Adam Makes CHS State Rugby Team Adam Hart (Year 12 and School Captain) has been
selected in the Combined High Schools (CHS) NSW
State Rugby team. Last week Adam played for North
Coast at the CHS State Rugby Championships in
Armidale. The team won crucial early matches
against Sydney West and Sydney North West.
Sydney West were the current state champions.
Adam described the opponents in these matches as
very big with many having Polynesian backgrounds
(big and strong!). “Our team committed to our
defensive plan and just never backed off” he said.
“One of the mainstays of our success was our team
cohesion. We were coached well and we played as a unit.” After wins in the
first two games they played Sydney South West for a place in the
championship final. Unfortunately they were defeated but the team won the
third place play off defeating Central Coast. Players that qualify for the State
Rugby side have the opportunity to be selected in the NSW All Schools teams
and subsequently the Australian Schoolboys. Congratulations to Adam on his
selection in the state squad and best wishes for coming matches.
Beef Meets Reef Well done to all our students who represented the school at the Beef Meets
Reef parade. It is very pleasing to see students involve themselves in many
ways in the life of our community.
NSW Rugby Gala Day On Tuesday 56 students attended the NSW Rugby Gala Day at Woodlawn.
The students played in five teams – three boys teams and two girls teams. It
was inspiring to see their efforts on the day, making the most of the skills and
fitness gained through their training sessions. All of our teams played well on
the day and were very competitive. Special thanks to Mrs Price, Mr Cleaver,
Mr Andrews and Mr Manning. Well done to each of our students on what was
an excellent day.
Kinder 2018 Information Night On Monday 15th May 2017 we welcomed a group of smiling and enquiring
mums and dads assessing school placement for their child to start in
Kindergarten next year. The group were addressed by current Kinder teacher
Mrs Wall, Ms Durhiem and Mrs Sharpe. It was a most informative evening
and we look forward to welcoming a happy group of children into our Kinder
class of 2018. If anyone missed the evening and would still like to learn more
about enrolling in our school next year further information can be gained from

Careers Corner The following resource and information is
available at the schools careers website - www.evansriverk12careers.com
Record of School Achievement (RoSA) – The RoSA is a cumulative credential for
students who leave school before completing
their HSC. It was introduced for school leavers in Year 10 in 2012. The RoSA lists all
subjects undertaken in Years 9 and 10 and - where applicable - Years 11 and 12 courses
completed by the student (up until the HSC exams), along with the grade awarded.
It can be an important document for school
leavers who are seeking employment. Further information can found
from the drop down menu
HSC/RoSA and selecting “RoSA
Information”.

CHS Regional Hockey Congratulations to Kalani Moss, Utah Chilcott, Luca Brown and Donovan
Moss who all participated at Zone level in Grafton in the Girls and Boys Open
Hockey Competition. Kalani and Luca were both successful in selection in
regional teams with Utah chosen as a shadow player. Utah’s selection as a
shadow player was an enormous success as he has only been playing for 12
months and was competing for selection from about 20 boys who have been
playing the game since early childhood. Well done to all students!
Mrs Connie D’Anna

A very warm Evans River welcome to Jodie Taylor. Jodie was the successful canteen supervisor applicant
and shall be job sharing along side Fay Granger in the school canteen. Jodie has a strong background in hospitality, attending Evans River K-12 School and helped start the school’s very own café, ‘Café Sharkies’. We are fortunate that Jodie has managed several businesses in and around Evans Head, supervising many of our current students. Evans River students are very happy to have their part-time job supervisor “Tuckshop Jodie” as a familiar face in the canteen. Please make Jodie feel welcome, drop in and say hello.
Evans River secondary students were hands on in the classroom this week, including Mr Cleaver’s outdoor maths lesson on surface area of a sphere using fruit and Mrs Cooper’s Year 9 students were busy building earthquake proof structures. Learning at its best!
Evans River are fortunate to have many students that excel across many sporting and academic codes. Congratulations to all sporting teams and students who have excelled in their chosen field over the past several weeks.
