GETTING READY FOR YOUR TEST IMPORTANT – PLEASE READEVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

1996 and newer OBD tested vehicles will not pass the test if the check engine light is on. It is advisable to have a professional determine the reason for the light being illuminated.

Vehicles will be rejected from testing if the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) computer status is NOT READY. OBD not ready can occur when a vehicle has recently been repaired,

a battery disconnected and/or replaced as well as; improper engine temperature, fuel level and blown fuses. In most cases, driving the vehicle under normal operation conditions will be sufficient in getting the vehicle ready.

As a last resort, if you are unable to get your vehicle ready for an OBD emission test, it may be required to perform the manufactures drive cycle. A drive cycle is a series of driving patterns in which the vehicle must be driven in order to get the vehicle ready for an emission inspection. Most drive cycles can be found Online or contact your vehicle’s manufacturer, or authorized repair facility.

• If you participate in an insurance program that monitors your vehicle’s operating data, be aware that you must remove the “Data Logger” from your vehicle’s Data Link Connector; which is in the vehicle’s computer connector.

• Most vehicles will be driven by station personnel. You will be required to move to a passenger seat or exit the vehicle.

• An overheated engine may cause your vehicle to fail. To avoid overheating while waiting, keep the engine running and, while in neutral or park, occasionally rev the engine for 15 seconds at a time. Turn off your air conditioner. Please do not bring passengers or pets.

• Trailers need to be removed from vehicle prior to entering the station property.

• If your vehicle fails an initial test or a paid re-test, you have the right to a free re-test if you return within 60 days and provide the repair information requested on the back of the vehicle inspection report.

• Voluntary Vehicle Repair Program (VVRP)Arizona’s Voluntary Vehicle Repair Program is designed to help those who have failed an emissions inspection off set the cost of repairing their vehicle. If your vehicle qualifi es, the VVRP will assist you with the required repair of your vehicle. The State of Arizona will pay up to $550.00 for repair of gasoline vehicles and up to $1,000.00 for repair of heavy duty diesel vehicles. Customers in the program may co-pay the fi rst $150.00 of repairs while the State will contribute up to the designated amounts. Learn more: http://www.azdeq.gov/VECS.

• Repairs made up to 60 days prior to the initial failure may be creditable toward a waiver. Once a waiver is granted, the vehicle is not eligible for future emission testing waivers.

• Before making necessary repairs, many vehicles have specifi c warranty provisions for emissions related repairs. Check your owner’s manual, emissions control warranty information pamphlet, or your dealer for information on whether your vehicle has warranty coverage.

• If your vehicle fails two tests, you may be eligible for a repair waiver for a fee of $15. This repair waiver is valid for the current vehicle registration only. Once a waiver is granted, the vehicle is not eligible for future emissions testing waivers.
