Imaging modalities
1. Simple radiology 2. Intravenous urography 3. Retrograde pyelography 4. Antegrade pyelography 5. Renal angiography 6. Cystography, cystourethrography and dynamic
bladder studies 7. Urethrography 9. Ultrasound 10. Computed tomography 11. Isotope imaging and renography 12. MRI.
Normal
Normal PUT
Normal IVU
Full bladder and post-voiding
Male urethrography
Congenital
IVP splaying and smooth stretching of the middle and lower calyx of the LT kidney>>>benign mass lesion(cyst) CT shows simple cortical renal cyst
Simple renal cyst
IVP shows bilateral splaying and smooth stretching of calyces >>>benign mass lesion(multiple cysts) CT shows bilateral multiple variable size renal cysts replacing renal parenchyma
polycystic kidney
IVP showing duplicated RT pelvi-calyceal system with single RT ureter ….incomplete duplication .
IVP showing complete duplication of the RT pelvicalyceal system with double RT ureter showing two UB openings, and incomplete duplication on the LT side
Rt.ectopic kidney
IVP : Rt renal pelvi-calyceal system is seen lower in position with normal excretory function>>>Ectopic RT kidney
IVP : Lt renal pelvi-calyceal system is seen crossed to the contra lateral side with normal excretory phase>>>Crossed ectopia of the LT kidney
Tissue Bridge Across Midline Causes Abnormal Orientation of Renal Axis….horseshoe kidney
IVP showing moderate hydronephrotic changes with arrest of the contrast media at the pelvi-ureteric junction denoting PUJ obstruction.
Stones & obstructive
Plain KUB showing radio-opaque stone in soft tissue shadow of the LT kidney
Plain KUB showing dense radio-opaque stone in the RT pelvicalyceal system……..stag horn stone.
Another dense stone seen in the soft tissue shadow of the LT kidney
Plain KUB showing dense radio-opaque stone in the RT pelvicalyceal system……..stag horn stone.
Another dense stone seen in the soft tissue shadow of the LT kidney
plain KUB showing two radio-opaque stones in the region of the upper part of the LT ureter opposite to transverse process of L3.
Plain KUB showing dense radio-opaque shadow seen in the LT side of the pelvis suggesting LT distal ureter( vesicoureteric junction) stone
Plain pelvic film showing multiple radio-opaque stones seen in the soft tissue of the urinary bladder
IVP showing marked LT side hydronephrosis with dilated LT ureter down to its distal end suggesting distal ureteric stricture/ stone
IVP showing bilateral hydronephrosis and hydroureter . With irregular trabiculated UB wall denoting bladder outlet obstruction
IVP full bladder film showing smooth regular semicircular filling defect of the UB base(elevated UB base) BPH.
Urethral stricture
Ascending urethrocystogram showing short segment stricture in the posterior urethera with proximal minimal dilatation
Tumors
IVP splaying and destruction of the calyces on the RT side >>>RT malignant mass lesion CT shows abnormal soft tissue lesion replacing RT renal parenchyma with central degeneration ….RCC
IVP showing bilateral hydronephrotic changes with dilated both ureters.
Irregular filling defect involving the RT lateral bladder wall and bladder base suggesting urinary bladder carcinoma
