Module 2: HIV Prevention Specialist TrainingCTR Module 2: HIV Prevention Specialist Training is a one-day, in-person course. It is designed to provide analysis of possible external and internal socioeconomic, cultural, and social factors a client may experience. Participants will also learn about injection drug use and syringe access programs, as well as additional behavioral assessments and referral options available to clients. Partner Services (PS) Certification TrainingThe two-day Partner Services Certification Training for Local Health Departments is designed to familiarize staff with a number of strategies to control and prevent the spread of HIV and other STDs. Utilizing the updated “Recommendations for Conducting Integrated Partners Services for HIV/STD Prevention”, participants will learn about program policy and practices for conducting PS activities. Emphasis will be placed on techniques for working with individuals diagnosed with HIV and other STDs to identify their at-risk partners, so prevention counseling, testing, and referral services can be provided. Participants will learn skills to conduct thorough field investigations and techniques for personal safety. In addition, participants will learn skills to enhance the delivery of partner services.
Intended Audience: This course is required for all HIV Test Counselors who are employed in a local health department and who are designated to conduct PS field investigation activities.

HIV & Reentry Programming for Returning CitizensThis update will examine prevention and care services needs of persons living with HIV within corrections. The United States correctional system is comprised of local and tribal jails, state prisons, federal prisons, military and immigration facilities, and community corrections facilities, which includes probation and parole programs. This training will focus on state prisons. According to the CDC, epidemiologic surveys indicated, in 2015, the prevalence of HIV was approximately 1.3% among inmates in correctional facilities, which is markedly higher than the 0.3-0.4% HIV prevalence in the general United States population. This update will provide information and discuss ways in which local health departments and community partners can provide effective services to clients who are returning citizens.
