STEWARDSHIP MIRACLES “And Jesus said to him, ‘Go your way; your faith has made

you well.’ And immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.”

(Mark 10:52) Faith is believing in something even though you may not be able to see it. Many people think that miracles don’t happen anymore. But, if you live in Stewardship and focus on the positive, not the negative, focus on your blessings instead of your hardships, miracles will seem common. Collection Total – October 18th: $12,129.00

Mission Sunday $1,396.00

Thank you for your generosity!

SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEK: CODE BLUE

A Family Perspective When Jesus asked the blind man “What do you want from me?” he asked for sight. If Jesus asked you the same question, what would you say? Okay, that is your prayer.

Page 6 October 25th, 2015 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time From the Pastor’s Desk…. OPERATION CODE BLUE… SHELTERING THE HOMELESS I am proud to announce that the Parish of the Holy Cross will once again participate in Bridgeton’s Code Blue program this winter by hosting a “warming center” for the homeless on cold nights in the basement of St. Teresa’s Church. I thank Ed Galetka and Bill Whelen for agreeing to again coordinate our Holy Cross Code Blue Team. If you volunteered last year you know that it was a rewarding experience. I cannot think of a better way to begin the upcoming Year of Mercy then by volunteering for Code Blue and feeding the hungry and providing shelter to the homeless. I can still see the smiles and hear the words of appreciation from our guests who stayed with us last winter. A “Code Blue” is triggered when temperatures are 25 degrees or below with no precipitation or 32 degrees or below with precipitation. At this time, Holy Cross will be on Code Blue duty for 3 weeks and our first on-call duty is the week of Thanksgiving. We need volunteers. A Code Blue evening begins at 6:00 PM, when a light dinner is served and ends approximately at 7:00 AM the next morning. Three (3) volunteers work in shifts to staff the parish warming center. The first shift is from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the second shift is from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM, and the third shift is from 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM on nights a Code Blue is in effect. The city suggests at least two (2) men and one (1) woman work each shift. Cots and blankets and pillows are provided. To help subsidize the effort, area churches were asked to take up a Code Blue Collection and I agreed to do that this weekend. Our Code Blue effort is a response to the Gospel: “When I was hungry you fed me, thirsty you gave me to drink…a stranger and you welcomed me.” (Mt. 25). I have no doubt that Pope Francis would be proud of our parish as we welcome the stranger and feed the hungry. If you are interested in volunteering this year please contact Bill Whelen at [email protected] or 856-297-3963. A planning meeting for this year’s volunteers will be announced soon. Thank you again for living the Corporal Works of Mercy here in Bridgeton. God Bless you and your families, Fr. Vince

Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia, P. Vicente

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.

In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks

on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
