2 Transport and unpacking

2.1 TransportDespite the robust design of the unit, the components are sensitive to strong vibrations and impacts. Duringtransport the device must therefore be protected from mechanical stress. Therefore, please use the originalpackaging.

WARNINGRisk of damage to the deviceIf the device is transported in cold weather or is exposed to extreme variations in tempera-ture, make sure that moisture (condensation) does not form on or inside the device.

The device should be left to adapt to room temperature slowly before it is commissioned. Shouldcondensation occur, a delay time of approximately 12 hours must be allowed before the unit is switched on.

2.2 UnpackingProceed as follows to unpack the unit:

1. Remove packaging.2. Do not discard the original packaging. Keep it for future relocation.3. Check the delivery for completeness by comparing it with your order.4. Please keep the associated paperwork. It contains important information for handling the unit.5. Check the contents for visible shipping damage.

If you notice any shipping damage or inconsistencies between the contents and your order, you should notifyBeckhoff Service.

3 Product description

3.1 Product overview

The Control Panels from the CP39xx-14xx series in a stainless steel finish are control and operating devicesthat meet the strict hygiene requirements in the pharmaceutical, food and packaging industries.

The Panels with IP65 protection are characterized by an optimum housing design with minimized gaps.

The housing geometry and an optimized frame profile allow liquids to run off and prevent the accumulation ofcontamination.

The multi-touch screen is equipped with a laminated polyester film and thus offers increased splinteringprotection, which can avoid contamination of the products in the worst case.

Further features, such as the resistance of the polished stainless steel surface, the polyester film and theFDA-approved seals to a large number of chemical cleaning agents (see Chemical resistance of stainlesssteel panel with flush-mounted touch screen [} 36]) cover all requirements for the use of the Control Panelin hygienic areas.

For convenient operation there are versions with emergency stop and short-stroke keys with LED ringlighting in addition to the capacitive multi-touch screen.

The stainless steel Control Panels are designed for mounting on a 48 mm mounting arm tube system. Theseparately available mounting arm adapter (C9900-M759) protects all connections and cables against dirtand chemical influences at the same time.

The range is rounded off by further accessories such as an RFID reader, an external USB port or an adapterfor tilting the Control Panel (see Options [} 13]).

5.5 Connecting the Control Panel

5.5.1 Connecting cablesThe connections are located on the rear side of the Control Panel and are documented in the chapterConnections [} 10].

When connecting cables to the Control Panel, please adhere to the following order:

• Disconnect the Control Panel from the power supply.• Connect all cables at the Control Panel and at the devices to be connected.• Ensure that all screw connections between connectors and sockets are tight!• Reconnect all devices to the power supply.

5.5.2 Protective earth

The low-resistance protective earthing of the Control Panel is established via the earthing bolt underneaththe connections or in the connection compartment (if supplied with mounting arm adapter). At least a 6 mm²cable should be used for the protective earth.

6 Operation

6.1 Switching the Control Panel on and off

6.1.1 Switching onThe Control Panel does not have its own mains switch. On switching on the power supply the Control Panelwill also be switched on.

6.1.2 Shutting down and switching offControl software such as is typically used on Industrial PCs permits various users to be given different rights.A user who is not permitted to close software may also not switch the Industrial PC off, as data can be lostfrom the data storage device by switching off while software is running.

NOTEFirst shut down, then switch off!If the Industrial PC is switched off while the software is writing a file to the data storage device, this file willbe destroyed. Control software usually writes data to the data storage device automatically at intervals of afew seconds, for which reason there is a very high probability of causing damage by switching off whilesoftware is running.

NOTESwitching off the Industrial PCOnce you have shut down the Industrial PC, you must switch it off for at least 10 seconds in order to beable to restart it! After switching on the power supply again the Industrial PC starts automatically.

6.2 OperationThe Control Panel is operated via the touch screen.

NOTEDamage to the touch screenThe touch screen may only be operated with your finger or the touch screen pen. The operator may weargloves but there must be no hard particles such as metal shavings, glass splinters embedded in the glove..

6.3 Maintenance

6.3.1 CleaningThe device can be cleaned with a damp, soft cloth. Do not use any aggressive cleaning materials, thinners, scouring material or hard objects that could cause scratches.

6.3.2 MaintenanceThe Control Panel needs no maintenance.
