Presidents Report
Another week, another induction and another won-derful speaker. First let me welcome Lois Lindsayagain, we are look-ing forward to hav-ing her as a mem-ber, she has alreadystarted making acontribution ; youare now our 46thmember, Lois.Speaker Lisa Granton Social Media wasanother speakersuggested by ourmember Adrian andcontinued with ourinterest in having local speakers and finding out
more about what is going on in our local area. I stillhave difficulty with the concepts of virtual commu-nity, sometimes I think people kid themselves thatvirtual friends are real friends, however I can seewhat a useful role this Hub and the “Hubsters” arefulfilling. Eventually Lisa’s investment of time willpay off, even although she is really doing it for loveat the moment and it is paying off for the commu-nity. I loved the idea of the “meet up groups”; peo-ple often don’t want to be in the formal structure ofa club, but they still want contact and fun, so these
“meet up groups” still fulfill that very human need. Another great speaker.
Malcolm Sawle and I met with Greg Every“Programme Person” last Thursday and we can seethat we have even more great speakers coming up,including our own new members. Often these arethe most interesting speakers of all, so we haveabout 5 new members’ talks over the rest of theyear and that will be a treat for us all.
On Friday night I attended the penultimate meetingbefore the Rotary expo day at Southland on the 4th of October. It will be an opportunity to get our mes-

sage out there, as well as being a medium tolong term recruitment opportunity. We’ll have adisaster box there, as well as a Community po-licing car, and past participants in Rotary youthprogrammes. Thanks to those members whohave volunteered to staff the Information stalls.
One of the outcomes of the Board meeting theother week is that we have agreed to slightlyincrease the joining fee to $100. This is so thatwe can include the Beaumaris Rotary Jacketand Cap as part of the new member kit. Therewill be a slight subsidy from the operationalbudget for this. This will mean that new mem-bers will be bale to be clearly identified asRCOB members at community events and willaid in us looking professional for these events.Megan has impressed the Board with her dedi-
cation and commitment to our presentation, thebetter we look the more the community want tobe associated with us.David Hone has tasked me with sending roundthe sign up sheet for the Croquet night at RoyalMelbourne on the 22nd of October. Dress is ex-pected to be “late formal Colonial” so get thosepith helmets out. Thanks to David Hone for fill-ing in for David Lea, he has scared me enoughso that I have put my column in on time.Yours in Rotary

Royal Melbourne Fellowship Night 22 Thursday 22 OctoberFor this night I havenegotiated a twocourse meal for $35pp with 2 Croquet
Lawns and ballsthrown in.
We need to form 4teams of 4 players( We may have someteams with one ortwo more or less) Wewill be playing 2 peo-ple a ball with two
balls in each team. The basics of thegame and the ruleswill be explained byme and my rulingswill be final! Team A will play Team B on Lawn 1 and Team C play Team D on Lawn2. There will be a trophy for the two winning teams and awards for BOG and the ris-ing star.
Drinks and spectators will be allowed on the lawns and advice may be freely given.
Chairs and tables are available near by and some lawn side
I suggest we start the drinks and Croquet at 5.00 pm, although I am prepared to bethere earlier if anyone one wants to warm up.
Those not playing Croquet can come any time before 7.00 when we will go in forDinner.
I think it appropriate wecome dressed in formal late
colonial dress.
Croquet was used by the Brit-ish as social game and it canbe learnt in minutes.
The tactics are what reallycount!
Please sign up on a form sentround at a meeting or emailand let me know.
David Hone.

Live and silent auctions will be held to raise essential funds to support MITS's first students.
I am trying to put together a table of family, friends and Rotarians to celebrate and share inMITS's vision of providing pathways to greater opportunity for Indigenous students. I do hopesome Beaumaris Rotarians will join me in forming a table.
