CORPORATE NEWS

To all employees of SilverCrest, CONGRATULATIONS! Silvercrest Properties has received special recognition of being a “Top Workplace 2017”, a ranking that places

us among the best of the best in Minnesota! The evaluation of the Top Workplaces requires employees nominate the company for consideration, then participate in an employee survey. Results of the surveys are reviewed by a company contracted through the Star Tribune and the Top 150 companies are selected based on survey results. Thousands of companies and their employees participate in the survey each year, and we are honored to have been selected. Each of you make SilverCrest a great place to work! Thank you for putting residents first and living the core values of SilverAdvantage each day. Celebrate!

Mike Gould, President of SilverCrest Properties, received the E.J. Plesko Distinguished Speaker Award in Real Estate Development on Thursday, November 2, 2017.

The E.J. Plesko Award is part of the E.J. Plesko Distinguished Speaker Series, which features speakers who embody the “Wisconsin Tradition” in their spirit, imagination, entrepreneurial skills and enthusiasm for improving the quality of the built environment. The E.J. Plesko Distinguished Speaker Series was created to bring the considerable real-world development expertise of alumni and board members to all University of Wisconsin real estate students. It was funded in 2007 by a gift from the late E.J. Plesko, former Graaskamp board member, who was the founder and past president of E.J. Plesko and Associates, Inc. Mike is the first speaker in the series to provide insight into the senior housing industry. His message to the students provided insight into real estate investment, development and building a successful management company.

Apartment interiors are being upgraded to include new kitchens, luxury vinyl wood flooring and stone countertops. The continuum of care will now include senior independent living and assisted living apartments along with Reflections, memory care, for those residents requiring personalized care due to dementia. Residents will find a broad range of amenities at Village Shores designed to promote a healthy lifestyle:

RESIDENT PROFILES

Jeanette Swenson grew up in the small town

of Thorp, Wisconsin and worked as a bookkeeper with Thorp Finance Corporation. She moved to Minneapolis and met “The Love of her Life”, Bob Swenson. The two celebrated their 66th anniversary this fall! Jeanette continued to work as a bookkeeper until starting a family. She

cared for her two loving children who blessed them with four fantastic grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Jeanette and Bob loved taking the children camping, fishing, and often traveled south to visit family over the holidays. Bob worked as a manager of a plumbing company while Jeanette held down the home, tended the children, and worked in her flower gardens. Jeanette is handy with the needle as well as doing beautiful embroidery, crewel work, sewing and quilting. Each one of her grandchildren is the proud owner of one of her beautiful quilts. Later in life Jeanette fell in love with golf and travel. She and Bob traveled to Europe, China, Thailand, Chiang Mai, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico & Spain. After retirement, Jeanette and Bob headed south to Texas during the winter months and spent time cruising too. Jeanette also enjoys spending time with her family. If granted one wish it would be to see her grandchildren happily married! She loves to attend as many activities as time allows her here at SilverCreek. Currently, Jeanette enjoys reading, coloring, walking and exercise classes. Jeanette was awarded Most Improved Rider for Team SilverCreek’s NuStepping to End Alzheimer’s this past summer. As an ambassador for SilverCreek, she loves to meet and welcome new residents and staff in the community.

COMPANY EVENTS

PICNIC AND COMMUNITY CHALLENGE TROPHY!

The SilverCrest company picnic was on August 31st this year. The SilverAdvantage Committee did a great job

selecting a new site; Elm Creek Nature Preserve, preparing for fun and games, deciding on delicious Famous Dave’s BBQ for lunch, recognizing employees 5, 10, 15 and 20 year anniversaries and motivating communities to participate and compete for the 2017 SilverAdvantage Community Challenge Trophy. Some competed in yard games during the afternoon and of course everybody was present for a few rounds of heads and tails. The Village Shores Renovation Team were the defending Community Challenge Champions and they came to the 2017 picnic confident they could retain the title. Parkshore and SilverCreek on Main had other ideas however and the competition between these two communities came down to who could find and move the largest boulder within the designated timeframe. Congratulations Parkshore for winning the 2017 SilverAdvantage Community Challenge Trophy! Parkshore used all the tools at their disposal, finding a blanket in the trunk of Mike Metzler’s car that became a sling allowing the team to pick up and move the largest boulder! See everybody next year!

Lori has been with Silvercrest for 15 years. She started

in dining services as a PT waitstaff and then promoted into a fulltime waitstaff position. In 2013 she changed roles and became our Lead Housekeeper, she held this position for 2 years. Because she missed the daily interactions with the residents she went back to being a fulltime waitstaff in the dining

room. Just a few short months ago she was promoted to Assistant DR supervisor. Lori says she loves the opportunity to serve the residents . Lori grew up in Siren, Wisconsin. She had a graduating class of 38 students. She met her husband Dave at a camping resort in

Danberry, Wisconsin. Dave is a plastic mold injection manager for a medical device company. They married in 1993 and have 2 sons, Dylan and Dallas. Dylan is a graduate of Fridley High School and is now in college, Dallas is a sophomore at Fridley High School. She has lived in Fridley for 22 years. She loves her neighborhood and nearby nature park. Lori enjoys being outdoors, gardening, and making flower beds. Some other things she likes to do in her free time are working out and cheering her son on in sports.

Jeremy was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. As a

young boy, he spent his summers in Cedar Falls, Iowa where he enjoyed playing outside in the wide-open countryside. After high school, Jeremy studied creative writing at Washtenaw Community College. Post-graduation, he worked for 9 years as the Banquet Chef at the Ann Arbor Sheraton Hotel. Here, Jeremy’s passion for food got cooking!

Jeremy was accepted at The Culinary Institute of America-New York. During his time in school, he kept busy by working as the line cook at two restaurants, The Gilded Otter and Bull and Buddha.

He met his wife, Barbara, while working at a restaurant called 2 Taste in Hyde Park, NY. Barbara was a regular. After dating eight months, they moved to Edina, MN to be with Barbara’s daughter, Mia. Soon after their marriage and move, they were expecting a second daughter, Lilly. As his first job in MN, Jeremy joined our Village Shores Team as a Chef, soon to transfer to Summit Place. Jeremy currently spends his time working on house projects and working as the commissioner for his Fantasy Football League. He and his family love to visit his mother and grandmother in Florida around the holidays and they plan to visit the Bay Area in CA when Mia graduates high school. As the Summit Place Dining Director, Jeremy enjoys building relationships with the residents as well as the autonomy and ability to use his creativity when cooking.

A MESSAGE FROM: DENISE BARNETT - VP OF OPERATIONS

It has been a year since I joined SilverCrest

Properties and I see leaders in our communities living this every day through our core values of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. I am so proud to be a part of a team that truly believes that success is the outcome of working together to create a culture of excellence, accountability,

relationships and wellness. I have the pleasure of spending time in all of our communities and I can confidently say this is a distinct point of difference for SilverCrest. The Executive Director Team has focused on leadership development this past year through sharing best practices, reading books and literature allowing us to hone our core competencies in the foundation of leadership. We are committed to ensuring SilverCrest remains a leader in senior care and we couldn’t accomplish this without dedicated employees who practice our SilverAdvantage Program and make a difference every day in the lives of those we serve. We are so proud to announce that our SilverCrest Team once again received the Top 150 Workplaces Award! This award is based upon feedback from employees through a survey conducted by the Star Tribune. We are honored to be included in the list of Top Workplaces in Minnesota for 2017! As I reflect on this past year, there are many advancements at each community and here are a few of the highlights. The redecorating of Meadowood Shores lobby, implementation of Cyber Seniors Program and a climb in occupancy at our Brightondale Community. Esplanade Gardens has recommitted to being an integral part of the Converse, Texas community reaching out to city groups, hosting multiple events, supporting community fundraisers and raising occupancy.

Kingsley Shores is developing their leadership team and maintained very strong occupancy. They are looking forward to growing their community and beginning construction in 2018. The Shorewood Team continues to have a strong presence in the Rochester Community hosting events, working closely with surrounding businesses and providing excellence to those they serve. We celebrated our two year anniversary of SilverCreek on Main with growing occupancy, development of our new Enhanced Assisted Living Program and passing our first Comprehensive Home Care License Survey. Summit Place continues to strengthen their Parkinson’s Program through ongoing training to ensure a keen understanding of the unique needs of those who suffer from this disease. They hosted many events for the community donating to the Alzheimer’s Association and the local police and fire departments. Parkshore residents were featured in the Star Tribune and recognized as pioneers of a movement to openly discuss end of life through a book discussion group model. They remain very strong in occupancy and are looking forward to adding a new performance room within the next year. Our extensive renovation project at Village Shores will be fully complete in the next few months and they will be settled into their new space. Hats off to this team for managing the construction and providing a pleasant community for the residents and their families. As we head into 2018, I look forward to a year of growth and continued success!

“Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in actions” by Harold S. Geneen.

SU STIGNEY - PROGRAM DIRECTOR / BRIGHTONDALE, MN

Brightondale Community. Su always has a smile, radiates energy and enthusiasm and shows genuine concern for each individual she meets.

She shows concern for co-workers, knows each resident and most of all is dedicated to SCP core values and shows respect to all we serve. Here are some of Su’s highlights:

MIKE METZLER - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR / PARKSHORE, MN

Mike started working for SCP back in 2002! He is the Executive Director

at our Parkshore Community and is the Interim Executive Director at other SCP communities in need. He most recently completed 6 months supporting SCOM and has also supported Esplanade Gardens in

Texas and Walnut Ridge in Iowa. Mike consistently demonstrates the SilverAdvantage Core Values. He is a strong leader and leads in a way that easily allows others to follow his example. He is known for his sense of humor, positive “can do” attitude, professionalism, leadership skills and his excellent communication skills. Mike believes residents should remain independent as long as possible and supports all of the programs at Parkshore including the “Conversations That Matter” a resident-led group, Annual Alzheimer’s Walk and other annual fundraisers for St. Louis Park Emergency Program (STEP) and Honor Flight. Mike has developed an effective leadership team at Parkshore allowing us to pull him to provide support to other communities while still ensuring Parkshore thrives. He does anything and everything! His responsibilities are vast. He serves food, escorts residents, manages building concerns, has filled in as the receptionist and setup the Rummage Sale! He is not afraid to get his hands dirty! Overall, he is the SilverAdvantage Core Values!

BARB BURNETTE - ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR / PARKSHORE, MN

Barb has worked for SCP for 18 years and is currently the Assistant Executive Director. Barb works with residents each day. She helps them to feel safe, locate the right apartment, attends care level meetings and helps them

transition within the continuum of care. Barb leads by example always greeting residents with a smile and giving them her undivided attention and the respect they deserve. She is professional, calm, compassionate and knows everyone by name. While Mike Metzler, the Executive Director, is out assisting other communities she has stepped up to help lead Parkshore in his absence always maintaining a smile and calm demeanor.

As the Assistant Executive Director, putting residents first is the number one priority in her day. Her team says she makes it seem so natural! Her professionalism is evident when she maintains resident privacy, shows concern for their needs and identifies their challenges as opportunities. Barb has taught her team that it is the disease and not the person when residents express themselves in a manner which may offend another. She sees the good in everyone!

8 | PROMOTING WELLNESS FOR A VIBRANT LIFE

SU STIGNEY - PROGRAM DIRECTOR / BRIGHTONDALE, MN

Su has worked for SCP for 17 years and currently is the Program Director at our

Geneen.

1 | PROMOTING WELLNESS FOR A VIBRANT LIFE

As I look back on the history of SilverCrest Properties and our success I am grateful that our communities are located on some great real estate which has

allowed us to evolve at each property to meet market and demographic changes while growing each community over time. I am proud of the growth of the operating company through new projects and expanding the services we provide. We have also evolved over the years with the addition of the continuum of care in each community and making Wellness a point of difference. There is one area, however, that I think is the most important; understanding that this is a People Business, where relationships need to be developed and nurtured; with our residents and families, business partners, with the cities where we operate, with the medical community and by giving back to the community at large through support of Honor Flight, STEP and Meals on Wheels to name a few. The success of our business demands that we, as employees of SilverCrest, have strong working relationships with each other; respecting each other’s talents and differences, showing appreciation to our teammates, recognizing each other through SilverAdvantage, supporting each other in challenging times and celebrating accomplishments. I am proud of each of you for making a difference in our residents lives each day. Thank you!
