سورة القلمThe Pen

12.4.19 1440 شعبان 7

Only Allah knows your character. Sometimes when you don’t follow the desires of people, while following the commands, they accuse you of having bad manners. So don’t go according to the opinion of people, Allah is the Judge.

The pattern for ayaat 46 and 47 goes back to the debate formation, Allah asks questions to make them think and find the truth.

It is not the fault of the Messenger of Allah صلى هللا علیھ وسلم that they chose the wrong path. They have no excuse for their wrong doing. This gives the Messenger of Allah صلى هللا علیھ وسلم confidence. He is charged with just reminding them.

What is the reason for their fleeing from the truth? Did the Messenger of Allah صلى هللا علیھ وسلم ask them for some payment?

No. The Messenger of Allah صلى هللا did his da’wah only for the علیھ وسلمbenefit of the people.

The payment for those doing da’wah is to expect reward only from Allah. They must have no expectations from the people. This will keep their da’wah pure.

This is why the Messenger of Allah didn’t accept anything صلى هللا علیھ وسلم

from the people. He even paid for the mount which he borrowed from Abu Bakr As-Siddiq رضي هللا عنھ for a battle.

The word مغرم refers to a dent which must be returned, so it is a burden, heavy on the person. If someone already has loans, which he has to pay, and on top of that, he has to pay for the da’wah also, he will flee from it. But the Messenger of Allah صلى هللا علیھ وسلم never asked for anything from the people, so this cannot have been a reason for their aversion.

They are so confident in their falsehood, it is as if they know the unseen, which obviously they don’t. It is as if they are sure they are on the right path. But only the ones who follow the rules of Allah are on the right path. The believers believe in the unseen which Allah informs them of. The ones who claim to know the unseen, besides what Allah reveals, are lying.

Their confidence in their falsehood is such that they seem to be writing the unseen. Writing makes the facts stronger. It is visual knowledge. So did they write the unseen, that they will go to Jannah?

This shows their is no reason for them to flee from the Messenger of Allah صلى هللا علیھ وسلم and the truth. They don’t have to pay him, nor do they know the unseen. This also clears the Messenger of Allah صلى هللا علیھ وسلم from any doubts which may come to mind. This is how they are, you just have to be patient with their condition.

Be patient to bear their evil, and continue on your path. Sabr is the minimum require- ment for the people of Jannah. Impatience will demotivate you.

Why should you be patient? Because the judgement

of Allah is reforming you, taking you to the best of character. You don’t know how many doors may open for you with

your patience. It is nurturing for something greater, a victory.

You are on duty, you must continue on the path of da’wah. You must bear their behaviour; this is the universal decree. You must continue with the da’wah; this is the legislative decree. If you are patient, you will be upgraded and elevated. Don’t judge the people, but if you must judge, do it according to the Qura’an and the Sunnah.

Allah gives an example so that you may understand. Don’t behave like Younus علیھ السالم, when he was impatient in da’wah. When his people persisted in their disbelief and evil behaviour, he was fed up with them, and left them without waiting for the permission of Allah. Sabr brings vastness and impatience places you in the belly of a whale, so tight and restricted. However difficult the people are, it is better to be with them than inside a whale. Younus علیھ السالم ended up alone and restricted, in a worse condition. The ‘belly of the whale’ can be different situations in life.

Allah doesn’t go into the whole story here. This brief reminder is enough. The mistake of Younus علیھ is not السالمmentioned here, nor his impatience, but his beautiful

du’a is, with which he called out to Allah. He shouted it out, from the belly of the whale, in the middle of the ocean, where no one but Allah knew he was. The angels heard him, and searched for him, but couldn’t find him. This shows his belief. He made the best dhikr in the middle of the ocean, where none of the humans could hear him, renewing his tawheed, which is the best state.

The stomach of the whale was closed upon him, he was tightly squeezed inside. Being patient is better than being so intensely restricted.

فاصبر لحكم ربك وال تكن كصاحب الحوت إذ نادى وهو

مكظوم Then be patient for the

decision of your Lord, [O Muhammad], and be not like the companion of the fish when he called out while he was distressed

68:48

ابرون أجرهم إنما يوفى الصبغير حساب

Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without

account سورة الزمر

The Messenger of Allah صلى : said اهلل عليه وسلم

with patience, relief with affliction, and hardship with

ease. رواه الترمذي ، األربعون النووية ،

when he went off in anger and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him. And he called out within the darknesses : There is

His du’a brought him out of the inside of the whale. This exit was a blessing from Allah. It is nurturing when something happens in the nick of time.

There must have been some circumstances which happened to the whale which made it regurgitate Younus علیھ السالم.

The blessings are like wild horses, they have to be harnessed with gratitude. With gratitude, Allah increases them. Hadn’t it been for the blessings of Allah, he -would have been cast, dispraised, on an empty and barren shore. But this did not happen. Allah caused a pumpkin tree to grow over him, which shaded him from the heat of the sun, while he recuperated. This tree was the best for this situation, because of its medicinal qualities.

Younus علیھ السالم was praised for his du’a. Sometimes a calamity comes to elevate the person. Make du’a and you will exit the calamity.

Allah is the One who chooses. Allah nurtured

him to be better than before. He was purified from all aspects, his words, deeds and intentions

were all reformed.

After all this nurturing, the Messenger of Allah صلى هللا علیھ وسلم was the most patient, no one can reach his level of patience. This is the best of characters.

The disbelievers will never desist their evil actions. They will always have another trick up their sleeves.

They were close to making the Messenger of Allah صلى

slip with their eyes, but they couldn’t succeed. Their eyes show هللا علیھ وسلمtheir evil hearts. They really wanted to harm the Messenger of Allah صلى هللا

,علیھ وسلمbecause they couldn’t bear to listen to the Qura’an. So they showed their enmity with their eyes.

They also tried to harm him verbally, by maligning him, because they had no recourse, but their evil words had no effect on the Messenger of Allah صلى هللا علیھ وسلم any more. He was not afraid of them, and he was not grieved by their mockery. People cannot

harm you when you obey the commands of Allah.

The Qura’an is a reminder for all the worlds, for all the times. It it universal. Surah Al-Qalam is also a reminder, which we need to heed. We need

به لوال أن تداركه نعمة من رلنبذ بالعراء وهو مذموم

If not that a favor from his Lord overtook him, he

would have been thrown onto the naked shore while

he was censured 68:49

The Messenger of Allah صلى هللا علیھ وسلم said : ليس أحد أو ليس شيء أصبر على أذى سمعه من اهلل إنهم ليدعون له ولدا وإنه ليعافيهم ويرزقهم

yet He gives them health and provision. بر على األذى، صحیح البخاري، كتاب األدب باب الص
