Trailer

Is it a teaser trailer or a theatrical trailer - how do we know?- We know that this is a theatrical trailer as it has intertitles, release

dates an the main characters that feature in the film.

How does the editing create a narrative?- The editing creates a narrative as it uses techniques such as L cuts to

anchor the meaning of one scene with another scenes sound and conversations. It also uses editing skills such as creating fast pace movement which connotes to the audience the type of genre the film may be. Also the use of slow to fast music creates a atmosphere of what may happen next which is signifying to the audience what the film may consist such as violence, mystery or death.

Analyse the visual style and editing of the trailer- Visual effects such as when we see extraordinary displays are very

effective to the audience as they notice what the film may involve such as extraordinary effects. The long shot of the whole room is also helpful as you can see the character exposition and forms a narrative.

What genre signifiers does the trailer use?- Editing and sound are very effective genre signifiers used in the trailer. For

example, the build up of slow to fast paced music shows to the audience a build up of narrative. The build up of narrative then will signify what type of genre the film is, in this case we know it’s a sci-fi thriller as we see visual aspects which connote the sci-fi genre and the music connotes the thriller genre.

How are intertitles utilised - what do they say and what is the effect?- The intertitles found in the trailer are ‘the director of the dark night’, ‘your

mind’, ‘is the scene of the crime’. The first intertitles will capture Dark Knight fans attention and make them want to look into Inception as its promoting the d rectors skills through another film he has directed. The two other intertitles are ways of capturing audience attention to identify what the film may be about. The intertitles show a form of narrative and what the film consists which we here can see, it is about the mind.

What do the audience learn about the actors, directors, producers of the film and are there any intertextual references.

- ‘Leonardo DiCaprio’ is a intertextual reference which captures the audience attention as If they were to like his other films, they would also check into inception as they may like and be able to relate from his other films.

What is the central image - how does it link with the trailer?

- The central image is of the protagonist in the trailer. This is very effective as when the audience identify that they are the same character, they can then look into the film. It is very appealing to the audience as the graphics match exactly to the trailer.

What fonts are used - do they synergise with the trailer?

- The fonts used also synergise with the trailer which is very effective to the audience attention. I think in my film trailer we would also use the same font so it can be more appealing and conventional to the audience.
