TASK ENVIRONMENT

Task Environment of an organization is the environment which directly affects

the organization from attaining business goals.

In brief, Task Environment is the set of conditions originating from suppliers,

distributors, customers, stock markets and competitors which directly affects

the organization from achieving its goals

The Task Environment is briefly defined by porter’s five forces and describe

all the factors of task environment

Page 11: Im sciences analysis

PORTER’S FIVE

FORCES

Porter’s forces was designed to assist in analyzing the forces of the

task environment that drive competition in an organization

These five elements shows us attractiveness of entering the

organization as well as the weak points that need defending/attack.

The institutional advantage concept is that non profit organization

typically lack real, direct competitors.” Even so, managers of

nonprofits look externally to find “comparators” both in the public

sector and in the nonprofit sector when they devise their strategies.

Here the focus seems to be on operational effectiveness in the IMS

organization.

Page 12: Im sciences analysis

INTENSITY OF RIVALRY

Rivalry occurs because one or more competitors either feels the pressure or

sees the opportunity to improve its position.

Rivalry among existing competitors takes many forms like advertising

campaigns, and service improvements, changes to the distribution or other

means.

IMS follows the differentiation strategy and shows performance in everything

and compete with competitors and gives tough time to them.

Page 13: Im sciences analysis

THREAT OF NEW ENTRANTS

Porter argues that new entrants “bring new capacity” and “often substantial

resources.”

For nonprofit or institutional organizations like imsciences have threat of new

entrants like many business school are running in Pakistan like Lahore

institute of management sciences, Lahore school of Economics etc. which are

growing very well

IMS should keep eye on its competitors and apply differentiation strategy to

show performance and increase its efficiency.

Page 14: Im sciences analysis

Threat of Substitutes

According to Porter, “all firms in an industry are competing, in a broad sense,

with industries and consumers producing substitute products or services.”

He argues that, “identifying substitute products is a matter of searching for

other products or services that can perform the same function to

differentiate from its substitutes”

IMS has facing a lot of challenges because of its substitutes like iqra, szabist,

NCBA&E etc. because they are providing same services etc.

IMS applying different such a strategies which gives him strength to compete

along its substitutes.

Page 15: Im sciences analysis

POWER OF BUYER

In IMS buyer are those who acquires the organization services and resources

which are almost their students.

As IMS follows differentiation strategy and create such a environment in

which customers have low bargaining power and they only compromise on

quality of education which they perform very well.

Similarly IMS have very low student fees as compared to its competitors and

gives a quality education through which it influence the environment. This

strategy is an opportunity for IMS.

Page 16: Im sciences analysis

POWER OF SUPPLIERS

IMS secures the reliable inputs resources and often refers to have many

similar suppliers to decrease the bargaining power of suppliers

Institutions of education affiliated with organizations supply professionally

trained leaders and resources for continuing education.

Colleagues in professional associations related to leadership and service

influence each other by exposing each other to new methods for strategic

planning

IMS have a good relation with its suppliers of each supplies to encourage them

and as a result it influence the efficiency of organization.
