Speak English / Me Lounge Malta Spinola I attended the English Cafe event with my roommate Laura. This is the most popular meetup event in Malta for everybody who wants to make friends, explore cultures and practice spoken English. There are participants from all ages nationalities and all levels of English attend the meetup. It was very exciting. There are a lot of people from different countries. We had some interesting conversations and met peoples from the whole world.

6. Day

Valentine Day After my work I met my friends Matic and Domen from Paragon. We had a dinner at the Sardinella restaurant. I ordered gluten-free noodles with salmon tomato sauce. Afterwards we were drinking coffee at Cafe Costa. I got a very large cup of coffee with two handles.

7. Day

Rock climbing and abseiling (Xaqqa Cliffs) MC Adventure and Team building events Malta I tried climbing and abseiling and it was amazing. It was a great adventure, to climb on a rock and abseil down a cliff. The lesson took 3 hours and it started at 9 o’clock. I had an adrenaline rush and an amazing experience, too.

Xaqqa Cliffs I met the guys from Paragon afterwards and we went hiking. We hiked from the Xaqqa Cliffs to the blue grotto. The landscape of Malta is so amazing and fascinating, like a dream. Such an amazing view, which made me speechless.

Blue grotto The blue grotto is a huge hollow cliff. It is a fascinating natural phenomenon. We arrived too late and the boat tour shop had already closed. But we saw the sundown from the Cliffs. Sushi and wine festival After the blue grotto, we visited the sushi and wine festival. The festivals in Malta are very exciting. It was a great location: The limestone heritage park with some special details and a live band.

8. Day

Sunday Fish Market in Marsaxlokk On Sunday my roommate and I walked from Zejtun to the market in Marsaxlokk. It takes only 25 minutes. At the market we met my friends from Paragon. The market is perfect place for people which want to buy fresh fish and seafood. The seafood is getting caught the same morning. It’s very interesting to see the large selection of different seafoods. I bought some food (tuna salad, some octopus, olives, vegetables, fruits) and some things (bag, pullover, jute bag, souvenirs). The most things on the market are cheaper than in the shops, for the bag and pullover I paid 5 € each. After the market we had lunch at a seafood restaurant, which was very delicious.

2. Week 9. Day – 13. Day

Foilprinter/ Cutting Plotter You have to choose a print color. Two negative things by the Foilprint are that the design can only have one color and can only be easy designs. Put the foil from the back into the machine. Fix the foil with tiny rolls at the right and left side. The rolls have to be aligned within the blue markings. Put the rolls down on the foil with the handle on the backside of the machine. Switch the machine on and press the enter button. The scanner is scanning the measurements of the foil. Afterwards you have to start the cut with the program on the computer. Then the machine starts cutting the color foil automatically. When the machine is finished you have to cut the foil with a cutter. There is a line for the cut in the machine. Afterwards you have to pull out the printing foil around the design and cut out the single designs. Printing of Badges They can made badges by themselfs, but the badges on the picture are from china. Sometimes when the order is too big, they use badges from china because it`s cheaper. You have to fix the badges from both sides for 15 seconds on the garment. To make sure, that the glue is within the fabric.

Ghost Printer or HP color laser jet professional With this printer, you can print a colorful and complex design on the top of a foil. But the technic isn’t precise and it is costly. You have to fix the design for 30 seconds at 180 degrees. Let it cool down, pull the foil up and fix it again for 5 seconds.

13. Day

The three cities After work I went to the three cities. In the beginning i choose the wrong way and started in Kordin, but there was nothing. Only an industrial park. I was really confused and terrified, so I returned fast to the bus station. Then I drove to Vittoriosa with the bus. There is a huge harbor with amazing yachts. I met my both friends there and we walked to the forti sant anglu fort. The fort is at the edge of Vittoriosa next to the sea. We walked around the fort next to the sea to the other side from Vittoriosa. Afterwards we caught the ferry to Valletta. It was very nice to take the ferry at night. Carnival at Valetta The carnival in Valetta is amazing, i have never seen such magnificent floats like this. The dressed people were wearing very artistic costumes and they looked fancy. I was so surprised, it was great. The Castille Place and the Auberge de Castille.

14. Day

Gozo Gozo is a little Island next to Malta. Between Malta and Gozo is a very tiny island called Comino. We started very early to catch the ferry at 8 am and the bus took two hours to the ferry. The ferry takes only 30 minutes or less. The way to Gozo it’s free but the way back costs 4 euros. We started our hiking tour at Xlendi. We visited the Xlendi tower and enjoyed the beautiful Xlendi Bay. In Xlendi are many nice restaurants next to the sea, it is very cute. We hiked around 3 hours through the Dwejra Bay to the inland sea Divesite from there.

The Inland Sea Divesite It’s really great there. With a small boat you can drive from the little lake through a hole into the cliffs. The boat takes you around the front of the cliffs. I was very afraid in the tiny boat because it didn’t seem very safe. The waves were high and the boat was shaking. I knew that I was the only one to get wet in the boat.

Wied il-Ghasri Like a lake from the sea between the caves.

Cathedral Cave We hiked to Marsalforn from the cave. I looked in my apple watch about the hiking distance and we hiked on this day over 40 km. Salt Pans In summer the people can earn from the pans salt. The seawater is put in the pans, the water then evaporats and the salt remains behind. I bought a pack of salt by a shop there. The German series “Die Sendung mit der Maus” was at the shop in 2018. You can watch a little video in the internet about the salt pans. https://kinder.wdr.de/tv/die-sendung-mit-der-maus/av/video-sachgeschichte-salz---wie-kommt-es-aus-dem-meer--100.html

15. Day

Carnival The Carnival in Valletta on Sunday with my roommate. I was so tired from Gozo but I wanted to see the carnival again. So I went with Laura to Valetta and I am very happy about that because the carnival there was so great.

3. Week 16. Day – 20. Day

Embroidery machine The Embroidery machine has a connection with a computer. On the computer are several programs for each design. You have to choose the right program on the Embroidery machine and adding all selections about the threads. The machine has 12 places for different colored threads. So you have to enter the needed threads with the right sequence in the machine. The machine has a stitch speed from 700 stitches per minute. The machine is similar to a normal sewing machine. There is a thread on the top for the design and a thread on the back of the textile for fixing. The Embroidery are create through the movement from the drum with the textil. The textils are clamped with a non woven into a drum. The non woven is important that the Textil doesn’t shrinks during the Embroidery. The drums are fixed in the machine and the machine is moving the drums for the design. There are several kinds of stitches. In the beginning the machine is running the Singlestitch, then the zick-zack stitch and afterwards the filling stitch. When the machine has finished a design element, the machine cuts the thread and makes a second stitch to the next element. When the machine finished the return to the start position, you have to pull out the drums. Then you have to check the Embroidery, put the textiles out of the drum and cut the non woven smaller on the backside.

Special orders: Pull out a very difficult plotter. School accessories for children with initials

Printing some T-shirts for the special olympics Malta

19. Day

I went to Sliema with my new roommate Deike. We met there after our work and regarded the sunset. Then we went to the coffee circus tigne and drank a coffee. I also ordered a raw cake and a bliss ball. I was so happy, because they have sugar free cakes and sweets. My friends from paragon also came for a cup of coffee. After coffee we met three friends of Matic from Slovenia. We were walking on the coastline all together to the English Cafe. During the way I checked out the restaurants next so the sea for my last day in Malta. I decided that I will go to the u bistrot for my last dinner.

20. Day

Hello Friday Friday was a really relaxed day. Deike and I met in Valetta and we took a look at the city. We walked down to the waterfront and took the Barrakka Lift upstairs to the Upper Barrakka Gardens. We went to the restaurant soul food for a lunch. This restaurant has heathy food dishes and I really wanted to eat there. I ordered the vegetarian buddha bowl and it was very delicious. After our dinner we decided to walk to the sea. Then we stopped at a small cafe, the Piadina Coffee to get a latte macchiato there. We took a seat outside in a narrow passage and enjoyed our coffee. It has been so cozy there, a perfect place for a relax evening.

21. Day

Bays, Popeye village and Comino Gnejna Bay, Ghajn Tuhhieha Bay and Golden Bay (Mixquqa) All together - Deike, Domen, Matic, Matics friends and I - made a trip to the most beautiful bays from Malta. I can’t describe the fascinating color of the sea there. It was so amazing looking to the water during the hiking. It is so much fun to hike with such a view. We were hiking from the Gnejna Bay to the Popeye Village. The hiking pathway was very stony.

Popeye Village Next to the wonderful sea is a little village called the Popeye Village. The village is the location of the old Popeye Film. It is a small, funny and playful village with tiny houses. The entrance costs 13 euros and includes a free popcorn, a post card and a photo. It was a nice visit, but we expected more.

Comino We took a bus to Cirkewwa. There are the ferries to Gozo and Comino starting. From there we took the ferry to Comino. In the ticket included was a free caves trip. It was so amazing driving with a little boat, like a speedboat, next to the claves to Comino. I’m so fascinated about the turquoise colored sea every time, I love it. You have a great view of the turquoise water from Comino. At Comino I bought a couple of strawberries and pineapple, it has been really delicious with this view.

Saturday evening: The blue Elefant and Havana club. I have booked a table for the dinner in the blue Elefant hotel. The restaurant is within the Hilton hotel. The Hilton hostel is so huge and wonderful. I’d like to stay there for my holidays, if I come back to Malta but it is very costly. It is a Thai restaurant and my favorite food is thai. Inside the restaurant is decorated with trees and springs in a thai style. I ordered Green Chicken Curry with rice noodles. The food was very delicious but it was expensive. After the dinner we went to the Havana club. It was a nice evening and we danced a lot.

22. Day

Bugibba and the Malta National Aquarium The journey with the trip was horrible. We missed our bus station, because the bus was driving another bus route because of the Malta marathon. After a long bus journey we finally arrived. At first we went to the St. Paul`s Bay tower. You have an amazing view from the tower and the whole coastline. Coffee-Time: We took a coffee at the Terryberry tearoom. A very tiny and cozy coffee, very sweet. Afterwards Deike and I walked on the coastline to the national aquarium. The coastline was so fantastic and the weather was perfect. I think it had around 21 degrees on this day. The Aquarium was really nice. The last time I went to an aquarium was long time ago. In the beginning was a demonstration of how prisms are fed. It was interesting, because prisms are only eating dead animals. So when you put something alive in the Aquarium nothing would happen. We saw different kinds of sea life and a few reptiles. And already a week has been over.It was a great last weekend.

4. Week (Last week) 23. – 27. Day

Badges Machine: It’s an automatic embroidery machine with only one embroidery place. The machine has a drum with the size of 300x500mm to fix the textil. This machine can embroidery with at least 1000 stitches per minute. The machine is working by itsself, so you don’t need to keep care of it. The design is transferred with an USB stick and the machine images the design on the display. The different to embroidery is that badges are edged, singled and they are fixed with glue on the textile. Badges are embroidered on robustly fabrics, e.g. jeans. After the embroidery the backside is fitted out with glue and the bagdes are cut one by one. Badges can be fixed on each place from the textile. I printed and embroidered my own T-shirt

- Choose the T-shirt color - Search the RM Design in a folder - Prepare the required threads - Choose the right size of drum - Take the threads into the machine - Make the embroidery machine ready - Connect the machine with the computer - Choose the appropriate program - Set the machine in the right frequency The machine is ready

- Measure the textile and fix it into the drum - Take the drum into the machine - Start the machine with the green button - The machine embroiders the design - Afterwards cut the non woven Finally my own embroidered and printed T-shirt

26. Day (Last workday) Thank you RM Design! I was so happy with my company. They are so nice and friendly people. I was so glad about my coworkers and my boss. I brought a piece of cake for each of them, as a little “thank-you”. I will miss them so much, Annalise, Ray, Isabell and Sherin.

Marsaskala After my last working day I met Deike in Marsaskala. One of my coworkers lives in Marsaskala and recommended to visit this city. I expected nothing in the beginning, but was so surprised about this beautiful city. It is a very lovely and romantic place next so the sea, with a couple of restaurants. We walked along the coastline to the Zonqor Beach, but it isn’t a beach with sand because there are only claves. On our way to the beach we bought some strawberries. We had a seat at a bench in the sun and ate the strawberries. They were very delicious. Afterwards we walked back and I bought a coffee and an energy ball at the foam and fork. Girls Night: In the evening we watched a movie in our shared apartment. I miss my girls, Deike and Laura, it was a great time with these girls.

27. Day Breakfast at the Cafe Crudo I woke up early and decided to go to the breakfast coffee earlier. I met my friend Domen there. Domen took a free day from work to spend the last day with me. I was very surprised and happy about that. We had a nice breakfast, I ordered an açaí bowl and avocado & hummus on rye bread (very delicious). It was one of my to-do’s in Malta going for a breakfast next to the sea. Closing Meeting with Paragon Europe in Mosta: They gave me the certification for the internship program only.

Msida: After the meeting with Paragon Europe, we went to Msida. We walked from Msida along the coastline to Sliema. It is very lovely to walk next to the big harbor from Msida. In Sliema we met our friends Deike and Matic and went for a coffee in the rooftop cafe Mark&Spencer. The view there was fantastic, because you have an overview of the sea and Valetta from there. A great place for my last coffee in Malta. My last evening in Malta: It was the perfect last day but I was so sad that I am flying home on the next day. We went for a dinner to the u bistro restaurant. It was a really hard decision to choose the location for my last dinner in Malta. I was so glad about that I have choosen the U bistro. The restaurant is so beautiful decorated with flowers on the ceiling and the food was really delicious. It was the best dinner in Malta. I ordered a rice bowl with avocado and chicken. The rice was amazingly prepared with a mixture of raisins, chickpeas and curry. My friends were also very happy about their food, we all together have been very satisfied. At the dinner my friends Matic and Domen gave me a little farewell gift, I was very surprised and happy about their gift. They gave me a photo of us. After the dinner we went to the Hard Rock Cafe for a drink. I was very sad to said goodbye to my buddies, I miss my adventure group.

28. Day (bye bye Malta)

I woke up very early and I couldn’t sleep anymore. I decided to prepare my breakfast relaxedly and took a shower. Then Laura and Deike joined me and we talked together the last time. I was waiting for my transfer in front of my door. The transfer should have come at 10.30 am, but the transfer was coming at 11:20 am. I was very annoyed and it was very cold and rainy outside on this day. Deike was waiting with me and I was very happy about that. I met a german girl during the transfer. She had the same flight as me. She was very nice and is also working in Augsburg. My parents were waiting for me at the airport. I was very excited and happy to see them again. It was really nice to see and hug them.

END of the greatest experience in my life…
