A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTORS
Dear KenMont and KenWood Camp Families,
It has been a cold, snowy winter here at camp but the good news is that spring is here. It’s warming up and the snow is fi nally all gone. We truly cannot wait for the summer to arrive as we look forward to warm days under the KenMont and KenWood sun!
We have been spending much of the winter traveling all across the country visiting many of you, which has got us so excited for camp to begin. Before you know it you will be waterskiing in the lake, climbing the Rock Wall and racing Soap Box Derby Cars down the hill.
Start packing your bags because summer will be here real soon!
-Scott & Tom
We carry with us KenMont and KenWood’s traditi ons and memories as a guide to live, share

KENWOOD CORNER
Hey KenWood!
It was so much fun to see some of you at snow tubing in February. I must admit that all the snow has defi nitely gotten to me and I’m at the point that I’m hibernating and avoiding the cold weather. In order to escape, we were lucky enough to take a family vacation to the Bahamas. As I expected, I had two KenWood sightings on my trip. It defi nitely brought a big smile to my face!
I have been spending a lot of my time after school Skyping with new staff members. I’m so excited for you to meet your counselors. They are shaping up to be a great group of women with lots of energy and enthusiasm. Are you ready to match that energy? What are you looking forward to doing most when you get back to camp? I know I’m waiting to get into a kayak and trying to climb the Rock Wall faster than I did last summer. Let’s face it, I couldn’t be slower!!
I hope you’re getting on the website to track the countdown. I know I am! The video keeps me going until I can be with you. Until then...
xo, Deb
KENMONT BROTHERHOOD
How’s it going?
So much has changed since the last newsletter but so much has also stayed the same! We had two more great camper get-togethers. If you were not at our night time snow tubing event in NJ you don’t know what you missed. Seeing campers, staff, parents and Camp Directors flying down the hill on their tubes at Campgaw provided some great entertainment and laughs. Make sure you attend next winter! We also had the pleasure of heading to Maryland to see some of our camp families and to play some games at Dave and Busters. If I do say so myself my free throws were on and I was unstoppable, hopefully that continues this summer on the KM Courts.
Just thinking about how close it is to camp puts a big smile on my face, I hope the same can be said for you! I am looking forward to some great campfires, flagpole, all camp bbqs, North Spectacle Lake, seeing my camp family and just having some great care-free laughs. I would love to hear from you what are you looking forward to?
The KenMont Staff is shaping up to be one of the best staff yet with over 35 returning boys camp staff who are already to get back to the KMB. We have also been hiring some other multi-talented staff that are so ready for the KMB experience and they can’t wait to meet you. If you would like to send me a short e-mail either welcoming the staff or explaining to them what they have to look forward to please e-mail me and I will include it in our next newsletter. Please help me to welcome our staff to summer 2014. (e-mail: [email protected].)
My camp countdown is 46 days! WOW how time flies!
Get ready to challenge yourself and to push yourself this summer, all you have to do is KMBelieve!
PEACE. Tommy T

Go rock out to the summer of 2013!
Sarah HeneWe are ecstatic about having Sarah run our Arts and Crafts Program at KenWood Camp this summer. She is an all-around artist in every sense of the word. After a successful career in computer animation, she followed her artistic passions and love of children to become an Art Teacher in New York City Public Schools. For the past seven years, she has spent days dreaming, researching, creating, experimenting, imagining, and making her art room the best place to be in school! Teaching allows her to participate in the things about art she loves most that were missing from her professional career; painting, sculpting, drawing, getting messy and just making art! Camp is a special place for Sarah. It’s a laboratory where she gets to try new art projects, a community where she creates relationships with campers and friends alike, and a refuge where she can get out in nature and explore. She is excited to join KenWood Camp this summer to share her love of the arts with our campers. We know our campers will love her enthusiasm, creativity, excitement and friendliness.
Steve Mounser Steve will be a soccer specialist this summer following in his dad’s footsteps. Ian, his father, was a soccer counselor at KenMont and KenWood Camps back in 1997 and he remembers feeling very lucky to have been placed at our Camp. His memories are still vivid of the camp’s beautiful location and great facilities. It was an all-around enriching experience for him, one which he would recommend to his son years later. Steve has wanted to follow in his dads footsteps and spend a summer at camp because of how fondly his dad brags about it being one of the best experiences of his life. He started playing soccer at an early age and was lucky enough to spend a year and a half at the youth academy of York City, a professional football team in the English 4th division. He is currently in his 2nd year studying product design at Teesside University and can’t wait to get to KenMont Camp and teach soccer to all of you!
GETTING TO KNOW
TO FRONT PAGE
LIZA MAIZELLiza Maizel is 23 years old and grew up in New Milford, Connecticut where she graduated from New Milford High School. She received a dual degree in Psychology and Spanish with a minor in Math from the University of Rochester. While in college, Liza excelled at Lacrosse as captain of her varsity team and is currently a Math and Spanish Teacher at The Marvelwood School in Kent – Right around the corner from camp! She also coaches soccer, basketball and softball at the school and continues her love for lacrosse coaching the New Milford Youth Lacrosse Program. This will be her fourth year at KenWood Camp where she started as the head of lacrosse back in 2011. In 2012 she ran the lacrosse and volleyball program on girls’ side and in 2013 she took a major leadership role as Girls’ Head Counselor’s assistant. This year she is back and excited to be one of our KenWood Division Leaders.
JD KUBAKIJD was born and raised, and is a through and through, Ohioan. He graduated from Youngstown State University in 2013 with a degree in Middle School Education. As a child, JD attended a number of baseball and basketball camps, but his first sleep away camp was KenMont as a counselor in 2011. He is super excited to return to camp as a Division Leader and see so many familiar faces and also new ones. His favorite camp activity is baseball so get a ball and a glove and he will have a catch anytime! His top KenMont memory was being Color War General of the Blue Romans last year. As a Division Leader, he wants this summer’s campers to take full advantage of everything KenMont has to offer.
GETTING TO KNOW
WHAT’S NEW AT KMKWIn March, Tom and Scott attended the American Camp Association’s Tri-State Camp Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey and we found this product in the Conference Exhibit Hall. We are so excited to add this activity to our waterfront this coming summer. We can’t wait for our campers to keep rolling, rolling, rolling!
We also added on to our popular skateboard program – Along with Skateboards, Mountain Boards and Digglers we now have the brand new Zippy Flyers! These unique boards create a fun and simple way to enjoy skateboarding just like when skateboarding got started back in 70’s, when everyone rode a plastic skateboard with the newly invented urethane wheels. Skate and Create!
