PROJECT Live Trace [1] Live Trace Purpose Students will utilize Photoshop to crop and image and the Live Trace feature in Illustrator CS to covert a JPG image to eight different vector based images. Assignment CROPPING IMAGE Students need to copy an image from the internet and paste it into Photoshop. A. Select the crop tool in the toolbox. B. In the Toolbar across the top of the screen set the height and width to 2” x 2” at 200 resolution. C. Select an area of the image to retain (just the same as making a normal selection). D. When you release the mouse button, the area to be retained is highlighted. This is what the new im- age will look like. E. You can move or transform the crop area by dragging the selection or the selection handles. F. Hit your Enter key or double click to perform the crop. Drag the cropped image into a illustrator document. BOARDER FOR IMAGES / LAYOUT (Place in own layer) Create a Square 4.125” x 8.375”. Select Object, Path, Split into grid. Fill in Window Rows:4 Columns: 2 Height 2 Gutter: .125” Total: 8.38 and 4.13” (Center on screen in transform widow. X:4.25 in Y:5.5 in) IMAGES (Place in own layer) The image needs to be replicated eight times and arranged in two columns of four. The images need to be aligned horizontally and vertically on the page and arranged with an 1/8 inch gutter between them. Use the presentation page as a visual example. COLOR MANIPULATION Each of the eight images need to exhibit a differ- ent preset. The greater variety the better. Be as ex- perimental as you can. Lock the images when not ad- justing. Using the white arrow select a single color in one of the vector based drawings. Select the SELECT menu at the top of the program window and scroll down to SAME, and over to FILL COLOR. Using the Color Palette, Color Picker, or Swatches, select a new color to replace the selected color with the new color that has either been created or chosen. Utilizing some of the color theory books in the classroom will aid in the color selection process.
