THE SERVICE LIFE OF THE LIGHTING SOLUTION ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND OPERATING COSTS

Lighting uniformity (Uo)

The lighting uniformity (Uo) factor on the task area should reach a value between 0.4 and 0.7.

Accurate color rendering (CRI)

The color rendering index should be greater than 80 but can vary from 20 to 90 depending on the type of space.

The employees’ working comfort and well-being (UGRL)

The glare rating at workstations should amount to less than 16 and not exceed 28 depending on the type of space.

An appropriate level of illuminance must be provided: 750 lx – electrical and electronic

industry: assembly work, fine assembly lines, e.g. telephones, computers

500 lx – vehicle construction and repair: body work and assembly

300 lx – food product industry: sorting and washing of products, packing

200 lx – power stations: machine halls, restrooms

150 lx – rolling mills, iron and steel works: production plants with occasional manual operation

100 lx – storage: store and stockrooms

Color temperature (CCT/Tcp)

Luminaires with a color temperature of 4000 K have a positive influence on the comfort, concentration and general well-being of employees.

SAFE LIGHT

Natural and artificial optical radiation sources can pose a serious photobiological threat to human eyes and skin. Ultraviolet radiation ranks among the most active and dangerous causes of this type of threat. However, visible light and infrared radiation may also be hazardous when certain exposure limits are exceeded. Assessing the level of photobiological threat that can come from optical radiation emitted from luminaires is a complicated process. It requires access to specialized, calibrated measuring equipment and laboratory personnel with the highest technical competences. ES-SYSTEM has its own testing laboratory which operates according to SMT procedures (Supervised Manufacturer’s Testing – one of two manufacturer laboratories of this type in Poland), performing comprehensive photobiological testing.

The classification of luminaires in terms of their photobiological impact is based on risk groups which are defined as follows: Risk-free group 0: luminaires that do not pose a threat due

to photobiological hazards, Risk group 1: luminaires that are not hazardous in normal

conditions of use, Risk group 2: luminaires that do not pose a threat due to an

aversion to very bright light sources or thermal discomfort, Risk group 3: luminaires that are hazardous even following

temporary or brief exposure. Their use in general lighting is not permitted.

Most ES-SYSTEM luminaires are classified as risk‑free in group 0, which means that they do not pose a photobiological risk. This has been confirmed by the appropriate certificates.

LEDs provide better quality and healthier light. All ES-SYSTEM products are tested for photobiological safety and obtain relevant certificates.

The conscious use of LED luminaires is extremely important, so that the products are a perfect fit for the very specific requirements of each industrial facility. In addition to ensuring the technical adequacy of the designed lighting, it is also essential to provide the users with proper visual comfort. People acquire more than 80% of information about the environment through eyesight, which should translate into being aware of how essential it is to have appropriate lighting that acts as the carrier of this information. Suitable lighting conditions and the resulting visual comfort have a direct impact on the quality, safety and speed with which tasks are performed at work. An important element of a lighting installation is a properly designed lighting control system, which significantly improves the lighting’s energy efficiency, as well as its operating comfort.

Without a doubt, professional lighting installations with LED luminaires – especially those complemented by a lighting control system – can provide high quality lighting while significantly reducing electricity de-mand compared to conventional lighting solutions. In order to be able to appreciate the aforementioned quality and energy efficiency of the lighting, however, it has to operate reliably through the years. Even very competently devised lighting design will only be an empty promise of potential benefits if it isn’t based on luminaires of adequate quality to achieve its objectives.

COMPETENCE IS WHAT MATTERS

THE SPECIFICITY OF INDUSTRIAL LIGHTING

LED technology creates promising opportunities not only in terms of improving the energy efficiency of lighting installations, but it also opens up a different and innovative approach to lighting design in order to ensure its broadly understood quality.

Selecting the appropriate lighting equipment for specific working environments:

the industrial lighting installation should ensure the right quality of lighting for its users in order to create proper working comfort, increase its efficiency and reduce the occurrence of malfunctions

Luminaires intended for use in industrial and technical spaces – particularly those with LED technology – should be precisely adapted to the surrounding conditions in terms of the following: the ambient tem-perature, humidity and dust conditions, as well as the compatibility of the luminaire’s construction with the chemical composition of the working atmosphere. In addition to the basic working environment parameters like the IP rating and IK mechanical resistance, the luminaires should have a chemical compatibility chart with a declaration regarding the types of industrial and technical rooms they are suitable for, as well as their resistance to typical chemical compounds that can be found in those types of spaces.Metal luminaires meant for industrial and technical spaces should have a declared C-class (corrosion class). Industrial/technical luminaires should fulfill the requirements of the D‑mark, i.e. have a limited maximum housing temperature (<90°C). Technical luminaires used in food production facilities should hold a certif-icate of hygiene from the Polish National Institute of Public Health, as well as certificates confirming that their production process fulfills the HACCP system requirements, good manufacturing practices (GMP), and good hygiene practices (GHP), which serves as confirmation that they can also be used in companies holding the IFS or BRC Global Food Standard.

One of the requirements during the construction of production buildings is for them to have appropriate emergency lighting in-stallations. A reliable network ensures that persons present in the building remain safe in the event of dangerous situations resulting from a power outage when the general lighting doesn’t work, al-lowing for a quick and efficient evacuation. The correctness of the installation’s operation as well as the testing method and frequency are specified in detail by the standards and legal provisions that ap-ply to emergency lighting. The systems for the central monitoring of autonomous lighting and central emergency lighting power supply systems manufactured by us guarantee that all these conditions are met. The latest achievement in terms of emergency luminaire central monitoring systems is the ES-CTI DALI system, which was developed for the purpose of controlling, monitoring and testing emergency lighting luminaires.As the name suggests, the monitoring system was based on the popular – and most importantly – world-wide standard, the DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) communication system. DALI is a protocol for the communication between various elements of an electrical installation and the control system, regardless of the technological solutions used. The use of the DALI protocol gives a much wider array of possibilities than all other existing emergency luminaire monitoring systems. A new, revolutionary feature lies in the integration of emergency luminaires with the general lighting on the same communication buses. The control units are the most important element of the system. These devices are very intuitive

to use thanks to their pre-programming, which allows for easy con-nection to any computer, tablet or smartphone. In addition to the units, the topology of the system is complemented by emergency luminaires equipped with a microprocessor monitoring system. However, thanks to the standardization of the communication, the ES-CTI DALI system can also include general lighting luminaires, as well as motion and light sensors or control panels.

VERTEX is a lighting automation controller that collects data and monitors subordinate luminaires. It’s a place for storing information, which is why the connection from any device gives full administra-tion capability, allows for setting schedules and granting access to previous reports. The built-in DALI bus power supply makes it pos-sible to reduce costs related to the necessity of installing additional subcomponents and makes the system containing the unit fully au-tonomous. Thanks to innovative Ethernet communication solutions, the lighting control can be performed from any system platform with web browser support. The intuitive software allows for the quick creation of report logs respected by fire protection services, the simple configuration of the entire system, entering schedules, as well as obtaining information about the current status of each element of the system.

A lighting automation controller designed to control extensive general and emergency lighting systems. It allows remote con-trol, monitoring, configuration, and even maintenance of the devices connected within the system. It is a fully autonomous unit with three built-in communication protocols:

with the user via a convenient web application, with luminaires using the international DALI standard, with the Building Management System (BMS) via Modbus IP.
