APPLICANTS

We are recruiting young people aged 18-30 years old who are residents of either the UK, Sweden, Estonia, Romania or Turkey and who are interested in learning more about Social Entrepreneurship.

There will be 5 places per country, making 25 participants in total (including 5 youth leaders).

There is no need to have prior knowledge of Social Entrepreneurship, but you may have an idea for a social enterprise that you would like to develop.

WHAT IS REQUIRED FROM YOU

Participants will be expected to attend all sessions, to actively contribute to sessions and to share your ideas, passions and energy with the rest of the group. It would also be helpful for you to do some research before attending about social enterprises in your country, to be able to share this information with the group and collect the best ideas from across Europe.

We will also be hosting Intercultural Evenings where participants will be invited to share parts of their culture from their home country, this could include food, music, dance, images, quizzes and games. Please think about this before you arrive and if possible bring some food/drink to share with the group.

Accommodation

We will be hiring an entire youth hostel just for us and we should have no more than 4 people in one room. There are also some smaller rooms that can accommodate 1-3 people. The hostel is located in Hathersage, Hope Valley, Derbyshire, S32 1EH in the Peak District, one of Britain’s biggest and most beautiful national parks. YHA Hathersage is only 700 metres from the station on the Manchester to Sheffield train line.

Travel

Hathersage is in-between Manchester and Sheffield; it has its own train station and is accessible via train or local buses from Sheffield. Train travel in the UK is expensive and if you are looking to keep within the travel budget we would recommend travelling via coach if coming from London airports. Manchester is probably the most accessible main airport for connecting with Hathersage and is only around 1hr 30 minutes by train.

If you are travelling to London airports, we recommend you purchase advance rail connection tickets as these will be cheaper – London (airports) to Sheffield will typically be 3.5-4hr by train or coach. Coach tickets are also an option from Megabus or National Express. There is another smaller airport close to Sheffield called Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood (DSA), which has flights from Bucharest, Riga, Antalya, Dalaman etc.
