The Houston Chapter is changing registration systems effective with the November luncheon. The new registration system is called etouches. The IIA is in the process of rolling out the etouches registration system across the chapters. You will see the etouches system being used for Houston IIA events, IIA regional events, and IIA national events.

The registration system will work very similar to what we have used in the past. You will still have to identify yourself with your e-mail address, select your meal choice, and pay. You will continue to be able to register as a group.

Look for a registration e-mail from the new system around Monday, October 12. If you have problems with the new registration system, contact Wilson Van Tine (VP-Administration) at 832-765-1812 or [email protected].

Woodlands Networking Event

The feedback from both the speaker and participants was extremely positive with many of the participants staying and after to enjoy the camaraderie amongst fellow auditors. As part of the Houston Chapter’s mission, the Board and Officer team strives to serve and connect our members through membership activities and professional development. We will continue to look for more opportunities to have these types of events in various locations throughout the year!

The Houston Chapter hosted a 2nd Woodlands networking event which was once again hosted by Flemings Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar. Dave Guerra, author of multiple books on Leadership and Superperformance, presented on How Superperformance is Driven by Servant Leadership. The speaker and members enjoyed a cocktail hour filled with an assortment of appetizers and adult beverages.

February 2013 AUDIT WIRE

A Month Full of Activities! The first month of this semester, September, was a month full of activities for Internal Audit Student Association (IASA) members. IASA officers are very happy to offer professional meetings, community service, and other events in order to help students network with professionals, develop leadership and teamwork skills, and give back to the community. IASA is successful in inspiring students’ interests in internal audit. Many students have expressed that they would seek certification during the semester. September 1-3 – Rush Week: Many students stopped by our registration table to ask for information. We saw many familiar faces as well as new students. IASA now has over 130 students registered as members. September 8 – Orientation: IASA members welcomed Lisa Berry (Senior Auditor at University of Houston, CIA, CFE, and IIA Member) and Rick Hamel (IT Audit Manager at Calpine, CISA, CIA, and PMP) as our guest speakers. We had the opportunity to explore the internal audit career path, get introduced to certifications, and learn about resources that can help us achieve our goals, such as becoming student members of the IIA. September 12 – Community Service at the Houston Food Bank: IASA members were among hundreds of University of Houston Coogs helping to provide thousands of meals at the Annual 9/11 National Day of Service BCAA Volunteering Event. September 15 – Meet an Internal Auditor event with Calpine & Halliburton: Our guest speakers were Jay Qatato (Internal Audit Director at Calpine, CIA, CCSA, CIDA, and CFE), Jeff Schmieley (Audit Manager at Halliburton, CPA, and UH alumni) and other representatives from these two companies. Students had the chance to ask many questions to understand the career paths, cultures of the companies, as well as hiring positions. We hope that Calpine and Halliburton would be able to find the best fits from our organization. September 18-20 – IIA’s 9th Annual IAEP Leadership and Networking Retreat in Orlando: Eight students were selected to represent the UH at this conference. Together with 75 other students from 22 universities around the world, we had the chance to work in teams, participate in the case competition, and network with internal audit educators and professionals from around the world. IASA students learned a lot from the trip. We will definitely apply what we have learned to make a strong contribution to our current and future companies. September 22 – Meet an Internal Auditor event with Chevron & Aventine Hill: Representatives of the two companies were Jamie DuBray (Portfolio Manager at Chevron and Houston IIA VP of Academic Relations) and Ron Stefani (Partner at Aventine Hill). Students received advice on how to be successful and were offered to apply for the accounting student volunteer positions in the Houston IIA. UH students are proud of being able to volunteer to help the IIA Houston achieve its goals. IASA would like to say thank you to all of the organizations, companies, professionals, and students that helped make September a very productive month!

Chapter Achievement Points (CAP)! What’s Your Points?!

One of the ways we gauge our success as a Chapter is through the Chapter Achievement Program (CAP). CAP points are earned for our accomplishments in three areas: • Service to Members • Service to the Profession • Chapter Administration

The Houston Chapter has achieved Platinum status for the past eight years by reaching the IIA’s established point goals! As of August 31, 2015, we have earned 323.71 CAP points. The Chapter earns points in a variety of ways. For example, offering speaker events like the monthly luncheons and The Woodlands Networking Event, assisting universities and students to promote the profession, and completing administrative activities for the Chapter. There are also many ways for our members to earn points. To name a few you could, • Speak about the profession or internal audit related topics to others outside of

your company • Submit exam questions for the CIA exam • Participate in an IIA-sponsored Quality Review • Participate in IIA research projects • Teach in Junior Achievement • Submit an article to the Internal Auditor (extra points for getting published!) Click here for a complete listing. To everyone who submitted, thank you for providing CAP points for our Chapter and giving back to the profession! See listing on the following page. If you perform any of the applicable service to profession activities during our new chapter year (June 1, 2015 – May 31, 2016), we would love to hear from you. Please submit your activities to [email protected]. For more information, see the CAP section of our website. Thanks for your help! Rumy Jaleel-Khan Former President and CAP Administrator
