Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare Internal Medicine Program aims to train our physicians to provide patient centered care with compassion and integrity to patients with diverse backgrounds, cultures, and diferent socioeconomic factors within a community that is medically underserved. The academic focus ensures training highly skilled and compassionate clinicians to provide our community with exceptional healthcare including basic training on clinical research and quality improvement. The experience provided in our Internal Medicine residency program makes possible the formation of a well-rounded physician who is proficient in the six core competencies or domains established by ACGME. Scholarly activity remains an integral part of our training program in order to prepare our residents to be agents of change and improvement of our healthcare system.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) approved the Internal Medicine residency program in 2018. The main teaching sites for the Internal Medicine program is Del Sol Medical Center and Las Palmas Medical Center, in sunny El Paso, Texas.

Both medical centers are structured on a solid foundation with excellent teaching physicians and advanced medical equipment making the sites an ideal educational training for resident medical education. Residents can expect to acquire lifelong clinical experiences within a multicultural patient population. The clinical knowledge gained will sharpen the resident’s clinical and leadership skills needed to provide quality patient care.

Our program provides instrumental clinical and leadership residency training with emphasis on extensive in-patient and progressive continuity clinics. Residents will build a dynamic knowledge base and enable them to practice quality healthcare.

Our faculty

Pedro Blandon MD, Program Director

• Blandon completed his medical school with honors at the Universidad de Guadalajara in 1995, his residency in Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2000, and his fellowship in Nephrology at the University of New Mexico in 2002.

• From 2009 to 2015, Dr. Blandon worked as the Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Paul L. Foster School of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Blandon currently serves as program director for the HCA Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare Internal Medicine program.

Asha Kurian MD, Associate Program Director

• Asha Kurian, M.D. is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician who attended St. George’s University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. AZ.

• Dr. Kurian has been a hospitalist since 2009 and has held various leadership roles.

• In 2019, she assumed the role of Assistant Program Director for the HCA Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Luis Martin MD, Associate Program Director

• Luis A. Martin, M.D. is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician who attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed his residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso. In 2018, he assumed the role of Assistant Program Director of the HCA Internal Medicine Residency Program.
