expressions are relaxed perhaps confused as they appear to be concentrating on

bright blue and the costumes worn are all brightly coloured, using some

colours which clash. The girls are posing in their seats and high key

lighting is used in order to highlight their youth. This picture is

stereotypical of a girl group as the girls are all posing and looking directly

at the camera and not smiling.

white close up shot. She is looking just past the camera and her

expression is relatively serious. She looks like she is wearing a towel

and her hair is voluminous and curly. She appears to be wearing a lot

of makeup and the image is accentuating her appearance. This image

is stereotypical of Katy Perry’s genre as it is posed and image

conscious.

against a white background and is black and white. He has his head tilted with

his eyes squinted which makes the image appear more natural and less posed.

This breaks the stereotype of a pop star’s photo-shoot which would

stereotypically be a posed photograph. He is wearing a black tuxedo with a

black dickey bow which makes his general appearance more formal and

sophisticated, perhaps suggesting he has developed from his previous image as

a young popstar.

This image is of rapper Kanye West. The close up shot is shot against a black

background and is taken in black and white. Kanye appears to be putting his

jacket on and is holding it at his chest. The lighting is low-key which changes

the mood of the image to more dark and serious. He is looking directly at

the camera with a serious expression, which is stereotypical of the rap

genre. However his costume breaks the stereotype of his genre as despite

the fact that he is wearing a hoodie it is covered in glitter which suggests

that he is fashion conscious.

Her stance in conjunction with her short

hair gives the image an androgynous look.

She is also wearing a headband and gold

hoop earring which are stereotypical of

her genre.

to emphasise her youthful and feminine

image. She appears to be jumping in the air;

looking directly at the camera and holding

on to the end of her hair which makes her

look young and energetic. She is wearing

brightly coloured clothing that clashes

fashionably such as a bright pink sparkly top

and a bright yellow skirt. Her hair is long

and curly and appears to be bouncing in the

air. This image is stereotypical of a pop

singer as it is youthful and highlights her

age and gender, and the theme of the

image is playful and colourful.

expressionless adding to the simplicity of

the image. The main focus of the

different colours of the glitter. She is

wearing brightly coloured makeup which

fits the colour scheme and her whole head

This image of American rapper Jay-Z uses

a mid-shot and high-key lighting which

breaks the stereotype of the usual image

of a rapper. Another aspect of the image

which breaks the stereotype of rap is the

fact that Jay-Z is wearing a formal black

suit rather than typical R&B rapper style.

He is also smiling and appears warm and

friendly, another opposition to the usual

stereotype that rappers are moody and

intimidating. The image is taken against

a white background and Jay Z is posing

naturally and looking directly at the

camera.
