    Introduction

On behalf of the team at Proven Energy, I

would like to welcome you to the 2010Proven Energy International Conference in

our home city of Glasgow, and thank you all

for the time and effort you have invested in

    attending.

The growth of Proven Energy over the last

30 years has happened at the same time as

the rejuvenation of both Glasgow and our

venue, Hampden Park. We fully intend to bea growing part of the industrial life of the city

for many years to come as we all work to

drive the opportunities presented by the

explosive growth of the small wind segment of the global renewable energy market.

With the widespread arrival of government incentives, of every shape and style, most of us are

fortunate to be involved in markets which are exciting, constantly changing, and above all growing at

an exponential rate. To add a final, personal ingredient to the mix, as a new entrant to the small wind

industry, its an enjoyable place to be.

We have designed this event with the aim of giving us all an opportunity to cement our places in the

Proven Energy extended family, to meet like-minded colleagues and to be involved in networking,

experience sharing and bonding for our future together. You will (of course) hear of new

developments from Proven Energy, but the event will be as interactive as possible, where we all have

something to give and an opportunity to listen and learn.

Once again, thank you for coming, and I hope you have a rewarding visit.

    Paul Aston, CEO

Coolpower Products Ltdis a cleantech company with platform technology for optimising micro-generator output,

electrical network stabilisation and enabling Smart Grids. The EMMA (Energy and Micro-generator Manager) underpins

the current market offering and is used to control the output from micro-generators. This provides significant benefits to

    installers, customers and utility companies.

Over several years Coolpower has developed, tested, deployed and patented EMMA. The validated technology hasbeen deployed on more than 100 sites in the UK, France and Ireland. It is mainly used to optimise micro-generators

installed in domestic dwellings and small commercial buildings. Instead of exporting about 50% of what is generated to

the grid the EMMA diverts the electricity to hot water or heating production. In the UK this effectively quadruples the value

of the otherwise exported electricity without impacting the gross generation feed in tariff and therefore enhances the

return on wind turbine installations. The EMMA is the Energy Broker and the market differentiator.

As part of its ongoing development programme Coolpower has introduced the EMMA GVS (grid voltage stabilisation) unit

to the market. The EMMA GVS is used to limit the micro-generator output to the grid to parameters set by the network

operator. The EMMA GVS is being trialled in the UK and Ireland, and is on track to become an approved technology in

the near future. All the network operators in the UK and Ireland have been engaged with and support this programme.

In Ireland the EMMA GVS enables up to 50kW turbines to be connected to the network with a maximum export capacity

of 6/11 kW. The benefits of the EMMA GVS are:-

    Reduction/elimination of network upgrades

Ability to install larger turbines than the network operator would otherwise allow e.g. 15kW turbine on a G83

    (3.7kW) connection

Increased use of electricity on site and savings for customer

Stabilisation of voltage and reduced tripping of micro-generator

Hutchinson Engineeringis the leading designer and manufacturer of steel solutions for a wide range of industries

including renewable energy, telecoms, petrochemical and pharmaceutical. It is a privately owned engineering company

and has over 30 years experience.

Hutchinson Engineerings bespoke structures support turbines ranging from 1kW to 50kW. For turbine servicing its

structures can be raised and lowered using the integrated gin pole or the more advanced hydraulic ram which reduces

the time taken to raise the pole from 40 minutes to just 60 seconds.

Hutchinson Engineering has developed an innovative foundation design which requires just a third of the concrete used in

traditional bases. Combining this with its advanced ram towers, which have no need for a second concrete base, reduces

the cost to its clients and the environment.

All of its structures are custom-built with a high level of detailed analysis to ensure current code compliance and meet

    safety standards over their lifetime.

    History of Glasgow

The origin of the city of Glasgow is unclear. One of the earliest records in the city was the consecration of the cathedral,

placing Glasgow as an Episcopal centre. Soon after, there are records of a settlement nearby and a market to serve the

local settlers. Glasgow continued to grow at a relatively slow pace until Pope Nicholas V founded the University of

Glasgow in 1451, putting the citys name firmly on the international map. By the 1770s, Glasgows population was around

60,000 and new suburbs were being formed to the west, unaware that the city was on the verge of an Industrial

    Revolution.

During the next sixty years, the population more than doubled in the city with English, Irish and rural Scottish people

attracted to Glasgow in search of work and a better life. Popular industries in Glasgow included textiles, iron works,

engineering amongst others; and later, the most successful industry of all- shipbuilding.

Glasgow suffered, like many other major cities, during the first and second world wars, although not only due to the war

itself. Some of the consequences included the great depression, housing issues and overcrowding; however, a campaign

to bring the city to life was embarked on to improve the living conditions of many of the citys residents.

From the end of the war in 1945 until the present day, Glasgow has seen a huge transformation from a depression-ridden

city to a city of style, culture and substance. Its blend of internationally-acclaimed museums and galleries, stunning

architecture, vibrant nightlife, fabulous shopping and superlative wining and dining prove irresistible. Vibrant and energetic, Glasgow enjoys a year-round buzz that visitors just love, with an arts scene that regularly produces

cutting-edge productions and attracts high-profile exhibitions that led to the city being crowned as a European City of

    Culture in 1990.

With a population of around 580,000, Glasgow is Scotland's largest city and is the commercial capital of Scotland. It is the

UK's largest retail centre after London and is famed for its shopping facilities. Glasgow was also named the UK's City ofArchitecture and Design in 1999 and its architecture is certainly an attraction in itself, particularly its impressive Victorian

structures and of course, the unique masterpieces of one of the city's most celebrated sons, architect and designer

    Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

Glasgow is one of Europe's top 20 financial centres and is home to many of Scotland's leading businesses. Situated in

the Central Belt of Scotland on the west coast it is easily accessible by road, rail and air. The city is situated on the banks

of the River Clyde, at the heart of Scotlands only conurbation.

    History of Hampden

On 9 July 1867, "a group of gentlemen met for the purpose of starting a football team" and the Queen's Park Football

Club was born. It soon became a leading exponent of the game and was one of the founder members of the (English)

Football Association as well as its Scottish counterpart. Proud of its amateur status, and showing a confidence in the

game's future, the Club's general committee in 1903 purchased 33 acres of land on the south side of Glasgow and built

the largest and most technically advanced stadium in the world, Hampden Park.

It was immediately adopted as Scotland's National Stadium and became a Mecca for clubs and international players

everywhere. Its natural bowl shape and extensive terraces sustained attendances of around 150,000. In those days,

crowd control was less stringent than now. Amongst the records are:

    1937 : attendance 149,415 Home International : Scotland v England

1937 :attendance 146,433 Scottish Cup Final : Celtic v Aberdeen

    1970 : attendance 136,505 European Cup Semi-Final : Celtic v Leeds United

As with all great architectural feats, time proved an enemy for the Stadium. In the mid-1970s, it became clear that

Hampden required major rebuilding and refurbishment. At that time, only the main South Stand was covered and seated.

Elsewhere, spectators stood exposed to the vagaries of the Scottish weather. Concourses, washrooms, kiosks, medical

services, media facilities, players' changing rooms, hospitality areas and emergency service provision reflected the

Stadium's past, not the status it still claimed as a leading international venue.

Attempts were made to draw together funding packages to support redevelopment programmes but, for various reasons,

none was successful. In later years, the disasters at football stadia at Heysel, Sheffield and Bradford highlighted thedeficiencies and brought change through a pincer movement of directives from football's World and European governing

bodies and from national governments. Stadia had to be upgraded to provide safe and comfortable accommodation.

The task of rebuilding Hampden began in 1990 with the formation of the National Stadium Committee, which was charged

with examining and addressing the means of drawing together the financial package to rebuild the National Stadium on its

current site. At the time, other sites, in out-of-town locations, were identified and proposed by developers and local

authorities. None of these schemes proved sustainable. In media debate, the general public and former players regarded

Hampden as the spiritual home of football and wanted to retain it as the National Stadium. The National Stadium Committee drew together 12 million of funding to upgrade the North and East Stands, carry out

external landscaping, improve car parking provision and provide hospitality lounges. These elements of work were

completed in February 1994 and the Stadium hosted a full international match, Scotland v The Netherlands. The nextphase was the rebuilding of the South Stand and the redevelopment of the West Stand. This was completed in May 1999

at a cost of 59 million. The original budget of 51 million was exceeded by 15.7%.The new South Stand (with seating for17,000 spectators) opened in May 1999 with a Festival of Football followed by the Scottish Cup Final. The Stadium Capacity is currently 52,000.The East Stand has been redeveloped to improve supporter facilities,

extending internal concourses and improving entry and exit

routes. The work was completed on time and on budget.TheStadium is graded as a Five Star stadium by UEFA. The only

other ground in Scotland that has Five Star status is Ibrox.Hampden Park is a stadium to be proud of - it provides a home

for the Scotland team, a neutral venue for semi-finals and finals,

and a first-class facility for a wide range of events.http://www.hampdenpark.co.uk/
